A Little Saddened...

    1. I'm fearful that a BJD head that I've ordered and is due to arrive in the next month (if I choose to receive it after all) may not be on topic to share on DoA for various reasons...which is a bit of a disappointment.

      I was planning to do more photo-stories here once I had it hybridized on a 49cm body and had a few other things gathered. But that might not be possible now. :(

    2. I can sympathize, I nearly bought a doll head but learned the company was banned from DoA fairly recently, so I was glad I was able to dodge that bullet.

      However I'd say if you were really in love with the doll head you should get it anyway, as long as it's not a recast or something like that. In the end of the day it's your doll/collection and you should do what makes you happy.

    3. I appreciate your kind words and understanding immensely; thank you.

      It's definitely not a recast, thankfully! It's a custom design based on a character whose aesthetics I like.
      I guess the disappointment is particularly heavy for me because I wanted something custom that was indistinguishable from the other resin dolls I have without having to pay $1000 for a one-off from a big company.
      If all the indie artists with affordable pricing 3D print with resin that isn't eligible for inclusion here, that...limits where I can share them, unfortunately. I'm not the most active in the hobby or on other sites associated with it.

    4. you’re in brigadoon, home of the OT dolls and sculpts! just from a quick scroll it looks like there’s more than a few threads about OT dolls in this particular forum. I think as long as it isn’t from a banned artist or company it’d qualify in the off topic doll threads, wouldn’t it?

    5. there are plenty of other spaces you CAN share. Instagram has a very active bjd community for example. Honestly I don't share a lot here because I find you just don't get any engagement when you do. My photos go largely ignored unless they're reference pics (like body comparisons) and I find that kinda depressing so I just gave up on trying to engage others here. Seems they don't care so... *shrug*
      meanwhile on tumblr or instagram at least I feel like people are sometimes acknowledging my posts.

      At the end of the day though, I collect bjds because I like them. I enjoy customising them, I like having them on my desk so I can look up at them. Engagement from community is nice and all, but it's not the primary reason why I buy what I buy.

      So yeah, it's a bummer, but ultimately, DOA isn't the greatest place to share images anyway I find. It's convoluted to post pics and a lot of the time results in broken image links anyway.

      and yeah, you can still post in brigadoon. Which if i'm honest, actually seems to have MORE engagement than the company specific threads on the main part of the site. What the heck?

    6. It most likely would! It's from an indie artist who seems not to have been involved with recasts or other nonsense, so it's probably a-okay for inclusion here.

I think part of that could be that unless there's a big sale or some popular new sculpt release/associated events, there's just not that much buzz or hype over most established BJD companies in my experience. Their social media and online presence seems to be pretty low-key, for one, and this is an even more low-key hobby for sure compared to some others online. Not that any of that's a bad thing. Just my own personal theory, though! :sweat

      I'm probably doomed to not much engagement with photos of this guy to begin with, even if he did end up on-topic by some miracle of fate. :lol: He's not only based on a middle-aged character, but said character is also very obscure. Definitely not a popular bishounen archetype, lol.
