Hello, I am new to this forum and to the dollmaking, so any advice and critique is very welcome and aprecciated. My first try to build a doll is a tiny beast, a fantasy creature with fur on her chest and little paws, but I want her to be human enough to wear shoes and clothes. The material I have started to build her is paperclay and I am happy with how it worked out so far. Her head and body is very rough, she has no arms jet, so I still have a long way to go but here are some pictures: And my workspace ^^"
Thank you! Yes I just wanted to smooth everything out before cutting so the parts will sit flush when assamblet and not bend. I made some progress in the last days so I will be posting new pictures soon
Thanks I'm not really aiming for a special animal look, more like a female cute versoin of the beast from the fairytale. I am thinking of adding magnetic horns too, but for know I have all hands full with her body and face ^^" Here are my progress pics: The arms are just tubes jet und will be a little shorter in the end
Thank you! Arms and legs are now cut, defined the cheeks and eyes of the head a little and the little beast lady has been strung for the first time! Yaaay! xD can't believe I would come so far, so I'm a little proud of myself ^.^ But without pics it didn't happen She can already pose a little
You can be proud, she is cute ^^ I think the arms are a bit too long, fingers reach the half of the thigh when the arms are extended
Thank you Yes you're ringt, I had shorten the arms already, but they are still too long. I am thinking of adding a double joint in the arms and shorten them again. :/
Ah what a cutie Sometimes arms a tad longer than anatomically correct can be cute though! What makes them look even longer is also the wrist joint. Will you detail the chest hair? I can imagine it being puffy and fluffy like a cat's o3o Her face is cute but head wise seems like she cant tilt her head back and forth a lot?
Yeah, I am working on the wrists to sink a little more into the forearms Her chest fur will get more volume but I want to keep it stilized and simple like her face and body structure is. As for the head I am still working on the mobility but she is able to tilt her head quite decent at the moment. When I am done with her knee and arm joints I will post posing pics but for now I have run out of paperclay and have to see when I get to buy some :'(
tooo cute!!!!! Ugh, im always having problems with arm length after adding joints.. :/ its a pain in the butt. she is just the cutest though! I love how stylized and simple she is.
Thank you all! I apprecciate your interest in my work It really pushes me forward and keep on trying when I think I got stuck ^^ Worked on the chestfur fluffyness a little more aaaand joints! The leg joints are still a little clumsy, arms still too long xD Also worked a little on the butt^^ Here some pics of her head movement. I think I have too thick elastic for her, with thinner ones she could tilt her head even more Her body streched out And with wig
I love her. What a babe. I can picture her with cat-like ears! Can she stand unsupported? If shes wobbly her joints might be too small for the knee (It's a mistake i made a lot <_<" and it's what it seems from the pictures? I might be wrong so correct me) Also, you can make her sit better by extending the string gap a bit further into her thigh and rounding the leg area near her hip (allowing the legs to sink further so she can sit forward) If you want her to spin her legs to the side, you can add the L-shaped cut too, if you feel like experimenting. It's very useful to some dolls.
She will be getting furry elf ears :3 so a little bit cat-earish xD (if I get to make them as I imagine them xD) At the moment she can't stand due to the heel feet (I in the process of making the flat paws) and the knee joint thats indeed too small xD you have a good eye! Thanks for the suggetion for the sitting pose, I will try that! but I think I will keep the simple slit instead of an L shape, dont want to get too complicated for the first doll xD
High heel feet (paws) can be tricky to stand indeed. If you weren't planning on shoe-shopping for her, you could make them a flatter base with the front of the feet/paw to give her more balance. But making alternate paws is also goody. Yea the L-shape isn't for every doll. Glad to help tho Keep up the nice work sweets.
Thanks for all the advises :3 So I have been quiet for the past couple of weeks, but I haven't been lazy. After some molding and casting experiments, this is the least bubbly result of it to work further on it.
Aww miss chubbycheeks Did you cast using channels for the inside or did you drill them? You might need to make them a tad broader to string her properly?
I drilled them. And yes, I have to make them broarder I am new to drilling resin and was just to nervous to go for bigger ^^"
She's so cute! And the casting results are looking good. What products are you using for molding and casting?
Thank you I use silicon with medium softness for the molds and ivory colored resin. I dont know if the resin is high enough quality for a finished doll, but I am using it just for the next step of refining the sculpt
