The Aoi "Hat" Pattern This pattern is inspired from the hat Aoi (Ayabie) wore in the "Cubic' [L/R]ock" music video, and created by ME when I decided to knit something for Nobuo. I used a sport yarn (100% Acrylic) on US size 0 needles. My guage was 11 st = 1 inch The headband portion and the earflaps are made individually, which means you will have to have basic sewing skills. Not too hard . I designed this pattern to fit around a B&G Sapphira head (9 in, 10 in w/ his wig). However, it will definately fit a 8-9in ranged head. For the headband portion, I stopped knitting once it reached a 1.5in thickness. HEADBAND- ("on the round" pattern) Cast on 25 sts each onto four needles Row 1: k2, p2 across all needles All other rows: repeat row 1 *When you reach desired thickness, you can stop and BO in pattern. OR HEADBAND- (two needles pattern) Cast on 100 sts Row 1: k2, p2 across Row 2: k2, p2 across All other rows: repeat row 1 and 2 *When you reach desired thickness, BO in pattern. Sew the two ends together (it does not matter what kind of stitch you use, whatever you are comfortable with is fine). EARFLAPS- (make two ) Cast on 15 sts Row 1, 3 ,5, 7, 9: knit all across Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16: purl all across Row 11: k2tog, k11, ssk Row 13: k2tog, k7, ssk Row 15: k2tog, k5, ssk Row 17: BO using whichever method you prefer. *The earflaps are supposed to curl at the ends, as shown in the MV. I think it adds a cute flare to the hat, and it's only natural since they are in stockinette sts. Having knit all of the above, you can place the headband on your doll. I safety-pinned the earflaps where I wanted them to cover before sewing them on, which helped keep them in place. *For an added flare to your Aoi "Hat", you could add various pins and buttons . Due to the fact my camera has wandered off, I couldn't take a picture of the finished product... so instead, I re-created it as a PS picture . As soon as I can find a camera, I'll be sure to post pictures of the real thing . If anyone would be interested in more "Jrock Knitting Projects", please leave a comment telling me so! I would be so happy to make another one of these~ Feel free to post a picture of the finished project on your dollies when you are done, please !
What a cute pattern and hat, thanks ^-^ -subscribes- I've been working on my knitting ^-^ mayb once I get my alden I will make him a hat :'D
Ah, thank you Tobi! Good luck with saving for your Alden, and be sure to recheck the pattern. I made a few mistakes on the earflap part, because I was going off what I remembered. Having made another for my friend, I noticed that I made a mistake! So yeah... it has been corrected
Thanks ^-^ It shoudln't take too much longer, I calculated it with the shipping and its a little more than I thought, so it will take longer than expected, but I am determined! thanks ^-^ and I will (I'm no good with making patterns of any kind so bravo to you)
Really? I wish I could crochet... on most of the patterns I have around the house, they require some crochet skills to make cute borders . Also, for those who are interested, I am currently working on another project which might be posted later tonight. I'm currently trying to work out all the kinks and stuff. Keep an eye out !
oh that's a cute hat o3o; i'm so glad my friend gave me all of her knitting stuff! i wanna make one for myself and matching one for my doll 8]
I have the hardest time figuring that one out ^^;; it says Medium 4... it's never written anywhere fingering yarn and the only place I have in my area is Walmart ;.; The only smaller yarn I found was yarn to make baby stuff and it's all whites and pastels ;.;
faerieharp: I was thinking of knitting one for myself too, but sadly I am all out of the same colors . acexkeikai: Well, lace weight is size 1, fingering weight is typically size 2, sport weight is 3, and medium is 4 and so on. You can find the size chart on www.knitpicks.com, I think. They have great materials for great deals, so I definately recommend them. Yeah, when I go grocery shopping at Walmart I tend to look in the yarn department too, but rarely have luck finding anything less than a Sport weight yarn. Do you by chance have a Hobby Lobby or Michaels in your area?
no unfortunatly... I have fingering weight...but it's Pink... not suited for my boy. I saw some Fingering sport today at Walmart but at 6$ a skein I thought it might be expensive? The lightest are all baby yarn and for my boy I want black and white. :/ White they do have but not black. I am going to Quebec city and there is a yan store...they might have something I need? Thanks for the help
Okay I have tried using a chuckier wool and 2.5 mm needles and stopped my kniting at 10 inches. I used chunkier because his hat looks like the wool is rather big. I will aslo try to continue knitting the ear flaps with the headband. I'll post pictures if I get it right.
It mostly depends on what the yarn is made out of, and how much it weighs, that determines it's price. Fingering weight yarns can cost from $3.30-$5.50 for a 50gm ball/hank, and even more for a 100 gm ball/hank. At Walmart, I would check what the yarn was made of and then the weight before deciding if it was a deal or not. The store in Quebec should definately be able to help you, especially if the store's specializes in yarn, haha. So you're knitting the earflaps from the headband? I was going to try and figure out a way to do that on the round, but I'm working on another project and all my needles are in use, . When I get the time, I might update the pattern with one where the earflaps do not need to be sewn on.
I finished it... if the sun can actually come out today I'll take pictures. I also finished knitting my boy's first sweater. (also my first sweater ever)
8D I got the hat made for myself [so cute lol] so now I've got a general idea how to do it in small scale~ I just need to go and buy smaller needles and yarn 8]
Acexkeikai: Awww that's awesome :3. May I ask what kind of sweater it is? Agathafroo: Thank you~ Faerieharp: Cool! When you finish the hat for your dollies, could you take a picture? If you want, go ahead and join them in the picture with your own hat!
Hmm. I think I shall try crocheting this using the general shaping you've used (i.e. instead of k2tog, I shall try 'sc2tog'.) It's really adorable, IMO. ^-^ Like Junkets, I wish I could knit, too. Tried picking it up once, but died at the casting on and off part... It's too bad that lots of patterns on DoA are for knitters.
Acexkeikai: Oh really? I recently got done free-knitting a boatneck sweater for Nobu, but I'm not sure if I like how it fits across his waist. Did you free-knit the sweater or use a pattern? Bunnisteffi: That's completely fine! I wish I could crochet since most of the hats that I think are adorable are all crocheted (sp? xD). Like the animal hats... I wish I could make those TT.TT
Heyya! Thought I should give you an update on my crocheted version of the hat. I've done the head band part (pretty easy), and am working on the ear flaps now. The thing is, I'd sorta modified the hat's make-up by... giving in to my rabbity instincts changing the squarish ear flaps into lop bunny ears. >~< I've just done one side, working o the other tomorrow!
Bunnisteffi: That sounds so cute xD~ Oh! Newsflash, I recently learned to crochet... with knitting needles... how I managed this, I don't even know. I had a pattern that required crocheting the edges of a knitted piece (a lolita bow pattern), and I gave in and attempted it. Actually turned out pretty cool! If it's possible, when you are finished with the hat, could you post pictures? I'm still useless with no camera .
>_< I should totally be booted for posting this after so long, as well as dredging up such an old thread. My crocheted hat was done a while ago, but I didn't manage to take photos of my girl wearing it, since she doesn't have a furwig. So! While at a meet a couple of weeks ago, I managed to con convince a little MSD boy (Kagari's) to put it on, for a while... ... I'm going to try making one out of a heavier yarn the next time. Thanks for the inspiration!
Bunnisteffi: Which sized yarn did you end up using for the hat? Just curious. It looks like a fingering weight yarn from the picture, but I can't tell. It looks super cute on him though: LOVE IT
