UPDATE: The company could track down who the doll was meant for. I transferred the doll to the right person (The maker paid the shipping. It was not cheap.) Has anyone received a full doll you've never ordered? Today I received two parcels with my name and address. One was a small box of clothes and shoes that I ordered. The other one was....by the shape of the parcel, I could tell it is a full 1/3 doll!!! I opened to see if the doll was my fulfilled order from last time and the maker mistakingly shipped twice. No, the one in box was completely different sculpt. (Absolutely gorgeous tho!) I immediately contacted the maker and I am waiting for their reply at the moment. (Like, if they can send me return label if I'm to return her because I don't want to pay pricey shipping at my cost) Has anyone had the same experience??
Not including events that include a free doll, it's happened to me a couple of times! But a little different from your case. The first time, it was a tiny that came from a dealer. I had been a pretty steady customer for a couple of years, and I won't go into too much detail as they may want to keep it private, but there had been a tragedy in the community with another regular customer and a few of us came together to help her out. The dealer sent it as a little thank you/restoring faith in humanity gift. The other time, it was secondhand a few years ago, and from a very generous person who wanted to get rid of some dolls but not bother with selling. It was completely unexpected and I was completely floored, and while the dolls didn't really fit my crew, I ended up passing it forward and sent them to some close friends, who love them! Not sure what's going on with your doll, but I really hope you get to keep her!
What a surprise that must have been! They should definitely send you a return label if they want it returned - it wasn't your mistake. Oddly enough, just last week I received a box from a dealer from whom I recently ordered. My original order took quite a long time to arrive (I actually thought it had been lost) so I thought maybe they had sent an extra order out just in case. But no, it was a sculpt by the same artist and in the same size, but a different one from the one I'd ordered and in a different color! They were very kind and told me just to keep it, so I guess it will stay for now. If nothing else extra heads are useful for wig-making.
It hasn't happened to me but I remember someone once tested Elfdoll's check out system and the order, despite not being paid for, was fulfilled. Not sure what the outcome was ultimately but I remember wishing I tried it (I was very young at the time and didn't think about the impact on the artist haha)
To keep everyone updated, I sent the doll to the right owner. The maker could find the right person and they paid me shipping fee
I'm glad it worked out! At least you have seen the sculpt in person in case you're ever interested in ordering it (I sometimes wish there was a way to see bodies, etc. in person before finalizing a purchase. It would make hybrids so much easier!).
Yes! I only have human dolls but I am much interested in fantasy sculpt than before! The skin colour was particularly different from my NS Maskcat girls. Much pinker. This was first time seeing company faceup and it looked much lovelier and livelier to see in person!
At one of the NYC Dolpas, I put in for several one-offs. During the drawing, my name was called! I got a pretty one-off Luna, but my mom didn't think I put in my name for her. It turned out I didn't, they gave me the wrong doll by mistake. A few minutes later, they switched her out for the Shinku I actually won. I like pretending I actually won two dolls, even if I only owned the first one for a brief period.
That's exactly what I did - pretend like the doll chose me after even though the doll left for the owner already So your mom is in BJD hobby too? How lovely! I can only wish my daughters continue to like dolls when they grow up!
