50–65cm Dolls A Decade of Collecting - A Holy Grail Arrives! Volks Suiseiseki

It's hard to believe I got my first BJD over ten years ago. When I first got into these dolls, I was a freshman in high school. I had both a limited understanding of how the hobby worked and a limited budget. I always dreamed of owning a Volks doll, as I believed them to be the pinnacle of quality and sculpting. I browsed through many different photo threads on DoA of people's beautiful Volks dolls. The first time I saw a Suiseiseki/Souseiseki, I felt my breath catch in my throat. I thought she was the most beautiful, most cute, most darling doll I had ever seen.

I began to search for her and quickly became disheartened when I learned of her typical price tag. At the time, it was absolutely unfeasible for me to add her to my collection. Over the years I focused more on boy dolls, and then eventually became less involved in the hobby. I randomly decided to browse around and low and behold, this gal was for sale from a DoA member on another forum. She had severe yellowing and had been airbrushed to match her new SD13 body, so she was far from in perfect condition. But I didn't care. When I saw her, the feelings I had when I first started collecting came rushing back! I knew she had to be mine. Fortunately, I'm now married to a very understanding and supportive husband, and have a great job of my own. I was blessed enough to be able to bring her home, and opened her this Christmas morning!



What was less than fortunate was the way her box was treated during her journey to me. Her tracking had just stopped updating days ago, and then suddenly she was on my porch. When I initially saw the box, I thought I was going to be sick. It was completely crushed and completely soaked, despite it not having rained here in weeks! Fortunately, she was not in her original Rozen Maiden box, but a replacement box so it wasn't as tragic as it could have been.




I thought for sure she would have been damaged, but fortunately, she was very well protected!



Once I knew she was okay, she had to wait under the Christmas tree for a few extra days, until today came!
