This is a project I've wanted to do for years. And then, just recently, I stumbled onto a Rosette body for a really reasonable price, so I jumped at the opportunity! At the moment, I'm still working on my sketches and trying to work out what proportions work best for my design. I'd actually love some input for other artists as to which proportions look more balanced. So far, I'm at the stage of making cardboard mock-ups so I can see how my design fits with the real Rosette torso. I have two designs I like - one with a larger horse body, and one with a larger human body. Which do you think looks best? The main things I want to do with my centaur that neither Luts nor Soom have done with their mini-sized centaurs are: double-jointed fore legs, double-jointed hind legs (if at all possible), a centaur torso that replaces the hip piece instead of having it slot in (letting me avoid the 'bum gap' that both companies have had to engineer sculpted fur around). I'm also going for very exaggerated limbs, to complement the Rosette design. I'm hoping that by keeping things as slim as possible, I'll be able to make a very light centaur body that will be very easy to pose. If you have any advice or suggestions for me, I'd definitely appreciate them (particularly regarding my proportions dilemma, since I just keep changing my mind about which set I prefer!) (PS: Sorry mods if this isn't allowed here due to being a sculpted addition to a company doll. I checked the rules and didn't see anything that would rule this out as a sculpting project, so I hope it's okay to post )
Wow, pretty great plans!! I can easily understand why you're having troubles with the proportions, both look extremely good! Imho, I think the smaller horse body is a little bit more aesthetically pleasing proportion wise? Because the Rosette girl body is so dainty it kind of suits it better? At least that's my 2 cents I'm looking forward to seeing which you decide to go for! A centaur in this size, my favorite size!! XD
Yes, I think I've decided to go with the smaller horse body. It matches my original mock-ups much more closely. Even though I do still like the larger horse body, I think I was partly trying to convince myself to prefer it because I've already put quite a bit of work into it's cardboard mock-up But that's okay, I've adjusted my design down to match the smaller body, and I'll work on it this evening. Hopefully once I have the smaller body in 3D I'll fall in love with the proportions )
Keep the big horse mock up just in case you decide to add a male for your centaur lovely. Your idea is wonderful. I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together.
