A carrying case fit for a tiny~! [In Progress // Updated 07/31~!]

Jul 3, 2009

    1. Hey everyone~! The other day I was sitting around reading the "Great Finds for Dolls" thread and by the time I finished I had the uncontrollable urge to go to Micheal's and Claire's and fill Allura's room with adorable things. @.@

Sooo, yesterday my mom took me to Micheal's and what did we find? The cutest little case ever! It's shaped like a book, and although it doesn't have a handle the store we went to convientently stocked everything you needed to install your own handle right above the boxes.
I was so taken with the thing, that I decided Allura needed a new carrying case! Especially considering I've been toting her around in the shoddy little box she was shipping to me in!

I haven't gotten very far yet, but here are some pictures of the box and my plans~!

The beautiful fabric I bought for it~! The patterned fabric will line the inside, then I'll make detachable pillows with the plain fabric. ^__^

These two links lead to the plans and the design for the front of the book~!
I apologize for the awful quality--I had to do it to make them visible. @.@ I don't have a scanner, so I had to photograph them. T.T

      The plans~!
      The cover~!

And finally, this is my progress as of this very second~! The book is a very beautiful color. ^.^

I'll be updating more as I make more progress. :)

Updates as of July 31st, 2009~!
Well, I FINALLY got back to working on this! I promise I didn't forget. ^__^ I was dreading trying to transfer the design onto the case, but I finally got off my lazy tush and did it! Tomorrow we'll be installing handles!
(The pictures are bigger this time to show more detail)

This is how the design transferred! Pretty well, I'd say! I ended up tracing it onto a piece of tissue paper, then taping that down to the box and tracing over it with two coats of sharpie.

And half-painted! I have several photos of my 80 trail-and-error touchups, but I figured it would be easier to just post this photo then the final photo here. XD So keep in mind that I took a paint brush back and forth with this thing a good 7-8 times after this photo was finished. ^.~

And the finished design! It's still not as 100% flawless as I wish I could make it, but as I am not a robot and was not using a stencil, I figured it was time to throw in the towel for the night. XD
Tomorrow mom is going to help me install the lock and handle, and hopefully I'll get the most basic fabric layer down on the inside, so I'll update then! <3

    2. that is a great find!
      The designs looking very nice~
I can't wait to see the finished product~

    3. That is pretty neat! I wish I could find something that nice for an SD13 xD but those are big xD

    4. That is a good find and looks like it will fit your tiny great! I'll be following along to watch your progress. I love the cover design <3

    5. you got that at Michaels?? damn, i want! i wonder if i could cram a yo-sd into it...lol

the cover design is lovely, and i really like that paisley-flowery fabric 8D

    6. It's looking good! I'm working on the same thing, but I'm using foam on the inside instead of fabric :)

    7. @faerieharp -- XD I'm not sure! I know they had several much larger boxes that had handles, but I this was the only one that looked like a book. T.T The inside of the box is 16.5 cm by 11.5 cm, if that helps. ^___^ (I'm not sure how tall a typical Yo-SD is XP)
The really epic thing about the it was that it was only like a three dollar box. @.@ I think for the handle kit, the lock kit, and the box we paid less than $5.
Unfortuanately, I had no painting supplies, so I had to spend a fortune on Wal-Mart on them. >.<

@GreenBee -- That's awesome~! You should make sure to let me know how it turns out. ^__^ I thought about buying some foam for mine, but I was concerned the foam wouldn't be soft enough--I want her to sink into the fabric a little <3

And thank you very much to everyone else! ^__^ I just got batteries for my camera, so I should be able to take more pictures soon. I just finished painting the base colors the night before last. I spent last night making Allura a Teddy bear, so I didn't get to work. XD Hopefully I'll be able to get the design on tonight though~! <3

    8. 16.5 x 11.5 cm...
my incoming yo is about 25cm, so i think if i have him sitting sideways, he would fit, i think o3o

      *needs to go to Michaels*

    9. Hooray, I finally got back to working on this! Man, what a crazy month. XD

    10. I enjoyed how it looks like a book! What a great job on the painting. So totally fun! I wonder if you could make it into a doll dresser, with a puki inside.

      Puki: I'm got your jewles!

      ;)
