Aëleir, MSD doll + Manala almost finished

Dec 20, 2013

    1. (lots of pictures !)

      Hi !

It is time I shared the dolls I made, so here they are. (By the way, beware, there is mess in the background of some of the photos ^^')

Doll n°0.5 (I don't usually consider her my first one, she's rather some training)
      No name
She's got legs, but that's not really interesting lol

Doll n°1, made in fimo (around 15-20cm)
      Kayla
She stood quite well at first, but one of her feet's toes always broke so I made another one. It was slightly taller so it's not easy to make her stand now.
      Hello dog !
      Mmmh, comfy :)
      And some sport

Doll n°2, made in cernit (21cm)
      Suzann (with Kayla)
She stood well, but now one of her ankles is broken... I don't know if it is the cernit or if I baked it badly, but she's crumbling away T_T (I already repaired her head around the neck)

Doll n°3, made in super sculpey (would be 15 or 18cm with the head, I don't remember)
      Luna
The smallest I made, not finished, but I may remake her one day. She can't sit x) and even with double jointed knees she can only bend them at 90°.

      The three first together

      Doll n°4 (30cm)
No name either (to the left in the photo)
I switched to paperclay because the year switched to the end of the holidays... and I don't have an oven in my appartment.

      Doll n°5 (30cm)
Erry (middle left in the photo)
Dragon girl ! but in fact it's just a plain kid (androgenous) :b I wanted to finish her, but I had forgotten her blueprint.

      These two with floating heads

      Doll n°6 (around 40cm)
      Aëleir
The one I'm working on at the moment.

      Doll n°7
I'm working on her at the same time (while the other one's drying) but right now only a leg would be worth showing.

(Seeing the pictures reminded me that I have a base for a 60cm doll, but not much done lol)

More details on Aëleir now :
I discovered recently, while working on her, that I don't have to fear using my scalpel, and it is even really fun ! Tried it on the prototype foot because I didn't fear breaking it, then reworked the leg, I couldn't stand it anymore.
      With a better leg
And she can stand :) : 1 2 (without string lol, only a small knitting needle in the legs)
After these photos I worked a bit on the knee joint and the hip joint and began the other leg. I need to work on the head and the upper torso... a lot to do !

      See ya :arrr

    2. I really like the V-shape in her hip flexors :) Hope to see her progress!

    3. Thank you ^^

This week, I worked mostly on the second leg and around the hips
      Front
      Side
And sitting (sorry it's a bit blurry)

Still need a lot of work but I won't be able to work on her next week.
      See you later :arrr

    4. Looks like she's going to be nicely poseable - I always find that getting the movement and flow at the joints is the difficult bit, and it looks like you've got that sorted :D

    5. Hello, finally back ^^

Thanks :) I like leg shape, so I try to keep it the most possible

I haven't done much, but I worked a bit on the knee joint, so that it doesn't bend when stringed. Now I need to find a way to remove the bumps at the back, I have an idea but haven't tried yet.
      Leg 1
      Leg 2

I also finally cut the torso and began the joint.
      Torso

And I totally remade the face, keeping only the lips and the shape of the face.
      Face.

      The "full" doll

      See you later :arrr

    6. I like her body shape! I find it quite unique. Her face goes well with her body, too. I really like the personality you've sculpted into her, especially in her smile.

    7. Wow, it's been a looong time ! :dead

I had abandonned my MSD because I wasn't satisfied with the legs, but couldn't find what was wrong, and I didn't have the motivation to redo them...
I recently received some advice and got motivated to finish her again :))
Here she is, with one new leg. It's not finished, needs works mainly on the calf. I also redid her face. I had already pondered doing this, but coming back after some months showed me how wrong it was.

      Sitting
      Close-up
      Leg bent
      Front view
      Sitting, side view
Face, with and without flash (she almost seems to be smiling with the natural light, even though she's not supposed to lol)

In the meantime, I made a small semi-anthro goat BJD (a bit above 12,5cm) :)
      Front
      Side
      Back
      Sitting
Obviously, I haven't finished the eyes :p also working on global symmetry and sanding

See you :arrr thanks for watching

    8. I'm back after the holidays ^^

I've made some progress on my 25cm doll but I don't have recent enough pictures.

I added ears to my MSD and made an arm (it seems a bit too short)

And finally, I almost finished Manala, my tiny goat. She needs some blushing, eyes and maybe a wig.

    9. So... I haven't posted in ages ^^'
I had abandonned her because I could only see all the problems and I did not feel motivated enough to tackle it. But last week-end, I was searching for some sculpting to do, and I opened the box of the old projects. Suddenly, I wanted to finish her...
The main flaw is the legs, I decided to correct and improve them adding a thigh joint

Not much yet, I mainly worked on the thigh, still need to work on the knee joint and the calf... then, the other leg :b

      See you :arrr

    10. I love her body shape and legs! I'm glad you were able to get back on her :) can't wait to see more!

    11. Thank you ! Here are more pics ;)
I began her second leg to be able to do the hips soon. I also finally tried to add details to the body, and I discovered it was much fun ^^ Not perfect, but I'm happy with it right now (I haven't finished a part of the torso yet)

This is the unfinished side of the torso

      Thanks for watching :arrr

    12. She's so smooth, and I love how she can sit cross-legged. It looks very natural, and I'm impressed she can sit upright while doing it! Great work :)

    13. Great joining! I really like the shape of her eyes, too.

    14. Thank you :)

I have made a cast of her face in flumo ! :D It's got some flaws, and it's my first make-up but I'm quite happy of it :)

I don't have much time to work on her sadly, the other arm is still a formless cylinder... but I feel motivated to finish and cast the rest of her body as soon as I have the time ^^

      Thanks for watching :arrr

    15. Congratulations on progress!!!!!

I have a question regarding flumo. How thick do the walls have to be compared to the size of the doll in order for the flumo to be strong enough to stand up to stringing tension? Or should we always string flumo dolls loosely? I've been trying to figure it out forever!
