Here are some of my photos from the event. I found out I took a lot of them on my phone, which is another hoop to go through to get them linked to DOA. I couldn't even find where a photo thread should be, since I'm still finding my way around the new forum, here! Here's a bunch of photos that I've posted on some other boards: The theme this year was the Roaring '20's, so there were two big dioramas built: The Speakeasy with Long Bar, Alleyway Door with little viewer, and Stage and The Theater (Cinema), with Red Carpet and neon lights. Day One-- the dioramas were mostly for the costume contest. Here are 2 girls in outfits at the bar in the Speak-easy Absinthe Fairy-- Helping at the Speak-easy, this pair won a Director's Choice Award for the tailored costumes and hand-made wigs. A PI at the bar-- another flapper-- One of Bo Bergmann's girls (loved her Betty-Boop vibe!) On the nice Deco-style stage, a chanteuse-- Another fabulous entry, "Burlesque"-- A cutie not even in the contest. Some great flapper outfits, I think! Shot of the room, with vendors in the back. There was a place for panels to the side. Susan Lake did one on Hat-making. Bo Bergmann did one, of course. The guys did one on making the Dioramas. This outfit was just so cool! She said she was up sewing to 3am the night before. There was an orchestra/band and singer as a contest entry! TO BE CONTINUED---
Single entry, hand-beaded, one of the winners-- Another winner, also in a hand-beaded dress. Just reader for her close-up! On the Red Carpet in front of the Marquee-- Another winner: Everyone loved the idea of a Newsie. He's holding a San Diego paper with news of Prohibition-- The next day, I had some of my dolls in the dioramas. they are wearing DollHeart outfits, so I didn't think they should be in the contest (I'd won in the past, so I'm sort of retired!). My IOS guy is at the bar in tails. Saturday Night Banquet, some people dressed just for fun-- One of the Costume Contest prizes was a Batchix doll! -- with faceup and outfit and wig-- Here's the Cinema diorama, on Sunday-- The vertical sign lit up flashing the letters one at a time, like neon. One of Bo Bergemann's dolls--looks Red Carpet ready! My Volks Cyndy 2 in front of the theater-- TO BE CONTINUED---
My girls and a friend at the Speak-easy-- There was a guy there who would shoot TINTYPES of the dolls! He explained his whole process. So I HAD to have it done!!! I'm crap at posing, but he said he did glamor shots all the time and set things up! Here's my CP/Luts Miyu, waiting to be photographed! --and he set up my Volks Cyndy for a separate shot-- Here's the actual tintype being developed-- Sunday Afternoon, Closing Tea! The dioramas were auctioned off. Bo Bergemann bought them for her shop. Somehow she's going to ship them to Hawaii!!! I also had a Box Opening of my Ringdoll Norman at the con. I just handled my camera while others opened the box! I've had countless Box Openings on my own, so this was just a fun thing! The box arrived right when I was going to the con, and I was driving, so I could just throw the box in my car and go! I don't know how they traded off, but different people opened the box and unpacked it, then dressed him, and set his eyes! Then someone else went off to play with him a bit!!! Anyway--I had a fantastic time! Lots of cool stuff to see and buy and do. Theme for next year is "Steampunk"!!! San Diego is a lovely place to visit! It was sunny and almost too warm that weekend. Hotel was only $99 a night with free in-and-out parking... Thanks for looking! ============= Photos on imgur-- 2015-11-San Diego BJD Con- 20's Ringdoll Box Opening at the con-- 2015-11-Ringdoll Norman OPEN
Every time I see that bar, I still want it! I just received the tintype photo of my boys today. It looks fantastic! I love it.
Oh, hey, you wrote that you got your tintype and I went to check my mail, and I got mine, too!!! Fantastic souvenir of the con. I need to find some cool frames for them, now! Definitely frame-worthy! The guy said to contact him if I ever heard of any event that sounded good... I'm not hooked into the Steampunk cons, but if I do of hear of one, I'll try and remember. But, hey--he should definitely come back next year for the Steampunk theme! That should be super-cool!
