Iplehouse New YID (nYID) Discussion - VI

I have a slight preference for merging the threads, but I really don't mind. With the separate and slower-moving threads, questions or posts are visible on the last page for longer, but then... people don't respond to them as much so it is a bit of six or one and a half dozen of the other I think.

 

I know I generally lurk, but I only own the nYID dolls, with no interest in going larger. I rather prefer them to be maintained separately, honestly. I enjoy looking through this thread a lot, even though I don't post often. Everybody's dolls are lovely!

 

The hybrid thread seems to be the most active of the large Iplehouse doll threads. I think for many people it may be their go-to thread for chat and information. (Although sometimes it seems the waiting room is where all the action is.) Sometimes I can't even find the nYID thread because the activity lags and it falls to the second page. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the threads were joined, but I won't cry if things stay as they are. How's that for an I'm-sitting-on-the-fence response?

 

I've never participated in that "merged super thread" because the 'hybrids' part threw me off. I thought it was only for hybrid Iple dolls. But I see now it's 'and hybrids'. Still I'd have to get used to it. It would be nice to post my nYID boy in the same
thread with my SID man without people gettin in their feelings. I mean I don't care. As long as one doll in the post/picture is on topic, I post. That's how I roll. Rules are meant for interpretation.

I'd really prefer to see them merged -- keeping up with three separate discussion threads and two photo-spam threads for "large dolls with interchangeable parts from a single company" gets kind of ridiculous.

P.P.S. I don't know how many people get daily e-mail digests of the threads they're subscribed to, but I do -- which means five e-mails every day, if all of the threads have gotten bumped by even a single post. I love to keep up and stay abreast of the discussion, but that's . . . a bit silly.

 

Lol I already posted my opinion on the other two threads and completely agree with Ashbet that even the fact that this discussion about merging the threads is not in one place, is ridiculous ^^; I'd really prefer all the three threads merged.

All the three sizes are hybridizable (at least for girls) and even if someone didn't want anything bigger than nYID, you could have an EID/SID head on nYID body, when you technically could participate in all 3 threads and spam your images on all of them and the same people would see the same stuff 3 times...

I'm with safir and Ashbet on this one. It would be liberating to freely talk about all our Iple dolls on a singular thread. Although I only own SIDs and EIDs at the moment (which is why I'm more oft on the other threads), I plan to get nYIDs someday, and would feel less repetitive sharing photos or discussing things in just one thread.

I made his wig -- didn't wind up getting any good profile photos, but the side is braided close to his head, and then he has an 80's glam-rock ripply waterfall of hair on the other side, with a braid in front of each ear. Rather pleased with it, actually ^__^

Another good shot, Ashbet. I'd love to see a profile showing the braided side of the wig. I've paid good money for wigs that didn't look half as good.

 

Since the topic of merging threads has come up again:

DoA allows multiple discussion threads for companies. Some members prefer smaller threads with focused information on a narrow topic. Some people only want to hang out in one thread in the entire forum and want that thread to be everything. Some people want to spam up every available thread because they love to share and they love having more threads. All of these people are DoA members and a more relaxed approach to thread organization allows members to interact in the way they feel most comfortable. Hundreds of members read these threads, so please do not assume that they are all here for the same reasons.

Some people believe that all Iple heads are interchangeable, some people do not. Some people only care about pretty head shots, while others don't want to see hybrids. Some people want threads about clothing fit for a specific body type and don't want to wade through 800 posts to find that information. Every member is allowed to start a thread. If it is quantifiably different from an existing thread, it is allowed to remain separate. You may choose to make a thread more or less relevant by participating in it or not.

If you believe that the mega Iple thread that contains all sizes is the best place to be, then only post in that thread. If all of the myriad threads about Iple dolls is too much to keep up with, then pick the one you like best and don't cross post; unsubscribe from the others. If you have no interest in the other sizes and only want to talk about nYID, there's a thread for you too! If you don't care for nYID and only own the bigger sizes, you have a place to stay.

It's a hardcap wig, which may explain the difference -- I used alpaca fiber for this one (mohair would have worked, too -- I've made similar wigs with mohair), and since it was built onto his head specifically, it can have more of a custom fit.

I love big poofy mohair wigs (especially on my smaller dolls), but it's also nice to be able to control hair direction more realistically, especially for the big dolls. Most of my hardcap wigs were made by the immensely-talented Eclipse21, but since her schedule tends to be pretty booked, I sometimes make my own, if they aren't a super-fancy style. This was the most ambitious one so far, and I'm happy with how it turned out!

Ooh, Ashbet, you did a fantastic job. He gorgeous in general, but the wig you made looks wonderfully realistic. I also prefer more streamlined wigs on my larger dolls, that flow like human hair, or as close as I can find.

I think they carry Monique wigs but I still buy mine off the Monique website, they tend to be cheaper there and have a larger selection of colors.

I'm excited to see your Bliss in that dress! I want to get the long flowly white nightgown for Lacie but my wallet is screaming in fear and I just got a new puppy today who I have to train (he'll be a service dog like my other ten year old dog). So uh yeah no doll stuff for a long time lol

Hey, can anyone tell me how wide the hips are on an nYID girl? I know the circumference measurement, but I need to know the width. I need to know if they'll fit in a doll wheelchair I have, I'm trying to figure out what body I should get for a particular doll I'm planning.

Does anyone have a Bibiane head on the Nyid body? I'm really wanting to grab one whenever I can get the money saved and the custom doll system is up... It is between her and Stella, but if you don't have either, any SID/EID heads would be helpful!

 

Thanks! I thought it might be that wig, except it looks longer on Rune than it does on Iple's sale page. I've been having trouble finding good wigs for my nYID boys. Most 8/9 wigs appear to have too much hair. I guess NYID boys have slimmer heads than SIDs.


@Animethemed: She's not a Bibi or a Stella, but here is SID Grace on the nYID body. I like it so much I decided to make it permanent.

I sat one of my girls on a measuring tape. You need at least 5 inches for the doll. If your chair seat has an interior measurement of at least 6 inches, that will allow for both the doll and whatever clothing she is wearing, with a little room to spare.

 

Your Grace is lovely! She looks wonderful on the nYID body!

If it helps, Andy wears the same wig Rune does, but in sienna not saddle brown. Andy has a rounder face/head than most of nYID boys do, and he can actually fit on the SID man body without a bump on the back of the neck. He also wears a 7/8 silicone headcap under his wig to keep it from sliding. The wig fits him really well and doesn't look as long as Rune's is, but that's probably due to him having a wider face.

I wasn't quite sure how you wanted the measurement, so it's the width of space the doll takes up when sitting. When I measured around the hips (side seam to side seam) the measurement was the same. Give or take 1/4 inch for tape measure slippage against the resin.

And for anyone interested, I scanned some patterns for nYID boys, the sweatshirt/long sleeve shirt one, and Andy is wearing one of the results of that pattern in this picture. THe pattern also fits on SID girls. I'm linking a tutorial I made because my patterns alone are confusing as heck and kinda gross looking but as you can see they make pretty things

Can anyone tell me what you think of the posing for the body? I'm very hesitant to get such a large body and would love to hear all your reviews!

 

I only own the girl body, but I'm quite happy with most of her engineering. The mobility thigh joint is essential for stability in a lot of seated poses, so as much as the solid thighs are prettier I'm glad I ordered them. The ankle joint is still a total failure carried over from the larger dolls. It slips out of true at the slightest provocation, and there isn't a lot of internal material to allow for sueding. Still puzzling over the best way to modify it. My girl has the largest bust size which necessitates arching her back for better balance. She is otherwise very well behaved.

 

Thank you!! Also... I know some of the SID clothes fit the NYID body but..does anyone know if the ones not specifically labeled for them would work? I realize length will be off.

 

There have been a lot of pieces I've wanted to try - I much prefer the more mature styles that the bigger girls get - but I've only purchased thing that specifically state they fit nYID. Sadly much of the other fit advice doesn't help either because the bust sizes greatly influence the fit. Even after all this time I believe there is only one seamstress who designs for the glamour bust, and they aren't the sort of clothes I seek.

 

I have a nYID with a Large Bust, and a SID and a few SID clothes... was there anything in particular you wanted to try on the nYID?

 

What style are you looking for? The biggest challenge is those glorious hips, but now and then I find stretchy stuff that goes on. Do you sew? Every now and then I find patterns that can be redone, too. But I won't give you a lot of random names if you need something specific or want to buy off the shelf....

 

I've found that the EID Black Glitter Lingerie looks great on everyone

Unfortunately, my nYID is Medium-bust rather than Glamour, so I'm not sure how useful I can be. Happy to try stuff on her bottom half, if there's a particular garment you have in mind!

That's Audrey in an EID sized top from kawaiimon (dorset on ebay), and surprisingly, it's not horribly huge--the sleeves are too long and if she sneezes she is out of the top--but for shirts, most of the stuff I have here that fits an SID, fits NYIDs pretty well. This is not true of bottoms--the NYID is in a class by herself and you need serious stretch down there. Baby's got back.

Hi everyone!!! I have been directed to this thread to ask you all about the now discontinued sculpt of Lion. I made a trade today and ended up with his head. I don't know much about him since my friend received him as a trade item too. I can't even guess how old he is. I have no idea what to do with him, but I really like him. I'm just looking for any information/experience or suggestions any of you may have.

Also, that is good to know about the layaway plan. I've been eying one of the bigger boys for about a year now.

mollym Lion is a cutie! He's a bit smaller than the new Young Iplehouse guys, but he will fit nicely on most older 60 cm bodies so you should be able to find him something on the MP--he's probably a creamy white by now? And congratulations!
