Bobobie and Resinsoul Large Size Dolls Discussion - Part 10!!

Here is a picture of my 70cm ResinSoul Feng boy in white resin. He was my very first doll and he was also the lucky/unlucky first victim of my faceups. I really love Kyle, although he generally wears a long blond wig that makes him look very feminine according to my family.

I think one day I would like to have a ResinSoul Ling girl in pink or tan resin. She looks really pretty.

 

First of all, I love your username. There is a manga titled Angel Sanctuary and one of the main characters is a gorgeous angel named Lady Alexiel. I dunno if that was your idea when you chose it, but its great :P

Secondly, your Kyle is beautiful. I love his eyes. What kind are those?

And I think a Ling would compliment him well. I have one and I love the crap outta her. She's more beautiful in person than those darn company shots show her to be. Congrats on your first doll

 

Delurking briefly to say hi again and YAY first page of new thread I was looking for a group shot of all my RS/BBB guys but they are all horribly outdated. So, have Archer and Anya from a couple years ago, taken around this time. I love fall so much!

Glad to see Ling is getting more attention...she really is a great sculpt. Well at least Maria thinks so...but she's kinda biased.

so Havra said I should bring my little project over here to visit with all the other lovely Bobobie and Resinsoul boys and girls.
I got his new elastic in today and so I was able to temporarily restring him. I still have a lot of work to do but he's in a much better state than he was! No more sharpie, no more sad face.
He doesn't have a name yet, or a story so we'll just call him Weylin after his sculpt for now.

Reslie, I like those eyes a lot. They have a nice depth to them and I like the dark green wig as well. All the colors compliment each other nicely.

Yay new thread and gorgeous dollies!

I'm still in my "argh what do I do" over Yun/Ai/Lian.
We had a little mini doll-con today, trying to get one started in Vancouver - can't let Toronto have all the fun! Anyway, one of the hosts did a panel about sculpting your own BJD and she pointed out facial proportions, aaaand things like the top of the ears should line up with the eyebrows. Well, RS did that with Yun, but the ears look like they're set way too low because they did it with the pointed tip, not where human ears would sit D: She looks fine with a wig on, but it still bugs me.

I like Lian a lot, but I'm not sure I'm ready to jump all the way to 70cm, and I'm worried Ai is gonna be too scowl-y for me, but I really wanna get an SD. Starting to really kinda need one for sizing jewellery D:

There's no way to "relocate" Yun's ears, is there?

Alchemist's Fire, I don't know about Yun, but I'd say that you should go for Lian if you really do like her a lot; 70 cm would be a big jump for me too, but if you really like her, then I think you'll have the determination to work on her. Also, I've seen some Ai's who look gentler than I thought you could make them look. The right faceup will do the job I think. Good luck with deciding!

 

Oh, you got a wig from jcf882012 too? How long did it take to get to you? I've been waiting over a month now, and the tracking hasn't updated in 3 weeks...

I'm really scared to go up a size at all, I didn't get to spend as much time holding SDs yesterday as I wanted to so I didn't really get to see if the size is right for me. I got to hold a bunch of big dollies about 2-3 months ago, but still didn't get to spend as much time then as I wanted to. Haven't really gotten a chance to spend time dressing/changing one or posing one.

I'm kinda starting to wonder if I should just buy a body and worry about a head later? Or if I should buy the Migidoll Jina head I have my eye on xD
I have yet to chat with anyone else who has a Yun, so I don't know anything about recommended wig or eye size either.

That's REALLY strange with the Ebay transaction. I actually received my wig super quickly--in about a week. I then asked them for a replacement for that wig (minor problems), and the replacement wig got to my place in even less, around four days. Their communication with me was quick and polite too! Have you contacted jcf882012 about the problem at all?

As for doll size, I guess I might be biased since I love SD dolls. >___<; It's unfortunate that you couldn't spend more time with bigger dolls. Maybe you SHOULD wait until you have another chance to do so. Also, in my own personal opinion, I'd rather buy a head first, but that's because I'm such a face person. Sorry I can't help more! u__u

Yesterday was the last day of the estimated delivery period, so I just sent them a message - we'll see what they say. I placed the order on Sept 20th, the last time the tracking updated was October 2nd...yeahhh. Anyway, thanks for your input!

There actually weren't as many big dolls at the mini-con as I expected, most people brought MSD and YoSDs. I think I'm gonna try and get together with a friend who has nothing but SDs, buuuuut at the same time I wanna put my order in ASAP because maybe I'd get my girl before my birthday??

I think I finally decided - gonna get the 60cm human girl body, with the larger bust and shorter torso (so, NOT the Xue one), but with the double-jointed arms and legs. I'm gonna get both the Yun and Ai heads I think, for various aesthetic reasons xD

They answered this morning, and they have an updated that I can see, so that's good news! I just hope the wigs arrive soon xD


And now there's this fun thing where I've made the decision, but then I start thinking about how much it's actually going to cost for the resin, then the eyes, wig, clothes, shoes, faceup... and then I start thinking about how my two Resinsoul MSDs aren't really "finished" to my satisfaction yet - my girl doesn't have a faceup, and my boy is still kinda finding himself. He doesn't have much of a personality, or a fixed style (he just kinda wears whatever I stick him in), and I feel like I should kinda work on him before I start buying more dolls.

I'm also really worried that if I get an SD, suddenly all my attention will be on her, and I'll ignore my MSDs. I'm really worried about that, actually. And the other thing that's scaring me is that this SD girl will become a big version of my MSD girl - almost like I've re-shelled her as an SD, but that's not what I want. I've already added duplicate clothing items to my SD "wishlist", and I'm kinda kicking myself for it ><;

The reason I wanted an SD in the first place was to model my chainmaille jewellery and make sure that I'm getting the sizes somewhat right. It felt weird just buying a resin mannequin though, so I started to try and come up with a character, and one I'd originally planned to do as an MSD kinda migrated xD

I've got 3 MSDs now, plans to add 3 more, plus at least one SD (girl for now, might want a boy eventually)....I dunno how I'm gonna spread my attention among a crew that size D:

 

I suggest doing photostories (not just because I happen to love them, btw)
I've found them to be a good way to really stick a character, actually anything that makes you write their dialogue is useful. Most of my dolls fall into either glamazon or pretty boy looks, but they all have fairly distinct characters (in my admittedly biased opinion) because I've needed to differentiate them to fill different rolls in my narrative. Just a suggestion

I've been having trouble even coming up with ideas for photostories for the 3 I have now. Where do you get your inspiration?

I realized that Camden having a few of the same items as Maple isn't going to be a big deal, and she's also probably going to venture into Steampunk and a bunch of other styles, soooo I guess I shouldn't be all that worried. I just have to wrap my head around spending the money xDDDD $200-ish for one doll and then another $67-70 for the 2nd head, and then like $40-ish in shipping, so yeahhhhhh and then clothes/wigs/eyes/shoes/blah

 

Short answer, everywhere! For example, my Hus bought one of my (OT for this thread) dolls, Leliana a super cute stuffed nug so this week's photostory is going to be about her getting the nug plushie (and everyone's reactions to said plush nug)

Do photostories of one of them getting something and the others' reactions to it. Maybe one of them has a hobby? (that the others either like or dislike?) Most of my photostories boil down to roommate/interpersonal relationship drama

 

Super excited to be getting my first Resinsoul doll - a purple Feng! He's going to be a Djinn character, and I am going to be doing a ton of tattooing on him (scared of that, but it'll be fun!). I haven't really gotten to see a lot of good pictures of their dolls in the purple color though. Anyone have any suggestions of where I could look for more pictures of that color? I tried google images, but I didn't get that many. Eep!

 

Woah, that does look kind of grayish. I was looking at the picture on the Resinsoul site and it does look a little more purple next to the gray, but I guess I won't really know until I see it in person. Their sky blue and green colors are nice too. Maybe in the future I might get Ju in one of those two colors, cause I really like her too!!


Also, (yes, I have many questions, I know, haha) would Feng's ears be able to be pierced, or should I use other methods? He's going to need quite a few.

Maybe it's 'cause my muse just disappeared on me like a decade ago... The only thing that's even remotely worked is I tried to photograph Maple playing around with my big box of old Crayons. But I was dumb and took them with my phone and only half of them turned out D:

I guess the hardest part for me is that my dolls aren't characters that came out of my head that I shelled in resin, the resin forms created the characters. So they don't live in my head and I don't imagine them doing things, I interact with the resin.

I wonder if I should just go and browse the photostories forum and see if there's anything I want to attempt to imitate just to practice. In all reality, I still need to work on playing with posing my dolls and get some new string for Maple cause she's getting really loose.

Not that many people have a Yun, which is I think a shame, she's one of my first dolls, and one of my favorites. It took me a long itime to find a wig that would sit on her well, her ears can be a bit in the way. I have her in a leekeworld size 8/9 now that finally works well for her. as for eyes, the ones she came with were huge and very alien looking, I have 14mm ones in her now, but 16 would work as well. I just prefer the look of the 14

I might be willing to give it a test run when she gets here depending on what your looking at trying to do to her.

 

I wasn't going to reshape them, I was going to get someone to actually remove the ears, and move them up a bit. Buuuuuut I keep looking at these gorgeous photos on Flickr and maybe I don't need to change the ears after all xD

When are you getting your Yun? That's really exciting! I'll be so thrilled to be able to chat with someone else who has one!

I'm having a hell of a time picking out a wig and eyes for her, I can't decide on a colour or a style for either. I know what I want some of her outfits to look like, buuuuut I don't know what eyes or hairstyles will work with them xDD

I'm kinda thinking I'm gonna have to go with some more normal coloured eyes, pretty seriously considering these, since they're still a nice bright colour.

All this attempted doll planning is really making me wish I could draw...it'd be so much easier to envision her that way =(

 

I have the same problem. Its hard for me to visualize what will go well what just by looking at photos of things online. I actually copy the photos of eyes/wigs/clothes/shoes... everything and paste it into one screen in my photo editor. I resize the images and move them around so that the shirt is above the skirt, shoes on bottom, etc. It let's me see the styles and color schemes easier if its all together in one place

 

i have already ordered wigs, i think they are mohair, or faux or something in that area. i got one in brown, yellow, red, and blue. My plans for her revolve around the elements.

Also looking at the picture her ears do look like they are a tad to low. As if they attatched below the jaw line which wouldnt make sense visually. But she does have a rounded jaw that can give that effect. If your looking to move the ears up there is going to be some cutting and drilling then patching. Should be able to do it with a dremel tool. The hardest part would be trying to match the color of resin. for when you try to patch it up. Also spendy. I think the first idea, boil the head and push the ears up a little would make them look like they were higher up.

I am super excited to get her. Im on a pre order list from Denver doll emporium i saved 20 bucks or so by going through them. The extra wait time is killin me though BAH

 

That's actually not a bad idea, doing an inspiration board. Maybe I should try doing that for the different outfits I've envisioned.

I wish there was some sort of "doll simulator" where I could pick the sculpt, and then play with different eyes and wigs and try to get the look I want xD

And now I'm worrying that maybe that's what the owner of the girl I posted up above did, is boiled and moved the ears...

As for you alchemist, i fully believe your going to love the yun doll when she shows up. Every sculpt will have something that someone wont like, the big difference im thinking of is that "this is my doll, there are many like it bu this one is mine" lol

Im more than likely going to poil the ears, looking at the photo of yun and ai i definitely like the way ai ears sit higher. Of course that could be a male female difference when it comes to elf dolls.

That's why I plan to order Yun as a doll and Ai's head as well, so just in case I don't totally fall for Yun, I have another head that I could fall in love with. Soooo, I guess the advantage is I'm also looking for multiple pairs of eyes, cause two different heads XD

I'm looking at the blank Mei head I have, and the tops of her ears are in line with her eyebrows, and I like the way she looks juuuust fine, so maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily.

i dont have any pictures of the wigs i bought, but i will most certainly post a set of pictures when i do. I dont have the funding to pick up the Ai head right now but i bet it would lowrk... (just tried to type look and work at the same time), i bet it would work out just fine for the body switch and character basis.

Any ideas on what your yun doll is going to be about yet? warrior, princess, cross dresser. the list goes on and on lol. and im also curious as to what someone else with the yun doll will come up with for her.

The Ai/Yun heads aren't for different characters, they're for the same one. Ultimately, I'm getting an SD girl to be my jewellery model - I make chainmaille jewellery for BJDs.

The reason I'm stressing so much over her wig and eyes is because she's going to be a bit of a style chameleon - she'll be everything from various different goth styles, punk, and steampunk.
The thing I'm really worried about is when she switches from goth or punk to steampunk, that her eyes won't look right - wigs are easier to switch xD

 

LOL i could see that being an issue. however i would love to see steampunk chainmaile. It might help if you find an overall neautral color, that way it doesnt conflict with the dark color of goth, or the highlights of punk, or the grey of steampunk, something like a steel blue, grey, or such should probobly do the trick... If your good with photoshope you could experiment that way. Im pretty sure there is a YUN thread around here somewhere that i posted to before.

I haven't really done any steampunk chainmaille aside from a couple of bracelets using gold and bronze coloured rings xD I do have some watch parts to play with, though. I wouldn't call steampunk grey though, I usually see gold, bronze, brass and copper with browns and tans - but really, why isn't gunmetal done with steampunk more often xD

That's kinda why I figure these bright blue eyes will work well, although I'm looking at these pink ones, aaaand these solid black ones as well. Plus I'm getting a pair of random free eyes from the dealer I'm buying her through. I kinda wonder if I should get some natural-looking brown or green ones though.

I'm also trying to find an up-do for when she does steampunk, but I can't seem to find one in the hair colour I want, I've been looking at a Monique Hope though

I'm not all that good with photoshop, I'd end up with badly colourized edits xD It's kinda sad, really. And I have no idea how I'd test different wigs in photoshop. I'm much better at clothes-shopping xDDD

 

Yun has such a pretty face and I love her ears. Mu's ears are a bit large for my liking but I love his face sculpt... So many sculpts look childish and resinsoul does a great job with Gang and Mu for making them grownup looking.

I have ordered eyeco eyes for my Dai who is still nameless and am going to send her to the spa to get all beautified by Rykaan. I am having problems bonding to her but I think with a good faceup she will shine. I love the sculpt and knew that purple was going to be purple so I don't know what exactly the issue is. Dai is so pretty but I am having a hard time with a story for her. I thought I knew who she was before I got her and now that she is home she just says "That is not who I am!" and hasn't warmed up to me as of yet. I am not sold on the black wig either but maybe a dark brown one would be better??? ANY THOUGHTS???

 

Yun really reminds me of a grown-up Mei or Ju, which is awesome because I love both those sculpts. I like Mu's face, but I'd dig him even more with different ear options. I love that the crazy-long ears exist though. Resinsoul makes such awesome sculpts.

I like that black wig on your Dai, but it's kinda funny because her face looks light tan to me and her torso looks purple - lighting and cameras/monitors do weird things xD Or maybe it's the brown eyes that are throwing me off - she almost looks Latina right now, which is kinda cool.

I also totally understand the "No! That's not who I am!" fuss XD Maple's done that to me a few times, she definitely knows what she wants - but she's also a good sport when we play musical wigs at doll meets Grey's much calmer, he doesn't fight me when I try stuff on him just to see what it looks like.

I really hope Camden doesn't fight me when she finally​ gets home, and I should be paying for her any day now!

 

Hey all! Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. I expect my lilac Long head to be shipping some time next week.
I'm going to make a hybrid of him. Taking the plunge and using IMPLdoll's colour matching service to get him a V.1 Star male body, which I'll be ordering as soon as the head gets here. IMPL needs a resin sample to match from, like a headcap, hand or foot. I've got a foot coming as well as the head, so I'll be sending the foot for the colour sample.

I'm also getting a 70cm RS male body in light tan, in a trade. haha I'll be looking for a head for him next

I have Vespera's hand boxed up to be sent to Sun... I still can't believe RS does resin matching too. I am getting the Ai head on the Gang body, and Ves will get her head, again, and be whole, and the body will be going to a Feeple Juri 13 head that I snagged on the marketplace last week. I need to make both of them their eyes.
