5th Motif Discussion - part 4

Dec 3, 2017

    1. @meanaeOMG Thanks for the photos! Yea, Venitu has such a unique neck hole that hybrids are limited unless you mod itㅜㅜ

    2. I am so glad now that I got the body as well. That head hole is so far back it is unlikely to work without modding on another body.

    3. I find it interesting that so many have defined ideas for their guys. I guess I'm weird because I have a different approach. I like mine to be able to be a chameleon and change looks. I bought an additional Venitu head so will really be able to have fun with various looks.

      Jay

    4. I'll have to get my modding skills brushed off. I do have to ask, does anyone know where I can get an adapter for the neck? I've been over a year in my new place, and I still don't have a good place to do these types of mods. I have plenty of time to get everything prepared, since Goohwa lost the "bet" with the Grant Phillippe heads for getting his body first.

I'm of two minds about the waitlist to see if there's enough interest for a second run. On one hand, I'm really happy for everyone who missed out on getting a (potential) second chance, and I really hope that they get it. On the other, one of the contributing factors to convincing my girlfriend was that they'd never run again! Sadly, even if they decide to do bodies separately, like they did the heads, I won't be able to save up for the Timeless body by the time they make another run. We have plans in place for the next year or so in regards to spare money.

      @Jay That sounds like fun!

    5. @bewaretheshort1 Twigling makes a neck adapter for her Eloy head. That works well for Fifth Motif heads on other bodies. You might be able to get one of you talk to her since she is currently running an Eloy preorder.

    6. Do you happen to know if you get that adapter with the head, or do you have to ask for it?

    7. Does anyone have photos of Venitu next to a Soom Female Super Gem (or the ability to take one)? I'm wondering how they look together.

    8. If you order Eloy the neck adapter is included. It is default with him. It is because Eloy was made for the Fifth Motif body, so to make him work on other bodies, he comes by default with the neck adapter.
If you want just the neck adapter, you have to talk to Twigling to see if you can buy it alone :D

@Boussole I have a picture. Since i am on my phone I cannot put the picture in here, but the link is here.
Venitu is not wearing shoes and my girl is wearing the Vesuvia feet-shoes (the high heeled resin shoes-feet combo feet thingy).
      Voodoo and Scorpio

    9. Thank you! I have ordered his head and I also ordered a mystic body for him from Dollshe - so he should rock! :)
My Venitu wants to keep his own body :)

    10. Thanks so much! They look great together! I'm so pleased! I was really starting to like the idea of pairing my Soom Sweet Witch with my incoming Venitu, so I'm glad it'll work~ ^___^

    11. Twigling is NOT selling the neck adapter separately. If you are already buying an Eloy head, she'll sell an extra one for €8 (or $9.46 with current exchange rate). I thought it might be a long shot, since it's part and parcel of a package, but it was worth asking. So if you know of anyone buying an Eloy head, you may be able to see if they're willing to help you out.

As for me, I'll have to continue my search or make one myself. I do want an Eloy, but Goohwa exceeded my doll plans for the year and I've already made plans to focus on dolls I own before trying to buy new ones.

    12. @bewaretheshort1

Okay, good to know. I was not aware of that :)
I've made an order for Eloy and asked for an extra neck adapter for my incoming Fifth Motif doll/heads with no problems, but that was probably because I already had the order for Eloy.

@Boussole No problem :D Personally, I really like the female Soom Super Gem body next to the Fifth Motif. I think they fit together nicely. I am sure your girl will look very nicely with your Venitu :D

@Cyador That sounds like a great hybrid and I am thinking of doing something similar :P For me, it is just Goohwa, who wants to keep his body.

    13. @ Prinsessen said "For me, it is just Goohwa, who wants to keep his body."
I looked forward (two years ago) to a different head, but by now I know neither of my guys wants to share and I don't want another big doll.
so, hands are all I'm shopping for, and only if they're up for sale in Jan.
December is not a shopping for me month. But in Jan (my birth month) I make up for it!

      :chomp: :bellcookie

    14. Just got word from Mr. Cho that Dollshe has finished casting the first Venitus and Goohwas. He's working on sanding them and assembling them, then they'll be ready to go home. He predicts as early as next week. :D

    15. I wonder who the lucky owners are :wiggle:love

    16. Ugh, I wish I could pay my boy off now T_T

    17. Wow, so quick! That's amazing news!

    18. Wow, that’s amazingly fast. Fingers crossed my boys are in this batch.

    19. By the sounds of things, the dolls will finish casting long before they're ready to go home. Dollshe basically pours them, pops the parts out of the molds, then sends them to Mr. Cho. The most time-consuming step on Dollshe's end is making new molds after 20 or so casts have been made from each one. Mr. Cho then has to individually check each part, sand them by hand one by one, and assemble/package them for shipping. That's the time-consuming part. He's been trying to hire some temporary help to aid him in the process, but it's such a specialized skillset that he hasn't had any luck finding anyone, so he's stuck doing it all on his own.

In related news, he said that he's "99% finished" with the new hands. They're being sprayed and small cracks are repaired after each spray. He hopes to be able to show them soon.

    20. great news 4 everyone, but slow down with those hand orders, Cho.
it's Christmas. travel. gifts broke 'til Jan.

    21. Wow! That is fast! If mine is ready to ship in the months of Febr. And Mar. I'm gonna have to scrounge for a safe shipping address, as I am not at one at all during that time. But omg so fast. Awesome!

    22. That is amazingly fast!!! Heart all a-flutter! But I do understand about the slow next step. I've sanded several of my resins and it's a big job! But pretty darn thrilled that this much is done! Hoping beyond hope that my boy is one of this first batch! Heh, I guess I'm not alone there.

    23. I wonder if Cho still lives in his tiny house. All those dolls & boxes! One reason he wants to make smaller dolls he said once. lol.
His brother, I think, was his helper back when Venitu was launched. They stayed up nights working.
Not only is Mr. Cho talented, but dedicated to do this for his fans.

    24. Such exciting news! I was expecting a lot longer wait. If mine is in that first batch I am totally unprepared but can't wait to get him.

    25. oh gosh I guess you stop getting pings from threads after a while
but it's super cool to hear that some are already done :0c

    26. Did everyone see the news about the hands?
Mr. Cho posted on Facebook that it will be $320 for all eight hands. I'm so excited!!!!!!! :D

      • x 1
    27. Oh my god! I had no idea! Thanks for updating the thread about the hands. NEED!!!

Will @BJDivas be carrying the hands as well?

    28. Yes we will! :)

      • x 2
    29. @BJDivas That's great. Thank you so much!! :)

    30. Mr. Cho said they will not be limited - how great is that? I have two guys and that's a lot of hands. I feel several months of BJDiva layaway coming on.

      :XD:

    31. Am I the only one who does not like the hands at all? I'm hoping to find other ones I can use instead for him, bonus if they are jointed. If I can't find anything else, maybe I'll just try and get gloves onto them so I don't have to see them. hmm..

    32. they are pretty skinny, but somehow look right on these boys. Jointed hands would be fun, too.

    33. They are definitely an exaggeration of human proportions, but personally I'm obsessed with Fifth Motif's hands! Hehe. I just find them really graceful.
I can see how they wouldn't be for every one though.

      • x 1
    34. I really like the hands. I'd love to get a chance to blush them. Then again, I have a major weakness for blushing hands. It's my favorite part of blushing a doll.

    35. To me, they look like they belong on someone extremely malnourished by the way the knuckles are all popping out so much. Unless they only look that bad in all the photos I see of them and maybe will look better in person. I know how much work goes into sculpting so I feel like a bad person for not liking them. I was also hoping at least one pair of the new hands would look more relaxed. all of them (even the defaults) look like they are in extreme and unnatural positions :(

    36. I’m really fond of venitu hands because they don’t look as shapeless as a lot of other bjd hands seem to look and honestly I’m such a huge fan of the knobby/lanky/boney look with art.

@LuckyXIII perhaps dollshe hands would look nicer to you?
I just tried on the 28M’s hands and they’re too chunky for venitu so one of the 18M’s probably fit fine

    37. 99% of the men in my family have very bony hands like that, so I'm not unbiased in the least. Admittedly, though, another pair of hands in a natural, relaxed position would have been nice - they only have the one pair right?

    38. I love the hands - yes they are elongated - but that fits the body. BUT 320 dollars for 4 pairs of hands??? Am I the only one that thinks that is overly expensive? Add to this the shipping and the customs fees here in euro and we are talking about 450 euro for 4 pairs of hands? I rather have a body for that kind of money. Including a pair of hands.

      • x 1
    39. I love Venitu hands, but I dont think one doll needs so many (remember he already comes with two pairs). Would be great if we could order them separately or in different resin colors, so more dolls can benefit from them.
I would love to get one pair for a Mystic body I have ordered as these bony hands fit the character, but he is in honey peach resin and thats a problem :(

    40. I do wish we could buy them individually.

      :apig: :daisy

    41. I mean, it comes out to $40 per hand. Personally, I'm willing to pay that. I've paid $79 for a pair of hands from Musen, and it has been well worth it to me because I've discovered that I'm just super picky about hands on my dolls. Like to the extent that if I don't like the hands, I'm just annoyed by the whole doll subtly until I change out the hands. Which is pretty frustrating. So if I find hands that I really love (like Mr. Cho's sculpting style) I'm willing to splurge on them. That's just personal preference on my part though!

Hehe, I'm honestly SUPER excited to get...uh...my hands...on all these hands...:abambi:
      lol.
Um, yes. I love having tons of hand options for a doll just for emotive purposes.

    42. Hey guys, I got a maintenance question.

Does the elbows on y'all's venitu/goohwa have a tendency to keep popping up? It does on both elbows for my boy and I'm not too sure what to do about it. I've replaced the sueding on those joints but it seems to slide those out of place

      • x 1
    43. @BoneLace
If you mean the little peanut part, then yes, that also happens to me. I haven't really tried to fix it, haha, that seems funny now that you mention it. I guess I'm just used to like old Soom elbows that were almost useless, so if it pops out I just push it back in. :XD:

    44. I am utterly in love with these new hands and I cannot wait to treat Pariah to some new hands. Good thing they're not limited either, gives me plenty of time to save. :)

    45. It seems like people on facebook are starting to receive their dolls! Has anyone here received a shipping notification?

      • x 1
    46. Huh? Who is getting their dolls? :o

      • x 1
    47. They have started going out. People have posted on facebook (well BJDivas has posted and people replied).

My Venitu is not paid off yet. Must. Pay. Faster!

      • x 1
    48. Actually, I was told my dolls could be in the first batch even though I still have to send one final payment (I did a three-month layaway).

      • x 1
    49. Is this based on certain skin tones? :0c
What skin tone did you get?

      • x 1
    50. :O I finish my layaway this month. I can't help but wonder if my head is in the first batch. Too much to hope for, right?

      • x 2
    51. I don't know about that. I got two full Venitus in oriental and a floating head in copper oriental. I'm not sure what order they are following, but all the dolls are already in the production queue (those on layaway were paid in advance by BJDivas).

I kinda freaked out because I wasn't expecting them to (possibly) be ready so soon so I rushed to explain Mr. Cho what to write on the customs declaration form. (Still have no wigs, no clothes and no eyes though :XD:)

      • x 1
    52. Yes, I received my Venitu on Tuesday ! :D
I didn't receive any shipping notification though, so I was a bit surprised that he arrived so soon !

      • x 4
    53. Congrats on the first arrivals, thats super quick <3 I hope mine gets done soon too, oriental here and paid in full... although I don't have anything here for mine either, lol.

      • x 1
    54. Oh man I’ll need to pay off this layaway soon then!
I still gotta make that wig for mine but it’ll be some time before he comes home :(

I decided to send him straight to the faceup artist instead

      • x 1
    55. Ah ah, glad to see I'm not alone! I guess when UPS will get in touch for those lovely customs fees I'll know he's on his way.

      • x 1
    56. Popping in here to hopefully shed some light on the shipping!

What's been happening is that Dollshe's casting center has been finishing with casting very quickly. The first dolls were actually finished within a week after we'd closed orders. The step that's taking time is that Mr. Cho and his brother are the only people working on sanding the dolls and assembling them. So, they've basically got all of these doll parts that Dollshe has finished casting and they're working on them one by one. Even though they spend most of the hours in a day sanding, it's still very slow, because there are many parts for each doll to sand. It's very likely that by the time Dollshe finishes casting all of the orders, most of them wouldn't have shipped yet since there's a lot more labor to be done on each of them.

I haven't specifically asked Mr. Cho what process they're following for colors. I've seen pictures of in progress darker-skinned dolls as well as in progress lighter-skinned dolls.

The head only orders will probably ship later, since Mr. Cho doesn't have the means to ship them individually so he's sending all head orders to us and we'll ship them to each customer.

      • x 6
    57. Ah, well. That gives me more time to get my ducks in order. I wasn't ready for my Dollshe heads to ship as quickly as they did, either.

      • x 1
    58. @BJDivas Thanks very much for the update! :XD: I think that must be a record for Dollshe to cast so many dolls so quickly! :roll:Poor Cho and his brother! I bet they are buried under dolls. Is Cho shipping dolls from S. Korea or are they going to you and then shipping from there?

      • x 1
    59. Fullsets and the upcoming hand sets will ship from S. Korea. Head only orders will be routed through us in the USA first.

      • x 2
    60. I'm late I'm late, but.... they're NOT limited???!! Whaaaaaat! Are you sure? That is such a relief on my wallet if so. I have a trip coming up in May and I am trying to avoid spending money before it, but I am not gonna pass those hands up.
