5th Motif Discussion - part 4

I love this! I forget where I saw it before. Definitely would love to see them all. But, for me, having them downloaded to a file on my pc is good enough. If you could post them on your site, we could take what we wanted.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! We'll organize the prints into sets, as well as scan them in for those that want just the digital versions, and figure out the shipping cost. More info on that when we have it all figured out. Unfortunately they can't be shipped with the hands sets, because Mr. Cho ships them directly and the prints are with us in the US.

The hands sets will be sold sometime this month. We wanted to do them in the new year and avoid the end of the year holiday rush. We'll give you guys a head's up before the ordering opens.

 

@BJDivas is there any word from dollshe with the new resin colors for fresh, oriental and copper oriental? I know Mr. Cho discussed it on his facebook, but I haven't heard anything about it from the actual casting company. I wanted to get a set of the fifth motif hands, but if the resin color is going to be different enough, it may not be worth it for me personally.

 

No word from Dollshe I'm afraid.

 

I asked him for examples of fresh and oriental today in a DM on IG.

 

@Mahgiep if you're interested, I know he posted compairsons of the three know effected resins here on his facebook. But if it's an actual change or an error in casting of that set or several batches, I can't say for sure.

 

Hi everyone!

So I've recently realized that I have a pair of timeless' hands in my drawer, and I haven't used them. Like, I never did.

I guess I could mod them - but I'm not sure that it's goin to look okay - so here comes my question: Did anybody try to "extend" the nails of 5th Motif hands? Can you share a pic of that mod with me? I don't want mess up these gorgeous hands.

And a crazy question no.2 - did anybody try 5th Motif hands on a Dollstown 18yr female(!) body? Is that even possible? I'd love to see a pic too even if it looks weird or bad.

He and my Kris Wu have a similar style. It's great to have one doll who dresses unconventionally with style. It really frees me up! It really has set a standard for all my dolls, too. You will have so much fun with him!

I'm going insane! I loooove my new boy, who just came home last weekend. I've got some amazing eyes on order for him, as well as some really swank leather trousers.

...but I can't for the life of me find a good wig maker who works with his size in alpaca. It seems like most everyone does MSD sizes there! Any recommendations?

Thanks evrryone for the nice comments about my new hands. I really love these colours (blue is for my Goohwa and brown is for Venitu) and can’t wait to actually have time to play with them

 

Mr. Cho showed us some sneak peeks of the upcoming (girl) doll. I'm not sure if we're allowed to pass those images along, but let's just say that she's gorgeous. That's of course not surprising considering it's Mr. Cho.

As for the details, based on what we've seen so far, she has a realistic body shape and posture rather than the idealized aesthetic that we've gotten used to seeing in female dolls (in other words, no painfully arched back and upward-thrusting chest). Her curves and volume feel like flesh, everything about her is reminiscent of classical sculptures. We don't know if he plans to offer different bust sizes, but the one she was shown with is what would be described as the petite size, which seems to be what most of owners of female dolls gravitate towards these days. Furthermore, they have a very natural drooping shape. Her belly isn't totally flat, there's a pleasant curve there, and her butt is pleasantly plump. She looks like a healthy woman that you'd see in your life rather than a supermodel that you'd only see in pictures.

Really, my words hardly do the preview justice.

 

That's so exciting! Can't wait to see her (when the teasers are ready to come out of course).

 

@BJDivas - do you know yet if they will be cast by Dollshe? (dreaming of honeyskin)

 

We don't have any information about that yet. I think Mr. Cho is still figuring it out. He hasn't been able to find a caster whose quality he's happy with, but he also doesn't like the wait time associated with Dollshe's casting.

 

@BJDivas Perhaps he should contact Helene of Rugged Realism. She seems quite happy with her caster and her dolls appear to be very good quality. The wait time is definitely much faster than Dollshe.

 

Ooh @BJDivas you tease! I'm not much into female dolls, but she sounds wonderful so far. And I sort of do need a nice female doll at some point anyway. Going off how Mr Cho created Venitu and Goohwa...I think I'm in for a chance at actually falling for a female doll.
I also second contacting Helene - her caster did a fantastic job, and she's a long time fan of Dollshe's resin.

I think I remember he talked about making a smaller doll because the SDs were too big for him, but is the new girl MSD sized or a small SD or do we not know? I can’t remember having it confirmed, but maybe some of you know?

I think I remember him saying the MSD sculpt was going to be anime style, but then he changed his mind to do a realistic sculpt to match Venitu/Goohwa instead. So I think he said she'd be SD? I could be wrong.

From what we could see, the girl is SD size. As for finding a caster, the biggest complication is that he prefers it to be someplace within South Korea, so that he can go in person to check on the progress as well as quality. He's also worried about damages from shipping for a foreign caster. There are a lot of good and reliable casters in China, but Mr. Cho is concerned about recasters. It's something he has to think about some more.

 

Yes, I thought of that as well. It's not like the sculpt will have a replica if damage happens in transport after all his work. Still others are taking the chance successfully. He has had the luxury of a local caster and the ability to oversee all stages, so it must be very hard to do otherwise. I wonder who SartoriaJ is using for their new girl...

 

Ah that would make sense. I hope he can find a good caster for her soon.

 

my Venitu came yesterday, he is so beautiful. it is going to be so difficult to settle on a look for him. i just adore his stubborn face.
for now, he wound up with a sort of apricot ginger hair colour. I am very excited to be a part of the set of hands order when it occurs, and the little sketches too if any are still available.

 

I need to add this girl to my "watch list". I am very eager to see her, the natural body is exactly what I have been looking for. I second the Dollshe caster being rather slow though, has there even been any updates on the 8 hands set? I'm still willing to order one as are probably many others, but it seems that folks who ordered ages ago aren't getting theirs either. Plus I am a bit concerned about the fact that Dollshe Oriental resin has changed a lot after 2017-2018 and might not match anymore (I cannot recall which year my Venitus were cast lol). Both of my Venitus have just been in a dark box most of their life but still Dollshe 2019 Oriental I have is very pink/dark in comparison even in places such as inside the headcap, more than can be explained by natural yellowing I think.

Edit: and also the caster Helene of Rugged Realism used is really good. I have painted three heads by them and respectively I have dolls/heads cast by them in three shades. They don't make exactly perfect colour matches to Dollshe resin even if it is sent in as a reference (one of the three colours I got matched well even though all three were more or less supposed to), but the feel of the resin is very nice and smooth and thick. There are some resin residues inside that are absent in Dollshe dolls, but the outside is just as good. I don't know if they offer translucent resin though. And them being based in China might be a problem to the artist.

Does anyone know what is the noticeable difference in the new resin colours? is it a shift of light/dark or actual tone like pinker/yellower etc?

 

Oriental is pinker. Not sure but it looks darker in photos to me.

 

@Grimalkin I know for sure only about oriental as it is the only one I have both from 2017 and 2019, but the new oriental is a bit darker and pinker, enough to be "off" as a match in my opinion. I can take you a picture.

i'm sort of wondering if i get a shot at the 8 hands to buy a shade lighter then, since my guy is from 2016 and oriental resin. then just blush to match...

 

Okay, I actually noticed I also have some Dollshe Fresh from 2017. I don't know if I should consider this a warning sign that I have more dolls than I remember...? Anyway, all my dolls are stored in boxes and I refrain from giving them any sun, so this should be a decent reference. Fresh hasn't changed so much it wouldn't match with a blushing, it's just a little more pink and maybe even lighter, but the Oriental is already pretty different. I'm sorry for the lack of daylight (Finland, man), but I took two photos, with a plant light and in my normal room lightning. I sometimes have problems with my pictures showing due to the size of the phone photos, but if it doesn't show, then I'll retry until it will!

Spoiler: Resin comparison

 

I have the old Pure Pale and the new resin hand set I got is more white, for what that is worth in terms of resin change on that color. (Of course, I'm sure my Venitu has mellowed some over the years too!)

It's not very noticeable in photos, but in person there is more of a difference. So it's not too bad for that color and a little blushing would even it out fairly well. The old Pure Pale had purple/green undertones, and the new Pure Pale is more of a white, white.

These basic hands are some of my favorite in the whole hobby!

 

Yes, the ones we'll be putting up are all in the old resin.

The shift appears to be towards a more pink tone in all of the colors.

Damn, I missed out on the hands. I only kept seeing internal server error for 5 minutes, then when it finally cleared, everything except the Honey skin option was already "sold out". Incredible, I didn't think they would be this popular. If I had known this is the chances I have with our freebie internet, I would be in bed now lol.

It's a shame I will now probably never be able to own this set, knowing how awful the match on the newer ones is, I wonder why will Dollshe not just cast in the old resins. Judging by the demand they'd have a hundred paying customers right away.
