@emac, your Hellboy and Abe dolls look so good! Abe's markings are gorgeous! Did you get your red Aiden10 in the end?

@Enid Black Bluebell has a lovely colour pallet and a very sweet face, great job with her! I love that you took her on holiday, do you take her many places?

@Kelli Great job with his coat! I've not gotten that far with my sewing ventures so this is super inspiring. I adore his rolled up sleeves.

@kurogane How are you getting on with your Aiden10? Did you get goggles made? I like the bald look too so you can see the horn stubs.

Little update with my guys, I've ended up giving my Amy to my friend @Simi2090 who has been interested in the hobby for a while. She has called her River and given her a lovely face up with lots of freckles. I've currently kidnapped River to make her a wig.

Panic came with me to Scotland to dog sit a few weeks ago so I had plenty of time to pattern make and sew. She now has some new outfits.




Also Granite finally got his face up and body blushing. I just need to make him a pair of shorts or modesty cloth.

 

Wow great work - Panic's outfits are lovely. Poor Granite looks so sad, maybe some clothes would cheer him up. Just want to give him a big hug.

Thank you for the kind words! I did end up getting the right Aiden5 after a while, but I decided I only wanted the one Lil' Red and sold the purple and red Aiden5s to other lovely DOA members. I still have my white Quentin, though.. I don't know what to do with him but he's too cute! lol

Your dollies are lovely! I really like the stone/patina effect on Granite!

I have some dolls and I try to bring them around with me when I can, when I go on holiday I take one at the time^^. This time was Bluebell's turn, and she enjoyed it SO MUCH (me too!!)

 

@Miku_Plantman thank you for reminding me of the goggles! They got forgotten by other projects. I love your dolls, so cute! Thank you for sharing pictures, they have helped me get inspired to work on my boy. He is dressed, so at least I got that far.

I don't have a proper, nice photo set yet... but Aiden is the newest member of my little doll crew!!! I really lucked out and got him in a very happy trade. I found a few things surprising about him. First, his tail is jointed. From what I have seen in photos, Aiden usually has a magnet on the base of his back, but this one does not. Instead, the tail is strung with a little resin button inside the pelvic part anchoring the teeny, tiny elastic.


I also found, and had seen before, a place for magnets inside the head. I have some spare horns somewhere... and finally a way to use them!!! Now I only need to make a trip to the local hobby shop to browse their huge selection of magnets, or shop online from a specialized magnet vendor.

The last surprise was most of his parts are just like my 5 Star 2013 Summer Event Twins, the arms, torso, legs, feet... etc are all the same. I, of course, expected the pelvis to be different due to the tail. He has completely different hands than either of these other kids. It makes me curious as to how many different hands are or have been made by 5 Star for their YOSD size line. Does anyone know?

 

Wow lucky find - he is a cutie. I always love seeing your twins too. It amazes me how many different ways 5Star has done their doll bodies/hands - never know what to expect.

 

That's really interesting! I would have loved a jointed tail Aiden, I haven't seen that before.

As far as hands go, I'm not sure what the range is for "normal" hands, but I've seen 3 different Aiden "beast hand/forearm" sets -- one was an older set (a lovely gift from @Miku_Plantman!), and then I got two more different sets when I ordered Aiden 5 and Aiden 10 earlier this year.

 

@Merlin's Mom Awe, thanks! I do like those twins. I was really unsure when I got them in a trade, but once I was able to handle them, they were a lot of fun! I'm still organizing and re-doing my hobby area, so hopefully soon I will have things settled enough to work on them all with faceups/blushing and some clothing (mermaid tails for the twins and IDK for Aiden).

@emac If you ever have a moment to share a photo, I'm very curious to see your different hand sets. I think you just have to be lucky at order time to get them? IDK. I'm happy with this tail, it's really neat and was a surprise as I thought it was some sort of magnet, but I'm glad it's not..... after getting to mess with it a bit.

I checked the database for these guys to try to investigate hands on this size, but not many dolls are there..... I guess everyone has moved to the doll profiles now. I still struggle to search in that area, so... not much luck on that quest.

I finally ordered my Aiden-5 in moon grey. So now I still 'need' a purple doll. Part of me is still hoping for a re-release of Yami.
Baby Aiden will be my 10th 5SD tiny, so only one more for a soccer team.

 

Was Yami re-released before? Their winter sale is tempting, but I was hoping to get her with an Aiden.

Their tinies are so cute, and I would hope to see more of them around.

 

They removed all of them, but then re-released Aiden-10, Aiden-5 and Jadite, but not Yami. I'm still hoping, though.

Hey everyone!

I'm gonna jump into this thread now since I just recently ordered my biggest doll haul yet to take advantage of the current event 5stardoll is having. I ordered a Jadite and a bibi and I'm getting a little Tony as the free doll. I'm so excited. I hope I put in the event doll order right though, I wrote it down in the order notes and sent them an email after I ordered.

After looking through the thread I am in love with everyone's tinies.

 

Justjordy0: What a great deal! There are so many nice dolls out from all companies, but 5Stardoll prices are so reasonable. I like the new Alice. I wonder if the faceups are really done that way though.

 

My Aiden10 just arrived yesterday and i'm so in love with him even more in person, he really is adorable 5SD gave me the free wig for him (and that fits him very well)

@mollym : Thank you! He came with his paw, beast arm, a gun, extra human hands, his horns, wig, eyes and putty. That’s all, i guess. I honestly didn’t expected it those extra parts since the option on the website said no jointed paw and beast arm is available for order. But, since I want him to be just a normal kid, that's why I’m okay even though there is no extra parts with him. But still, I’m glad to have it, I will just save it instead XD
Yeah, the wig have a nice style, fit his head well, and soft when we touch it. The one that I don’t really like just, I don’t know why it looks shiny T---T

Hi! Bumping the thread because I can't contain my excitement, sorry :') it's been almost a year, but I finally ordered Jay! He's the first bjd I truly fell in love with, and in the meanwhile I bought another doll, but I'm having a rough couple of days so I decided it was time to bring my lil bean home haha~

Congrats @vv_megane Jay is a great choice. I think you'll be very pleased with him.Which skin tone did you pick? Have you decided on a wig and eyes yet?

 

Congrats - I think he is one of the best sculpts. Would love to see him once he is home.

 

@mollym Thank you! I went for normal pink (same as the promo pics) with default face-up well, actually I payed for customized and asked if they could give him default face-up with black eyebrows, because I'm going to use a black wig on him. And regarding the wig, I'm a bit worried... basically, he's going to be the child version of my msd so I bought the same wig in two sizes, but when I tried the bigger wig on the msd it looked awful ; w ; So I guess I'll have to buy a different wig for Jay as well, and he'll be bald for a while which is very frustrating In the meanwhile I'll try to style the wig I already have and hope for the best!
I'm still a newbie so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to eyes, I asked 5star if they could send me blue eyes and they kindly said yes, so I'll use those for a while ^^

Welcome to the hobby! This is a good thread too, everyone here is a great example of super sweet folks that are incredibly helpful. the only thing I regret is not looking into 5star dolls sooner.
I'm a huge fan of the vast majority of normal pink resin dolls. This is my personal observations, I'm sure there's a variety of experiences. The main reason is, usually, with time the resin color will fade a bit. It's a natural process and doesn't mean anyone has been mistreating their dolls. No matter how you display or store them, it just happens, some methods make it happen faster than others. Normal pinks usually fade but continue to look very natural, so if you are wanting humanoid, then that's what you'll get even after time.
Wigs are hit-and-miss. My first BJD has owned over a dozen wigs, I still haven't found the right one. Meanwhile, one of my more recent additions can wear nearly every wig I've tried and they look fantastic with a couple exceptions due to color. Now is a really great time in the hobby for eyes. Really great eyes can be had for less than $10. I've bought new ones for $4 before, and even less from second hand ones from friends. Urethanes are sort of the top tier of eyes due to the way they photograph, age and custom options. They used to normally be $60-$80 a pair, now you can get custom ones from $20 and up from several artists. Some dolls look fantastic in hollow acrylic demi spheres, some look better with full globes and a high dome. It's tough to navigate initially, but you'll get the hang of it. If you are in a region where locals do meetups, try to go. Likely, someone will have a bag of spares and will likely help you figure out what size and shape fit your sculpt best. Sometimes, the defaults are perfect!

Want to share my Oreo again since he has faceup now (did it by myself in the end) i really love him so much! He is adorable and really easy to pose!

I wonder whether the new Aiden-10 is different from the old one? He looks different from my Azryel, and I'm wondering whether that's just the skin tone, or they changed the sculpt in some subtle way?

I don't think they'll be bringing Yami back. I loved her, wish I'd gotten her when I had the chance.
However, the new dolls Gloria and Alice are cute, too - I wonder whether they'd do either of them in purple? Maybe I'll ask once I've fattened up my starving purse... LOL!!

 

Yes! Oreo is super-duper cute. I love him as a little human. I love his wig! What is it? You did awesome with his mouth. I own an Aiden, and never noticed the adorable teeth sculpting. He's a handsome little dude for sure! I hope we get to see more of him.

They actually included eyes, a girly wig (which he is not going to be wearing) and a beast arm. No horns, though...

I'll take pictures later - I've been flooded with incoming dolls lately, I'm so far behind taking pictures! (And I don't even want to think about things like face-ups...)
I hope this is it for me this year, I really need to concentrate on the dolls I have. (Unless a miracle happens and 5SD reintroduces Yami... Not sure whether I hope they do, or I'd prefer if they didn't. LOL!!!)

 

If they sent horns they might be in the head, also congratulations on your cutie ^_^

He doesn't appear to have magnets for horns - he just has the bumps on his forehead. Maybe he's not old enough for horns yet... LOL!!!

 

My "moon grey" Aiden didn't have horns or the magnets either. I think you are right - they are too young for horns

 

Mine doesn’t have horns either. The older sculpts did (from around 2012, I had a couple).
I was thinking of sanding off the bases, or stubs(?) anyway, but I’m lazy and a good wig should cover them. My poor guy hasn’t gotten any love for a while.

 

Oh! So the Aiden-5 is indeed doesn't come with magnets and horns? I just know it! I thought it will be the same as Aiden-10.

 

I only have an original Aiden, before there was Aiden-10 and Aiden-5. I'm not sure whether original Aiden and Aiden-10 are the same. They're probably on a different body, but the head looks very similar.

I have a lot of 5StarDoll tinies. I have Ria as a girl, and she's on one of the first bodies, the one with the tiny, tiny girl hands, and she came in the same shipment as my red Aiden. I think it was the first or the second body they produced.

My monster twins have a slightly different body, and my Quintus has yet another body. And I have Amy on her original body, and she is slightly taller than the others.
My Amy(whose name is Aster) is also the only one who is a truly horrible poser. The rest you can just pick up and put down - they're really sturdy. But Aster has wobbly knees and a floppy head, and no amount of string tightening seems to help.

 

Bad form to reply to my own reply, I know... But it's been a while, and it's been really quiet.

But in the meantime, I thought I'd just ask 5StarDoll whether they had any plans to re-release Yami, and they replied they don't have any plans to bring her back.
But... they did have one left in stock that I could buy if I wanted her.
So I opened the window, threw out all my good intentions, and said YES. Of course I did.

She has a face-up and body blushing, and she's purple. And she just left China this morning, according to EMS. So that's another one to look forward to.
I will have a full 5StarDoll 1/6 football (or soccer) team soon!

 

@Fairy Milliner That's great news! I don't recall ever seeing a PURPLE 5 star baby! I'm so happy she was there waiting for you! I understand about good intentions......

I feel really guilty not posting about mine since I have 3 of these babies. Life has been a whirlwind and I've barely moved them. I've still not started on the sewing I've been planning since the twins (SE 2013) came home.

 

I'd love to see your twins, @mollym - I have to admit that only one of mine has a dress - her brother is still in a Ken outfit. And neither of them have a face-up I'm particularly happy with.

I've been lurking around and just enjoying everyone's dolls for awhile, until February when I bit the bullet and picked up an Aiden5 in moon grey and an Aiden10 in grey direct from the company.I haven't really decided on clothes and eyes yet, but I did get company face-ups for both so that I could get an Elaine (1/4 scale) as a gift. I just got the shipping notice today and I'm very excited. It's a shame that they won't be here in time for Doll North though.

I just bought an Aiden with a monster arm.

... Small problem is, when I went to change it over to the monster arm and hand... The hand is missing an s hook. Can anyone help me with this or tell me what I can do.

 

Congrats on your Aiden, @X_UnTold_X . You can either order an s-hook set from nearly any bjd dealer or make one yourself. If you were to make one yourself, a thick paper clip may do the trick. There's some specialty tools used for jewelry making that you can use to shape it and clip it down to size. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck!

 

Hi, does anyone know how to dealing with single piece torso? My Milo (Tony 1/6) only have single piece torso that's why he has limited pose, he rarely have a proper sitting pose because the body kept falling back. Is the solution only modding it? I still new in this hobby and still afraid on doing something dangerous like modding. I would love to get other solution if there is any. I love the shape of his body honestly, but it really limiting the pose

You don't need to mod him, necessarily. You can put wire in his legs to help him hold a sitting pose. That would likely be the best solution. Here's a thread, but it's old.
