40–49cm Dolls 5 Stars for 5StarDoll!

So I was browsing the tiny subforum when I learned that 5StarDoll was up and running again... with a significant sale! I was able to snag these two with wigs, eyes, and clothes for an incredible price - one MSD, one YoSD.

The box was a little beat up but that's not a big deal. It had a California shipping address on it which was kind of odd. Maybe 5Star works through some kind of proxy to ship to the States?



Yarr, there be the treasure! I hastily put everything back in the box because I forgot I was taking pictures.




There they are! You might notice something that I was completely surprised by...



Talk about a front bottom! I couldn't resist taking this pic. I was giggling the whole time I unwrapped the dolls. Her body (frontways) is very close in dimensions and looks to an old Volks MSD.




Here's all that came with them. Quite the haul, I'd say.



Here's another surprise! I pulled off this little one's hand wrappings, and she gave me a peace sign!

Of course, the big'un didn't want to be left out. She's trying out her telepathic powers, attempting to mind control me so she can get some shoes.

Joke's on her! Most of my dolls already don't have shoes!




And here they are dressed in their "full sets." (I totally chose to put the big'un's bangs over her eye for character purposes, not because I knocked her eye loose...)

I'd say my favorite is the little'un. Her features are kind of lost in that paper white resin (these final pics are the closest to how these dolls look irl) but I love her fashion sense. (She's demonstrating the functional kangaroo pouch.) I'd totally dress like this as a kid. I've started calling her "Lil Pretzel" in my mind already. (I am almost that pale in real life. I have cultivated a healthy computer screen tan.)

As for posing, the big'un can strike some basic ones (hand to face, that sort of thing) and stands alright. The little'un is less posable. Her head can't tilt up, which is disappointing. She has knees like tree trunks though, stands like a steel rod! They're a tad kicky but if it adds to her stability, I don't mind. Her hands and arms actually pose better than the big'un.

Both of them have single jointed elbows and knees with standard hand/foot articulation. They very much remind me of old Volks dolls in the way they're constructed. I actually like that sort of thing but it's not to everyone's tastes.

The wigs were a mixed bag. The brown one was much better quality if a little static-y while the blonde one felt more like mohair... and not in a good way. I'll be replacing that wig for sure. The other just needs some styling, I think. Their eyes are really nice, bright and clear glass! The clothes are of good/decent quality as well. I was a little disappointed that little'un's hoodie sleeves weren't a full shirt underneath but I understand that'd add a lot of bulk and extra work.
