Does anyone know any online shops that carry 4mm sew on snap buttons? I mean these kind of buttons. I have seen 4mm plastic ones everywhere, but I have a few of those in clear and they don't really hold closed, all that well. They are kind of flimsy, from my personal experience with them. I have owned 2mm metal ones, but they are kind of super fragile (and expensive), they break easily (like in half, if you sneeze next to them). I had seen a few listings on Etsy for those a few years ago, for what I found to be too expensive for what they were, so I never got any -- now I kind of regret it. I know there are a few shops that carry 5mm ones, but I find that size a bit too big for 30cm and under dolls. Which is what I am mainly sewing for right now. I would love to find black 4mm (silver is okay too), if all else fails. I would be willing to settle for 5mm, but I would far prefer 4mm metal ones -- hopefully, not for Etsy prices. I have searched eBay, Amazon and Aliexpress, but it seems like all there seems to be available are 4mm plastic ones, or metal that are not snap sew on buttons. Any help will be greatly appreciated. (:
I see some made by Dritz that are available on amazon, made of nickel. Amazon.com: Dritz Sew On Snaps Size 4 Nickel 48 Sets Fasteners, 48ct : Everything Else I'd recommend looking at your local craft store/chains, like Michael's, Joann's, etc whatever you have in your area. I know my Joann's sells them in-store, dunno about online specifically.
Those are size 5/8" which, are well over a cm. What I am looking for are tiny 4mm ones, not sized "4" snaps. It probably doesn't make sense, how Dritz sizes their buttons, unless you are a long time seamstress/tailor (I am not one), but I have been purchasing their Dritz for Dolls line, they had a size 5/0 or 0/5, which had 4mm snaps. These are not it, and I can certainly never find them in stores near me -- I'm lucky if I can find any sewing notions meant for tiny dolls online. Thank you for your help, nonetheless. (: Edit: Dritz discontinued their doll notions line a long time ago, so that's why it's a pain finding those now without paying a lot more for them if you are lucky enough to find them.
They don't seem to carry any 4mm sew on snaps, sadly. But thank you for the link. They seem to have a few YKK zippers in teeth size #2 in longer lengths than most "doll clothing sewing supplies sellers," seem to carry, which is kind of wild (to me). I wish YKK made #1 teeth sizes more wildly available, but I don't even know for sure that they even make that size (OT, for this thread I know, but another ordeal I'll have to face when I finally decide to look for zippers for tiny as well. Teeth size bothers me to no tomorrow, when it comes to doll clothes, more so tiny doll clothes). (:
I have bought these B025 Gold/silver/bronze/black 5 6MM Metal Snap Fastener Doll - Etsy 5mm, not 4mm though
I might give the Dritz 4/0 a try. I am almost certain the ones I had from their doll line were 5/0, but the seller lists the 4/0 as 4.7mm, so maybe that was the size I owned (I'm pretty sure I'm all out of Dritz' and didn't keep the original packaging to check). They are a lot more expensive than the 5mm ones are on Ali, considering there are sellers on there with 24 pairs for under $5USD including s/h, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Thank you very much for helping me, I had already gone through so many listings on Etsy, I thought I was reading bad horror or at the very least had gone half blind! Lol! Thanks again! (:
There is a shop on Etsy that sells 5mm metal snaps in four colours: 5mm Snap Fasteners for Doll Clothes UK Sew on Bronze Mini Doll - Etsy Canada
I have seen the 5mm metal snaps everywhere, for inexpensive prices on Ali, as I mentioned in my original post. I am looking for 4mm ones, which seem to be a real-life quest to find nowadays. Thanks for your help. (:
On the Doll Artist's Workshop website, they mention that 5mm metal snaps are the smallest made (I can't believe that somewhere in the world there aren't 4mm metal snaps!). If you ever do manage to find some, I would be really grateful if you would let me know. I would love to have some that size. I'd even settle for thin 5mm snaps. Most 5mm metal snaps are thicker than I'd like. I've seen thin, tiny snaps on manufactured doll clothing. It's possible I suppose that manufacturers have them specially made and they aren't available to the general public, which would be a shame. Good luck in your quest!!
They have 4mm on Aliexpress, and the seller called I sew for dolls also carries them. They are obviously less expensive on Ali, however, both places only have them in plastic. I found the plastic versions to be weak, they don't hold close well, as I mentioned in my original post. I own some by Dritz, from their long-discontinued doll notions line -- they were their size 5/0, but they have been discontinued for over ten years, if I recall correctly. I found a place called Dressew, they had a few sets left just a few days ago. They are located in Canada, they had some of the Driz for Dolls snaps that I am referring to, for clearance at .25cents, but they sadly won't ship to the USA. Now they are completely sold out. I don't believe I will be able to find any 4mm metal snaps that ship to the USA, so I'll probably have to settle for the 5mm, even if I find them too large for my purposes (personal preferences for tiny doll clothes closures). From what I understood back when Dritz stopped their doll line, it wasn't selling well and was costing them too much to produce. Now I regret not hoarding more of their tiny metal snaps. T___T;; Edit: I have owned some tinier 2mm sew on metal snaps as well. They were gifted to me by my bff. I don't know where she got them from, because I also found those to be too fragile -- they broke in half with the least amount of force. I am barely 5'3" and scrawny as the dickens, yet I manage to break a few. So, I didn't ask where she got them, I doubt she'll remember now. I have seen them being used mostly on 1:6 action figures like some of my Hot Toys' clothes have them on shirts, I assume then that someone is making them that tiny -- I wouldn't want/need them that small. I would just like the 4mm by Dritz back, because I have used those for most of my dolls' clothes (most are over ten years old now), even the ones that weren't as small as 30cm, but they were pretty solid, well-made metal buttons (I don't like Velcro because it doesn't age well, but these Dritz metal snaps were small, but sturdy!).
