A bunch of 3D printing companies were sanctioned by the US today (U.S. Treasury Department of OFAC). So were some Chinese import/export companies. If you're planning an online 3D printing purchase, hold off a bit. Let this shake out. Today's date: Friday, February 23, 2024.
Note : it was three 3D companies from North Carolina, which share the same address, that were sanctioned and had their overseas selling privileges temporarily revoked. This is due to the fact that the three companies have been found selling blueprints and designs for US military projects. For obvious reasons this is viewed as a national security risk…
Is there anywhere we can see the names of the companies? I know my husband's been having issues with his printer and communication from the company, and I wonder if this would throw off communications further.
This is a press release from the US Dept. of the Treasury today. The names of any companies are pretty far down. Anything else I saw on the Googles is from 2022 or 2023.
Yes, the press release from OFAC is here. The problem may lie in OFAC's 50 percent rule, which states that any company owned 50 percent or more by a sanctioned entity is blocked. Russian companies own a looooot of other companies. Chances are pretty good that right now, everyone is trying to figure out who (all) the newly-sanctioned companies own. Stuff on the shelves in your local store is fine. Just - wait on the online orders for a week or two. Banks are skittish right now, too. Anything referencing 3D printing is probably going to get flagged.
