2nd Annual PNW BJD Expo 2013 "Fairy Tale Forest" discussion thread

Oct 19, 2012

    1. News announcement.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to last years Expo, making it possible to continue this annual event.

      Pacific NorthWest Ball-Jointed Doll Expo
      Saturday May 11, 2013
      Bremerton, Washington, USA
      www.pnwbjdexpo.com

      Registration has begun.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's dolls and especially the contest entries.

    2. OMG, I am so excited for this, woo-hoo! :D And yea for gluten-free planning also, I want you to know it's appreciated! :D

      .hlp

    3. Really hope I can make it but can't tell the future x)

    4. I know I won't I be able to make it, but I was wondering, if I buy a Guardian level membership, could I have the commemorative item, program book and goody bag mailed to me?

    5. Tintaglia, yes that can be arranged. Due to the nature of some of the items being included in 2013's goody bag it would be shipped to you immediately following the expo. (after May 11, 2013) No extra charge to mail it to you. Just be sure to include a note when you purchase the Guardian level stating that you are unable to attend and would like the goodies shipped to you.

    6. Eeeeeee, why is there not more chatter about this?! I'm so excited!

After last times fun, I'm hoping next year's will be even bigger~

I have to remind my self to pre reg soon or I won't be able to enter the contests again!

    7. I am also excited:XD:
Last year was soooo much fun

    8. I'm curious to know what dolls everyone is planning on bringing to photograph in the dioramas. There will be an SD sized recreation of this years artwork, so I'm working on a version of Red Riding Hood using Magical Angel's Sherry.
Other dioramas are also being made for MSDs and Tinys, all related to the 'Fairy Tale Forrest' theme. More details will be available as they get closer to completion.

    9. Oh I'm so looking forward to this! Will be my first one. don't know if I'll bring a doll but want to come and learn more. Winter should be over so driving should be good as I don't live real close. LOL. Can't wait!

    10. I'm so excited! My first bjd should be here by then so I should be able to go. From the pictures in the gallery part of the website it looks like last year's was fun! I wonder if I can whip up a costume for the contest fast enough after my doll gets here. The more I think about it the more excited I'm getting :)

    11. I went last year and it was a lot of fun! Can't wait for this year too.

I'm excited to bring the batchix girl that I won last year! She's had so much progress since then.

Hoping to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones. : )

    12. Hi flowerladywithdolls. Since you said this will be your first expo, just wanted you to know that it will be so much more fun for you if you bring a doll, unless you plan to buy one there. Frank Miesner is giving the photo workshop and he takes beautiful photos of BJDs. All the pictures he takes during the workshop are going to be included on the DVD given at the banquet for people to take home. This year's expo is bigger than last year's with more activities. Hope to meet you there.

    13. Yes, why is there not more chatter about this? I know it's a few months, well, okay, 5 months away, but I'm excited about this, too. I may even enter a contest myself. For sure, I'm taking the photo workshop with Frank and Elizabeth. How DO they take those awesome photos? I want to know.

    14. I couldn't make it to last years expo and was debating about this year as it's a bit of drive for me... but if Bluefairy actually confirms attendance... I WILL be there.....

    15. So close, and yet so far. Hmm. How to finagle a weekend retreat - just me, my daughter, and our dolls...

    16. Just registered me and my daughter. Looking forward to it.

    17. While planning for the topics to cover in the photo workshop it occurred to me that it might be helpful for those attending to get some pre-expo feedback. If anyone is planning on attending the photography workshop and you read this and have a topic or two you would like to see covered in the class feel free to post it here. Preface your post with "Photo workshop Topic" so that I can easily identify it as a photo workshop topic. I'll post a couple pictures here just to help spur the thought process. They may not be fantasy themed but they are fairly recent shots. Look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the Expo.

      Regards,

      Frank

    18. I hope I can attend. Sounds awesome!

    19. Registered to be there! I am so excited, working on getting three outfits done in time. n_n

    20. The Puss in Boots bjd by Dear Mine is now available for ordering. Limited Edition of 20.

    21. Wanted to update those who are looking at transportation from SeaTac. Shuttle Express is a great option for those coming from SeaTac airport. They will take you directly to the Bremerton ferry terminal, and from there you're just a relaxing ferry ride away from the Expo. The Expo's location will be on your right when you disembark. The ferry has comfortable seating and tables, great for having a mini meet-up or last minute prep. Strollers will be allowed at the expo and the ferry ride provides enough time to get your crew all situated. The ferry and the Expo are wheelchair accessable, making it easy to roll a stroller from the ferry to the Expo. Stollers are wonderful for when you're shopping and need your hands free. I've found that strollers are great for SD sized dolls and it can be fun to pose smaller BJDs around them. So far my crew has been incident free from the Conventions, Expos, and shows that I've used a stroller at to transport my crew.
Hope this info is helpful. Thanks for the questions. Keep them coming.

    22. So happy for this! I didn't know last year was the first year. I vended last year and already signed up for this year! looking forward to the photography panel, the contests, the door prizes and the dinner!
help spread the word about it!
      ;3 dea

    23. I'm trying to convince my mother to attend with me for a mother/daughter day. So excited! :D I have one costume down, one more to go!

    24. Only nine days left before the deadline of April 1 to register online to attend the Expo and benefit from all the perks at the Guardian Level, including the early entry door prize, photo workshop, entering contests, and dining at the banquet with an additional chance to win a full-set ball-jointed doll. Goody bags containing the commemorative messenger bag and other BJD items are prepared only for those that register online as a Guardian. Basic admission at the door does not include this or other online registration perks.

Due to space restrictions and security, contest entries cannot be accepted during admissions from those that have not registered online as a Guardian. Thank you to those that have already turned in contest entry forms. We look forward to seeing your lovely dolls and detailed fairy tale scenes at the Expo. To those that register online, the deadline is April 15th to send in your entry forms for the Costumed BJDs, Anthropomorphic, and Iconic Scene contests. Each contest winner will receive a trophy and a ball-jointed doll to be awarded at the banquet!

Visit the website at www.pnwbjdexpo.com to register.

    25. Last day to register at the Guardian level. Guardians can enter contests, attend the awards dinner banquet, and more.

    26. A face-up contest has been added, and guardian level registation has been extended until April 12th.

    27. The face-up contest has been opened up to ones that register at the social level. Social level registration will continue through May 1, 2013.

    28. Is there a ferry boat group that's going to take the ferry over together? I seriously want to go to this, but last year I got so anxious about riding the boat :/ Anyways, just wondering if there were any plans for a pre meetup ferry ride ;)

    29. :fangirl: Ringdoll has confirmed they will be attending as a vendor.

    30. I can't find the form to enter the faceup contest on the site; link please!

    31. Forms to enter contests are only made available to those that register. Once you register, the forms will be sent to you.

    32. Ringdoll's top designers are planning a meet while they are here in the USA to discuss future designs. Email the expo if you'd like to participate. [email protected]

    33. It's a shame I won't be able to make this since I just found out about it and I'd have no way of getting up there. But I hope everyone has fun and I look forward to going next year. :)

    34. A few changes have been made to the site.
Contest entry forms can now be viewed before you register. (Resistration is still required to enter contests.) No more iconic scene entries are being accepted for this year.
Guardian level registration has been reopened. Very limited quantity. (This is to give Ringdoll's fans a little more time, given Ringdoll's delay in confirming their attendance.)
Contest entry form submission has also been extended until May 3, 2013.

    35. So excited! :D I've got most of my stuff completed and ready to go!

    36. I'll be driving from the Tri-Cities area of Washington Saturday morning and returning sometime on Sunday. I'll be going through Yakima and Ellensburg. And depending on where I could go a little out of the way to pick you up.

I have two seats available in my car if anyone would like a ride or to car pool?

If you'd be interested send me a pm :)

    37. I'm late to this thread. I literally discovered this event at 9 pm tonight and missed out on the online registration. Will there be a chance to purchase tickets at the convention?

    38. The Expo opens to the public (people who didn't register) at 1:00pm. It's $15 at the door and parking is $4. Admissions will be set up to take credit cards in case you want to save your cash for the Vendor Room.

    39. jyrus: Thank you so much for responding. ::happy dance:: I'm extremely excited to go, thanks again for the info. :)

    40. So looking forward to this. Eos is dressed and ready to go, but Sarah (my Blue Fairy Xiao) is pouting, so now I have to figure out if I can take two dolls. Has anyone tried using a sling to carry multiple dolls? I'd be bringing an SD and an MSD.

    41. @Ivory - I tend to put two MSDs in my purse and carry the SD in my arms. I'll be bringing two MSDs and an SD, but the only one out and about with me at the expo will be one of my MSDs. So if you have a purse, maybe try that?

    42. I'm considering bringing my Chiclines in my purse, and carrying my Dollfie. Hoping to find some clothes and wigs for the C-lines, they have barely anything! If you decide to purse-carry I'd say just lay a cloth or something in there so nothing knocks against your dolls and marks or scratches them.

    43. I carry a very small bag, which barely fits my wallet and glasses case. Sarah would definitely not fit. Thanks for the suggestions, though. Eos wants shoes, and new eyes. Sarah just wanted to come because she heard Blue Fairy would be there. I guess I'll have to use my ninja skills to wrangle both dolls and everything else. :)

    44. Thanks so much for a wonderful time. We especially enjoyed the photography workshop. Also, please let Blue Fairy know how much we appreciated their presence. The young man was so sweet, and the older one seemed so pleased to see my Xiao, Sarah. He even adjusted her ankle joint.

    45. Hello!!

I was at the expo with my friend and BF. My doll was in the costume contest she was the "Fox Sister" I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who voted for my Oona:) I'm shy so when i won i just went up there really fast and grabbed my prize>< i don't feel thats I gave enough thank's out to everyone:) Congrats to all the other winners!!! it was really hard making choices. Everyone did such a great job on their dolls. It had to have taken me almost an hour total to vote on the entriesXD

We had an amazing time!!everyone was wonderful. Over here in the Wenatchee valley we don't have any other BJD hobbyist to meet with besides each other so it was great:) I'm looking forward to going again next year!!

    46. Lennie, your Oona was amazing! :D

Thank you everybody who stopped by my booth and said hello! :D Also thank you for voting for my faceup entry (the Steampunk Lishe with Automail Arms) and my Soom Kyrie Mermaid. :D :aheartbea

    47. Bravo to Marie and her team of professionals for putting on a very very nice expo. I am glad DE and I were able to be a part of it. The contest entries were fabulous, very professional setting, the vendors were great, and the whole event was very well organized and orchestrated. I can't imagine how much work you guys put into this. Again, nicely done!!!

    48. Thank you guys so much for the wonderful time! Mom and I will definitely be back next year!

    49. The photo backgrounds were awesome, and so was everyone I met! Also super jazzed that I won one of the Crobi wigs, it coincidentally is perfect for a doll I'm waiting on. Was also great to see Ringdoll and Bluefairy in person, the bf and I were curious about Ringdoll's male body and seeing it in person definitely put it on the want list.

    50. I had the best time!! thanks Frank for sharing all the tips and tricks and taking wonderful pictures of Sam! hope to see everyone next year!! I cant wait to see what everyone comes up with!

    51. This was my first bjd expo and it was amazing! I loved it so much! Thank you! I had thought the doll and teddy bear show was amazing but this just... yeah this was amazing! I loved meeting everyone and will definitely be back again next year!

    52. Had a blast at the expo! Will definitely try to attend next year, since I couldn't stay that long this time. Loved all the contest entries, and had fun meeting folks and shopping up all the vendors. It was really cool seeing BF, dearmine and Ringdoll's sculpts in person. Anybody get good photos? I snapped a few mediocre ones, they're up on my website here.

    53. I had a lot of fun at this expo and it was the first BJD-exclusive one I've ever been to, which is so awesome! I didn't take any pictures however but I was so grateful that I went as I finally got my Lati Yellows (I came to the con not thinking I could actually get my hands on some necessities I still wanted for my Lati Yellows and was pleasantly surprised!) some shoes thanks to the wonderful vendors that attended. Everyone had gorgeous dolls on display too! If I can attend again next year, I'd definitely make it! :)

    54. I know we had a lot of fun also! All the contest entries were amazing, and I have to say thanks to those who voted on mine. Lol. I was a bit shocked to hear my entry called! Looking forward to next year as everyone was so nice and it was well put together.

    55. I finally figured out what my prize critter was! I was told it was a Dikadoll cat, but that was the MianMian that someone else won. Mine was actually a Doll Leaves Sandy! He was missing his tail though. http://www.doll-leaves.com/doll/view_439.html

    56. man i didn't find out about this till a day before. but next year i am going!! or the next tie it is. wish there was one down in Portland that would be cool.. if only..

    57. Pictures from the event are on the website.

    58. Oh hey I'm in one of those pictures! Its a picture...of me taking a picture.... o.O
