May 23, 2017

The Emma was actually done a few weeks ago, but I never posted her. Pumpkin was done today. :thumbup

I'm still really new at this, so I know I'm not perfect and I'd appreciate some feedback.
Tell me what you like, what you don't like, and any advice on how to improve. Thank you!

And sorry for bad lighting, there's not a single room with good lighting in my house.

    2. I like the idea you have! I can see some freckles all over her face~
The only thing that bothers me a little is the blushing, as it doesn't seem soft enough. Maybe if you tried going soft and by layers, you'd get a better gradient with it. You could try to see other pictures to see what places are right for the blush to be applied.
As for the eyebrows and eyelashes, I would also see some tutorials and try doing it with watercolor pencils. Since they are softer, they would help you get a better outline to draw them.
I've been watching a lot of tutorials and hope to start repainting dolls soon, but my first face up will have to wait for a few months...
Good luck and keep practicing! :D

    3. I think maybe more practice on blushing and lines? Sometime change a tool is a good way to improve these=D
Love the pumpkin! It's sooooo cute<3

    4. @Marina Roje I actually did do the eyebrows & lashes with water color pencils lmao
It was my first time using them though (I've owned this pack for almost a year and half, never knew how to use them) so I probably need more practice. :P
      Thanks for the tips though!

      @Iwachan
If you have any specific tools to suggest, I'm all ears! c:

I also really love the pumpkin though thank you!
I still have to give the stem and top some TLC, but I've got it on his body now and he looks handsome. :aheartbea

He's really great at posing like an 80's glamour shot. :U

The brush I love for drawing lines is Tamiya pro II 87173 it can draw really fine lines with a little bit practice. Paint I use to draw lines is Golden acrylic. For pastels I like Sennelier and Rembrandt. As your blushing is not really smooth, maybe try to use a makeup brush.....? If you want to use colour pencils, try derwent watercolour =D

      Are Prismacolors good?
That's what brand my water color pencils are.

I also have Prismacolor pastels, but Ive been using cheap no name pastels.
I wanna get better at the basics before I break out the more expensive stuff. :P

I'll definitely look into a makeup brush for blushing though, I never thought of that!
I can bear to buy an inexpensive Elf brand brush specifically for faceups. (:

    7. I've always been happy with Prismacolor for pencils, and those should work just fine. (and elf makeup brushes are great for faceups-- aside from my ultra-fine detail brush for lashes, the brushes I used for my better faceups have been elf. The great thing about makeup brushes is that they want to pick up and distribute powder, making them great for working with pastels)

I think practice is the main thing when it comes to improving on things. There are also a lot of good tutorials out there if you have one aspect you're not satisfied with-- some of them address just one specific thing if you ever want tips on one area alone. But a lot really depends on what you're going for and what kind of look you like, since there are so many differing tastes on all those things. And I mean... practice isn't just wiping and repainting dolls-- although it's very different to work on 3D resin than it is to work on paper and some things can't be practiced except on a doll, there are things you can do on paper that will still help you improve, like working out your color blends to see what works, or just practicing the smooth motion you need for fine lines.

I do like how her freckles look, it's very natural. For me it's definitely the strong point of her faceup, how realistic they feel. I also think you've got a good color palette for her faceup, because it works not only with her resin but it looks natural with her hair and eye color. It doesn't feel too warm or too cool.

      (that pumpkin is fabulous, btw!)

    8. Hahahaha, it's the same for me xD I've had this watercolor pencils pack for more than 2 years and I have never known what to do with them.
If you did use them for that, maybe you're pressing them hard?
I'm looking forward to seeing your progress <3
