Contest 2010 Calendar Contest! (Drawing)

I just went with good ol traditional copics and watercolors. I'm not skilled enough yet in photoshop where it doesn't take me FOREVER to do anything with it.

 

I did traditional too, some people prefer it. But cool about the water colours i wish i knew how to use those.

 

I know what you mean! With mine, I was so happy with the original concept, but parts of the final were disappointing. I wish I had a whole week to fix them!

 

I just wanted to post and say that Bubu Odoroki arrived today and he is FREAKING CUTE. OMG. He comes in a tiny sleeping bag, in a tiny little box, so he will greet you like this:

Second entry sent! Who knew I was going to do another one... I didn't. I had given up on coming up with something else inspired. But then my friend had a great idea, and since she had no time to do it I had to! X3 But it was a nice back-to-the-roots experience, pencil only. o.o

By my clock, I believe I sent my entry... two minutes late. Three if the decided-TODAY-to-become-ridiculous-slow-and-difficult internet stalled the sending of my message. Or maybe five, if it goes by my other clock. Who knows which one is correct, all I know is that I'm pretty sure was just a liiittle past 12:00 when I could finally send it. Goddammit. :stabs self: EPIC FAIL WHAT'SWRONGWITHMEGAAAHHH!!!1!!!11 I always do this, push things back to literally the very... last... second... and then of course everything goes wrong to screw me up, to punish me for my procrastinating misdeeds XD .

Oh well. That's OK. I will not upset myself about it because there are probably lots of other better entries that would top mine any day, and this was a good opportunity for me to actually make a planned, finished piece of art... And I don't do that enough XD . Yay for color! I never do color... Which is bad of me.


:calms down, breathes in, out: Anyway. Getting over myself, I was wondering. Do any other artists, after submitting something or putting it out there or whatever right after you think you're finished, go back, like, 2 seconds later to look at your art again and then go "Oh, wait, you know, I could try xxx out and it might look a lot better! And then embellish on yyy! And darnit, I can't believe I missed miniscule little detail vvv!" or anything like that? Because I'm totally doing that right now, and rolling my eyes at myself for it XD .

PS It would be pretty funny-in-a-lame-kind-of-way-but-not-really-just-sort-of-pathetic if I read the times wrong somehow... AMs or PMs or ESTs or what-have-yous. I've never been good with time. ^^; I barely even know what month it is.

EDIT: Oh, look at that. Huh. If you send it before the announcement is made that entries are closed, does that mean it's in on time? Or is that more of a notice? XD

EDITEDIT: :sleep deprivation making me rave: Gosh, I finally spend two seconds to look at pics of the prize for this contest XD . I never got too into anthros :new to this: , but gosh that really is adorable! But it's a pig... If I ever got any cute-pig-like thing, my mom would, like, pounce me for it and then name it after my brother XD . He was born in the year of the pig! And pigs are everywhere, as keychains and stickers and things, because apparently, they're cute and lovable! So she gets a lot of them. But no sheep, because apparently big gentle balls of literal fluff aren't nearly so endearing as piglets. XD If I'm not making sense, humor me, I start to get like this as it gets past 12:00.

 

Yeah, even though I finished my entries a bit early, after I submitted them, I looked back at them and said "I coulda done this, or I should have done that, or this would have made that pop better or look nice or whatever" and it makes you doubt your piece, but in the end I believe that an artist is their own worst critic.

 

I'm excited to see what's chosen! Now to wait impatiently.....

I'm excited too~! The whole concept of drawings of ball joint dolls seems so interesting and cool, all sorts of original and pretty designs can come out of it >w< ! It makes me doubt myself though, because I'm just all 'Well, my lame concept is such a disappointment compared to all the potential this concept had. Why am I so boring again?" XDDD Oh well, I'll draw something more cool and interesting for myself another time XD .

I guess artists really are their own worst critics, because despite feeling good about what I drew, because I never-ever put so much work into one thing (despite how little it'll show-it's cuz I never color anything!) , all I can seem to think of are all the things wrong with it XD ! I'm glad I'm not alone in that way =D .

Not at all. I will go over the top. Liek these pieces are honestly like my 5th and 6th pieces in photoshop, so I really can't expect much of myself and to be honest the work I did exceeded my own expectations, but I still look at it and say, "I could have done this or that or possibly added this, and this should have been done this way, and though I liek the color it could have been more vibrant" ect ect.

 

Crap.... I thought I had more time... I noticed some of the other contests weren't due until 11:59 the day they were said to be due, so I thought this contest was the same...

Oh well...

 

It's currently 1 am EST on August 16th, entries were due at 12:01am EST per the rules posting on the first page.

I have a question. I sent my entry right around 12:00AM. From my various clocks, it seemed like I might be late by a couple minutes; from 2-5? But I wasn't sure, that maybe other people's clocks would be earlier than mine or what-have-you, so I sent it anyway. This was before Truffle-san's post that submissions are now closed, by a slim 2 minutes or so. Does that mean it's too late... or that it made it? It's OK if it didn't, but I'd just like to know ^^; .

I am a bit confused. I have sent my entry this morning but I am reading that the contest has been already closed (¿?). In this thread there isn't specified the time slot (GMT) so for me it is impossible to know the hour limit.

This wouldn't be fair if I can't join :_(

 

It's been stated a few times in the thread, and others who have had confusion have asked. All times and dates are in Eastern Standard Time, as that is where the forum is "located."

I'm sorry, but your entry is very good (and I wish we could include it in voting), but it is just too late. It wouldn't be fair if we allowed yours because everyone else worked to get theirs in on time. You are also located in Spain, and your entry was received at 4am EST (meaning it was 10am where you were?). Even if you were thinking that it was PST, that would still make your entry an hour late.

Sorry, but the entries have already gone to the moderators for selection.

It did have to be a new piece of work and not an all piece other wise i would have had 3 entries because i also have a bunch of older BJD stuff. It is a shame you didn't spot it sooner i hope you get chance to enter something else you like though

It is isn't it, i am going to be keep looking and but i am also excited about it though because i do want to see are the art work and see what everyone has done and that can only be done when they have chosen the final 12. I think i do have a little bit excited because i do hope i get an entry into the calender.

But i think we are all going to have so many mixed emotions waiting.

Haha, I actually drew something I'm really proud of but didn't get to finish it in time. Oh well! I'm still in love with the picture I drew, and I'll have something new for DeviantArt. Good luck everybody!

I missed it too My Camera wouldnt play ball so I drove all the way to Gympie (town 1 hours away) to have my drawing scanned in and put on a disk - by the time I got home it was an hour past the cut-off *hates my scanner*

Oh-well - Cant wait to see the magnificent pieces that were submitted!!!

Just to note, a few posts were removed at the tail end of this thread. The disagreements have been settled via PM and opinions noted for future contests, so there's really no need to keep the posts here, as they made the thread a little less welcoming for lighter contest chat.

 

Awww... mine didn't make it either. But the ones that did are beautiful! Even though my pieces aren't finalists, it was really great to be able to push myself and create something new. I had a lot of fun, and I hope to be able to participate in future contests as well! Good luck to those who did make it!

Oh dear, I live in sunny south florida and it seems there is a hurricane nearby. I don't believe it's gong to hit us, but if I go inactive for the next few days, feel free to send me a PM instead. I will try to keep an eye on the entries regardless. I'm really very curious about some of these artists.

Nah, small level hurricanes are about as bad as bad thunderstorms for us, but it still might knock out the power making getting on DoA impossible.

 

I lived in Miami for the majority of my life. After Hurricane Andrew, all these other storms seem like a cakewalk. It's funny, when I go down to visit my family and a TS or hurricane is coming, we put up our shutters in like, an hour right before it's supposed to hit. My mom is so blaise about it. XD

The worst part of hurricanes/TS are flooding and power outages. As long as you have good shutters and aren't in a flood zone, it just rains a lot. After Andrew, pretty much all the houses are build to ridiculously high hurricane standards. Unless it's a Cat 3+, no ones seems to care.

I still had to work through a tropical storm. Though I did get sent home because there was no business. XD

 

Indeed, it's not as bad as the pictures and movies all make it seem. Though the only reason i say I may be inactive is because of the power outages. Those still happen ^^.

 

OH wow, they are all wonderful! I'm so glad we got this many fantastic quality images out of this contest after all. And you made us so worried that we wouldn't have enough entries, Armeleia! *lol*

The calendar is already on my wish list now.
