Aesthetics 1st face up!

Mar 12, 2017

    1. So finally taking the plunge trying to do face ups this year, I had a go at one today. It's just pure practise, I didn't have any particular look in mind other than doing something a little bold. (Please excuse the oversize eyelashes, i'm still waiting for more in correct scale eyelashes to arrive so these are just to practise the technique ^^)

Not that great but at least it's a start. I'm very clumsy and have poor hand/eye coordination so I know i'm not going to be any kind of master. I certainly learned which brushes work for what I want and how to use them :)

    2. Wow!! 1st face-up?!:ablink: I can't imagine how well you'll do on your next ones, then! You did it amazingly! I love her eyebrows especially. What sculpt ia she? And size?
And well this is just a personal opinion, but I'd say don't change the eyelashes!! They look sooo gorgeous the way you put them :love:love hahah no seriously, if you prefer smaller eyelashes l I think you won't have any problem because you really seem very skilled.
      Amazing work!:thumbup

    3. It looks great. I especially like the lower eye lashes and your color palette. The wig is a perf ft compliment to her face up. Good job!

    4. The oversize lashes really are adorable, you should totally consider using them for real.

    5. Aww thank you for the praise. The oversized show girl eyelashes are a lot of fun but I think they could do with being a touch shorter so i'm not constantly worrying about knocking them off XD The sculpt is Angell Studio MSD Leira :)

Thank you, that wig has to be my favorite as it looks good on every doll i've tried it on :)

    6. You are very talented!!!!! <3

    8. I really enjoy the color palette, it fits with the wig and the sculpt of the doll very well. Cutesy and kawaii X3

    9. She's delightful :3 I really love the style you do the eyebrows in, I love seeing the hairs, and the bright colouring really is striking in particular on her pale skin. I'd love to see what you do with your next faceup!

    10. Aww thank you so much for all the support and kindness :blush @Dilemma09 I'm glad you like the eyebrows, I ended up overworking them so they started to get a bit fuzzy but it was good learning experience. I hope I can get them to look a bit sharper next time :3nodding:

    11. She's very sweet looking! Great job for a 1st timer, I'd never know it was your first time.

    13. Is this seriously your first face up? If yes, then wow I am so jealous. It looks amazing even though it is simple. Love the pink brow:)

    14. Whoa! Your first faceup and she looks awesome! I really like the direction you're going with the eyebrows. They look very natural with all the little hair details. :3nodding: Since this is a critique, I guess the only other thing you could work on is blushing. Maybe play with that on the cheeks for your next one to add some color to her skin. Fantastic job overall, and can't wait to see how you progress! Good luck! :thumbup

    15. I love the color pallette choices here. There are also no noticeable mistakes, so kudos on your first attempt. It just goes to show how much care and effort you must have put in.

    16. @Mrkendoll1 @Raksoval @Funnie Aww thank you so much for the compliments, it's very kind and helps give me the confidence to keep trying working on face-ups :)

Thank you for the feedback, it's always helpful to have a fresh pair of eyes look over things. I think the blushing may be too subtle, I was a bit worried about going too bright on the white skin. (I'm surprised the camera didn't pick the blushing up much as usually it picks up reds a bit too much XD) I definitely need to do more research on what colours work for different skin colours as turns out I didn't feel that confident on picking shades for the blushing ^^

Thank you, i'm glad you think it looks good. The one good thing with face-ups is that you can do them slowly and take your time over them :)

    17. I have similar problems with blushing, lol! I'll pack a layer with a lot of color and then it dulls down once I seal it. Or when I think I have a lot of color, it doesn't show as well on camera. Very frustrating, haha! But I think I've found my perfect balance. It just takes a little bit of time and practice, and you're definitely going in the right direction. You'll be amazed at how fast you improve. Keep up the good work!:thumbup

    18. Wow this is really amazing for a first time face up. I wish I had the patience for face ups lol. Did you practice drawing or painting beforehand? Like the others already said a little more blushing would look even better :thumbup

    19. OMG you're soo good with your first face-up I'm so jealous of your talent. yet so happy for your doll she looks so happy

    20. Thanks for the encouragement :) I think it's going to bit of a case of trial and error to get a better feel for blushing, I'm hoping with practise that'll get easier to judge. It's been interesting trying out face-ups, it's really made me aware of the gaps in my knowledge and where I need to do more research. It feels a bit of a steep learning curve as a beginner but I'm hoping i'll improve XD

Yes, I've done arts and crafts for quite a few years and some of the skills are transferable. Still it felt quite different to things i've done before and is challenging for me. I would like to look further into blushing detailing as I think the face-up looks a bit flat ^^

Aww thank you! The sculpt has such a nice gentle smile so glad that came through in the face-up :)

    21. really like the eyebrows! looks nice!~

    22. Very nice! It's a shame her bangs cover those great eyebrows. My only suggestion would be to add color to her cheeks and shading around the face to even out the pinkness, although that may soften the bold look you're going for.
