While I can't help with your actual question, I may be able to help a bit with the symetrical problem. Paper dolls for a pattern--fold the torso piece of paper in half, draw a rough sketch, & cut it out. Repeat until you have a torso you want to try making. You can buy glue that makes things into post-its, basically, so you could make the hands the same size, too, without having to leave a bridge when trying out. Use the post-it glue stuff to stick two pieces of paper together and pry them apart when you have a shape you like. When you are satisfied, use some graph paper to trace your final schematic. Hi, where are these sites with the tutorials? I'm researching this, too. I am trying to get an idea if it's worth scratch building a doll or not.
