Just For Fun 13 Facts About Your Dolls!

Aug 16, 2017

    1. :clover Tell us 13 things about your dolls-- or your collection! :clover

    2. Oh yes, lovely~

      13 Facts about Ilya!
      1. He adores hamburgers. Especially with fish on them. Like...whole raw fish.
      2. He likes the color and smell of wet cement.
      3. He enjoys playing in the snow in his underwear to freak out his neighbors.
      4. He has no tolerance for being sick and will try to find a magic fix for even the smallest cold. (In his defense, human illnesses hit him harder than normal because of his selkieness.)
      5. He has no coordination in his feet on land, but he's an excellent ice skater.
      6. He's quite good at makeup (though not as good as his brother Nikos).
      7. His hair grows extremely fast. He needs to get it cut about every two weeks. (So do his finger and toenails.)
      8. He can fall asleep basically on command.
      9. He wants to be a peofessional soccer player when he grows up. He plays goalkeeper and is really gold because he excellent hand/eye coordination. (Not so much foot/eye though. He's a disaster when he runs.)
      10. If not held back, he will leap into any body of water large enough to cover him. He loves water.
      11. He would much rather play outside than video games oe anything. Any weather is good weather for soccer. He doesn't much like thunder though.
      12. He has a guardian, um...not an angel, but a...well...cat? Cat spirit? Yokai? Tenshitenshi is the guardian of Ilya and his two brothers.
      13. A story for this one! (Reading his backstory in his profile here might help understand this~) When Ilya first came home with his later-adoptive parents at around age 12, he was happy to be there but was also stressed and homesick. (A Seattle suburb is much different than a slightly mystical ice village waaay up in the Arctic Circle.) It was his new parents' anniversary, so they had bought a nice big fish to roast for a cute dinner in that evening. When they got home, however, they found a 12 year old selkie huddled in literally every blanket in the house while sobbing and eating the special-anniversary-fish raw and messily. Even as a child, Ilya was a Disaster.

    3. Thirteen bits of collection trivia!

      1. My first doll got a new body, but I still have his old one; after I got it from "frustrating" to "solid poser," I didn't feel like trying to sell it, so my wishlist includes a new head for it instead.

      2. My two largest dolls are formerly super-popular sculpts I hated seeing around when I was new to the hobby and they were in their heyday, but now I can't get enough of them!

      3. The dolls in my collection have come from makers in China, Korea, and Canada.

      4. One of my dolls is in my collection because, after I switched bodies on a hybrid, I went to sell the body, couldn't do it, and bought a head off the marketplace instead.

      5. Ed was my most difficult to shell doll, and proceeded to slowly de-hybrid himself into a standard doll.

      6. Early in my time in the hobby, I came across a "buy doll, get any free head" event, and decided to use it to get a couple of my characters shelled a bit cheaper. While browsing the site, I saw a thumbnail and thought, "Oh! What a pretty girl!" When I clicked through, though, it turned out to be a male sculpt. Whoops. I still thought the head made a pretty girl, and ended up taking it as my free head, and ordering an extra female body to go with it.

      7. Two of my dolls were nearly free. One was won as part of a raffle, so I paid only for the tickets plus upgraded shipping to me, a bit less than $20. Another was given to me by a friend because she was missing a part; I've since ordered a replacement, which was also $20 to get shipped to me. I also have a head that was sent to me free (for, again, less than $20 shipping) after I promised to restore it and have it out as a full doll instead of hidden in a box.

      8. The entire reason I have "chibi" versions of several of my characters was because I wanted an excuse to buy more LittleFees.

      9. One of my dolls is shelling my oldest OC, who was created some time back in the late 80s. I'm still working on shelling some of the other OCs who are almost as old as her.

      10. Thirteen of my dolls (plus one head) were limited in some way (other than being free event items). Four are regular releases that have since been discontinued. Three (plus two heads) were free event items. Two are off topic but still resin. One (plus two heads) were custom sculpts. Zero doll owners in this room are confident all those numbers are correct. :)

      11. I once received a tiny (new from the company) packed in a box for a mini. I once received a mini body (secondhand from the marketplace) packed in a box for a tiny.

      12. I originally only intended to have elves and anthros in my collection. Currently I have 14 humans, 10 elves, and 6 anthros (and a few other animals and miscellaneous fantasy creatures).

      13. Of all the dolls in my collection, I only have four couples (and one "V").

    4. Hmmmm lemme see...
      1. Adhara (her very first incarnation at least -- she's in the process of being reshelled) was bought in an IMPLdoll anniversary sale, and I had the help of a fellow doll enthusiast to pay her because my PayPal was still problematic at the time. Her head was free!

      2. Guórén is a semi-unplanned purchase. I told myself I wouldn't get another doll at least 1 year after I got Adhara, but I caved in after Granado released Michael. Something just clicked.

      3. Guórén is a hybrid both in resin and in character. He's a Granado head on IMPLdoll male Idol body, and character-wise he's the illegitimate son of a Han Chinese woman and a European (most likely Portuguese) man. I guess it's a bonus that Granado is a Chinese company.

      4. Even though Adhara was my first doll, it turned out that she's the most problematic to shell out. I was happy with IMPLdoll Azalea for a year before the style discrepancy between her and Granado Michael began to bother me. Realistic and strong-looking SD women are difficult to find!

      5. My dolls' stories are set primarily in early Edo period Nagasaki. With the onset of the isolation policies, you can say things got complicated really fast.

      6. Guórén is a law enforcer while Adhara, to say the least, isn't on the best side of the law.

      7. My dolls have two names each (the names that they were "born" into and those that they attained through adoption), due to the circumstances of their story.

      8. Adhara's legal name is Ozaki Kaguya -- intentionally named after the Moon Princess of legend because she was found in similar circumstances, and didn't look too human to begin with. Unlike Princess Kaguya though, she was too strong-looking to be considered beautiful by the standards of the time.

      9. Guórén, despite his mixed ancestry, speaks in Japanese almost exclusively. He could understand the Mandarin Chinese of his mother, but couldn't express himself in it. In fact, he'd rather pretend he couldn't understand at all.

      10. Adhara, by contrast, is fluent in Japanese, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. She is currently learning the Dutch and English languages. If you interact with the moneymaking foreign merchants constantly, learning to understand them is an incentive so you don't get robbed.

      11. I had such a difficult time finding footwear that fit my boy, I decided to integrate it into his story -- he has only one pair of good boots (given to him by Adhara), and he wears ill-fitting sandals otherwise.

      12. Adhara is at least 80 years old, but it doesn't show. By contrast, Guórén is in his mid-twenties and looks far older because his hair was already gray streaked with white.

      13. Honestly, I still don't know what creature Adhara is, and she doesn't know herself. ^_^; Whether she's a dragon/phoenix, a tennyo, a kami anomaly, a piece of stardust brought to life -- I'm sure it will come to me in time.

    5. 1. If I had had money in the 80s when my kids were little, I'd have gone in head over heels collecting everything American Girl Doll sold. Still like a lot of the stuff, although I need 1:3 scale.
      2. I don't have a human-size couch in my living room - I've got dollie couches & a pool table...
      3. I'm much more concerned about head sculpts than bodies. Body types are important but I'm much pickier about the heads.
      4. I have at least 10 characters who have heads that share bodies.
      5. Many of the sculpts I chose were based on their ability to cosplay Bleach characters.
      6. I will buy dolls that look like Hallyu idols even when they aren't on my character list. I'll make room LOL
      7. I like MnM sculpts (especially of Western celebrities) because they look older than the average BJD. I've used several for my middle-age characters.
      8. I feel certain that the little things in my house (brownies, fairies, whatever - the things my cats chase around when I can't see a thing LOL) love my dolls.
      9. I have a real, honest to Goddess Voudun Priestess doll from Haiti, made in the 1930s. I love her. She sometimes insists on taking stuff I originally bought for a BJD :d
      10. I have BJDs shelled into characters that were inspired by the alternative scene here in Asheville. None are carbon copies of real people, but it's been commented on by my friends. They like it.
      11. Among my BJD characters is a full coven (I am a witch) that I've done a doll story about LOL I use it to help my relatives figure out what it is witches do in ritual so that's useful.
      12. Every single one of my BJDs shells a character that I've fleshed out, full back story, geneology, antecedents, tastes in music etc. Really detailed. I love creating characters like that :D
      13. I have about 4 pairs of shoes & 3 wigs for each of my dolls (although they share...) - this is saying a lot because I've over 40 dolls....

    6. I'll be writing about my collection as a whole:

      1. None of my dolls have formal names! Since I received my first doll two years ago I decided that I didn't need to name them. They have personalities and relationships, but I tend to refer to them as whatever maker+sculpt name the head is. It's hard to put into words, but I feel like once I attach a name to them I'll be forcing myself to come up with a story, a timeline, a setting, all those things that set the stage for a cast of original characters. (I actually have several of these, but they're separate from my BJD hobby.) I don't want to be caught in the trap of forever searching for a perfect sculpt, commissioning expensive outfits and props, and having to settle for a inadequate doll that doesn't meet my expectations. Nah, I'll just buy what's cute.

My remaining twelve facts will be way less long-winded, I promise.

      2. Seven out of my eight dolls are hybrids. I loooooooove hybrids!

      3. Five out of my eight dolls are dyed. I... don't really like dyeing, but I loooooooove the results!

      4. Five out of my eight dolls are either discontinued or have limited availability. All of them (either the heads, bodies, or both) were found at pretty good to really good prices! (yay Marketplace and discontinuation sales!)

      5. My boys are so much harder to complete than my girls. I can take one look at a female sculpt and envision the perfect wig(s), eyes, and an entire wardrobe for her, but I can't seem to complete a male sculpt without a permanent reference, whether it be a human model or another doll.

      6. When I got my first doll, I truly wanted only one BJD. And it stayed that way for almost a year, until I upgraded her body. But then I had a headless dyed body that would be terribly difficult to sell, so I bought another head and dyed it to match. I don't know what snapped in me, but my collection has since quadrupled.

      7. I had heard about the hobby via lolita fashion, but I never once considered actually getting one of my own until I learned about limited tan colors and dyeing them to look more like me. Representation matters :goldstar

      8. I decided to stick to 1:4 scale and below to keep my dolls proportional to each other, and economically, this was a good move. But oh my god, you guys have some beautiful SD sculpts that just blow me away.

      9. ...and so to get around this, I've hybridized two small SD heads onto 50cm male bodies, and it didn't look too bad! While 50cm and up is considered 1:3, these two look far better in the 1:4 scale. My girls won't be any taller than 47-48cm, though, just to keep the collection looking good.

      10. I don't have any dolls on permanent display, sadly. Right now, all eight, plus my SiO2 Bleater, are in their boxes tucked underneath my bed, and I only ever have enough room to display a maximum of three at a time. This will change when I move, whenever that'll be.

      11. My first doll took the longest to arrive, around six months. I think I started to purchase more dolls once I realized that wasn't the norm. My shortest wait would have been five weeks direct from SiO2, had the shipping company not refused to send it to me!

      12. Three of my heads need faceups, two of them need wigs, and two of them need eyes. So much for finishing one before buying another. At least they're all clothed.

      13. Every single wig, pair of eyes, accessory, and piece of doll clothing I own is from Taobao, save for an Antique Beast bat headdress and a rose headband I recently commissioned from an artist in Poland. My heart is embarrassed but my wallet is proud.

This was so much fun to write, thanks for reading!

    7. Thirteeen facts about my (General) doll collection

1.) I learned about BJDs back in 2004 when I was a Freshman/Sophomore in highschool. My friend met someone who had one at an anime collection and brought her first one home later that year. From that point on, I had strived to get one. I was 14 and worked at a local chicken farm. Sad enough, it took forever to save money and I kept spending it on Anime/manga anytime I got remotely close! I wanted a Luts delf Chiwoo. I didn't get my first doll until 2009, which was a luts delf Yder in the end.

2.) I have only gotten 4 people into doll collecting: My sister, my friend, My niece and my friends sister. My friend ordered her first doll with my first one, and we raced for who would get them first! (I won by a week and a half!) my friend and I did it again years later when we ordered my twins, and her boy darae. she won by exactly a week.

3.) My 5th and 6th dolls were my first ones that were actually intended and planned. (Granted, yesI saved up for my first one-- but all I knew was I was ordering a doll and sort of chose on the spot). They were my Twins Kid delf Peach and Yuz. (Nova and Sora respectively) They should have been dolls 4 and 5 but I purchased a yoSD off of a friend, that I have since resold (To my friends sister!)

4.) I didn't start coming up with a doll story until I was 7 (Now doll #6) dolls in. When my sister ordered her first doll, I was in love with the summer '14 event head. My mind couldn't stay off of him and I developed a world surrounding his character. Every MSD from that point on was purchased as a character I could plug into his story. I try not to veer off the path.

5.) The only 'Grail' Doll I have is a senior delf quintus with company faceup. When he was released, I wanted him in the worst way. However, due to low hours at my retail job and high bills, I was unable to acquire him.

6.) Most of my MSDs ages are 14-19, save for my 2 of my 3 diety dolls, who's age is undefined. Oracle refuses to share her age, where Prophet has to agree to keep his a secret, considering they're two years apart.

7.) Kai, My delf Lu-wen was supposed to have long, silver hair, blue eyes and dress in foresty or flowy sort of gowns/outfits-- like he's a river spirit. He was supposed to be kind, smart, and whimsical . Kai now has Red hair, piercing red eyes, and wears generic pants, t-shirts, button ups, converse sneakers. He's rather full of himself, a big jokester, loves getting on Rens, my delf Yders nerves. He has an 'I love everyone' attitude, meaning he wants to LOVE on everyone.

8.)I purchased a Steel heart jamong female when Luts released them-- completing my last open slot for my MSD gang. (I wanted to keep it even. I had an open spot available in case a doll fell on my lap I needed real bad. It turns out, that doll came BEFORE the planned two were even ordered. Well-- it is what it is. Amethysts (Ami's) character developed relatively quickly, and I'm happy to have her! (Especially since she was sent with an accidental free faceup--ooops) Her name is Amethyst due to her eyes being made out of that very gem. ///which leads into---their may be more of those around story wise. :) ))

9.) My online persona/number one roleplay character I use is Fate. I have been using this identity since middle school. (I've graduated highschool 10 years ago...) I was only able to shell Fate into a doll in 2015! Still, Luts Arwen is my definite favorite SD girl, and has the perfect look/appearance for Fate. The only thing I would change, would be if Luts came out with a new Delf Double jointed body.

10.) In my MSD story, one character dies. /and may or may not have been brought back to life/

11.)Terra, my Winter' 15 head was an unintentional head. I received it from purchasing a doll for my sister for christmas. I was to use her instead of a pine head for my character Sage. Upon receiving her, I knew it wasn't meant to be. However, I loved the sculpt so much, I created her character based on a few of my characteristics: Shes knowledgeable, Always has ot prove her point or side of her story, Can be a tad hot headed (Much like my Peach), Loves video games. She was actually named after my favorite game of final Fantasy 9. I didn't want it to be completely obvious (But fans should get the reference)

12.) Most of my dolls have either one syllable or 2. I tend not to have more. Amethyst broke that streak when she came (But I call her ami more than not.) The only doll who's name remains more than 3 is Oracle-- who will not accept any nicknames.

13.) Once, I told myself I'd have 8 dolls, tops. MAYBE 10. I have 21 (Kind of. Waiting for bodies for 2 heads) currently. I intend on getting at least one more near the end of the year. And have intentions for 2 MAYBE 3 more SDs. (But I need even numbers. So if I get 3, it really means 4. Lol)

    8. 13 facts about Tyler (Iplehouse nYID Oscar). He's my favourite and his picture is my DoA icon <--

      1. nYID Oscar is the second avatar for this character. The first one was a Resinsoul Mai that I got in 2011.
      2. I got nYID Oscar off the secondary market (Tyler's original avatar was secondhand, too).
      3. He arrived two days after my birthday in 2015. Best. Belated. Birthday. Ever.
      4. I've never restrung him, although I have sueded his arms. He desperately needs restringing now, though.
      5. I'd never seen Iplehouse Peach Gold resin in person before I got him. It is now my all-time favourite resin colour from Iple.
      6. He's the most solid stander in my collection.
      7. He's been out in the snow and the rain, and he's been to the beach for photo shoots
      8. He's the only one of my dolls whose name my mother reliably remembers.
      9. My mother knitted him a pair of mittens to match the scarf and hat I knitted him for Christmas in 2015.
      10. He's the only doll in my collection that I've never considered selling at one point or other.
      11. I had to replace his entire head in January 2017 because a family member dropped a can of soup on his face and broke his nose.
      12. He is next to impossible to find pants for, because apparently nYID is the forgotten size, even by Iplehouse itself.
      13. People who know me sometimes ask me about him a if he's a real person.

      1. My collection is based on the characters I've either created or transported into my own fantasy world of Naren. Most of them have been transported there from other fandoms, and some are even friends' characters (whom I have permission from). I often write short stories about them, have one novel done, and a second in the works.
      2. Terellion (Impldoll Joshua) is one of the characters originally created by a friend. She also helped pick the sculpt to shell him.
      3. Zaelith (Dollshe Saint) is one of the characters created specifically for the stories about Naren. He is one of the few where I wanted the sculpt before having the character. With Dollshe's wait times, I had plenty of time to come up with his character while waiting for him to ship.
      4. Leinath (Charmdoll Hugh) is a fox spirit. He does not like to admit it, and lives by himself in the woods to avoid people.
      5. I have some characters who are related to each other. Hethurin (Granado Charles) is the son of Isturon (Les Enfants Terribles Don), and the uncle of Rylad (Harucasting Adori). Aeramin (Dollits Rey) is the fraternal twin brother of Arieth (Dollshe Grant Phillippe). Aeramin is also the father of Lyorri (Mystic Kids Melody).
      6. The other child characters are all adopted. Hethurin and Terellion adopt Malwen (Islanddoll Ivy), Narise (Impldoll Simon), and a baby boy later on that I'm not sure to shell in resin. Alinash (Impldoll Martin) adopts Ruby (DIM Hamish). And Bhaqrin (Ringdoll Red King) adopts Kavir (Resinsoul Sui).
      7. Some of my dolls shell a race I call lucaja. Most lucaja are like horses or dogs in that they can be trained to do things, but aren't self aware. However, since some of them have been bred for intelligence over thousands of years, some of them are. They have language, writing and are fully self aware. This race has wings, horns, clawed hands and feet, tails, and markings that all vary by the region they're from. NONE of them are 'finished' yet, but the one who is closest is Kavir (Resinsoul Sui) as he needs the least amount of work to get him where I want him to be.
      8. Both Terellion (Impldoll Joshua) and Orledin (Granado Uranus) are excellent bakers.
      9. Faeris (Dollshe Bernard) and Julan (IOS Anima) are the partiers.
      10. Imralion (Granado Neptune) is a bit clueless.
      11. Two of my lucaja characters needed feather wigs. My first attempt wasn't so great, but my second attempt was nice. I did the next wig the same way.
      12. Ellorian (Impldoll Plaice) still needs his outfit finished. I've only left it as is for four months now.
      13. I'm about to cross off the last few protagonists from my wishlist. I will probably work on finishing them and getting them all shoes before I go on to shell the antagonists.

    9. 13 Facts About Meg (Doll Legends Luna)

1: I brought the doll with a whole new character in mind and then Meg decided to ‘eat’ the character and claim the sculpt for herself.
2: She works as a band reporter/photographer for music magazines, her dream is to work at Rolling Stones magazine.
3: Although she loves music she can’t stand musicals. They just don’t make sense to her.
4: Meg doesn’t like children, they are too noisy and full of chaos for her liking. She would rather they stay many many kilometres away from her.
5: She has a pet dog called Hades (which I will hopefully save up to get her soon)
6: She has a few tattoos (which I still need to get commissioned for her)
7: Her style is very gothic/punk/cyberpunk and she LOVES bondage pants, the more buckles and straps the better.
8: Meg has an addiction to slushies, she doesn’t care what the weather is she’s still going to drink her slushies.
9: She’s allergic to shellfish and peanuts
10: She has a secret soft spot for old Disney movies, her favourite is Hercules.
11: She can shove four whole pancakes in her mouth in one go
12: She LOVES youtube challenges. She ended up with a chest infection after she inhaled cinnamon trying to do the cinnamon challenge.
13: Her favourite time of year is the musical festival season because she can hang out with all her favourite bands and get the best stories/photos.

    10. 1. All my dolls have some sort of connection to one another (except my otter, she doesn't exist in my story *yet*)
      2. My elves all have a spirit beast each (think Golden Compass), one that represents their inner self.
      3. Three out of 4 of my boys will have loyal steeds (Brink will have a dreamrunner, Rayleigh will have a raven lord, & Chrom has his griffin).
      4. I have one existing love triangle, Brink, Zephii, & Riyan, who are coincidentally my first three OCs. (there's a couple of trivial ones)
      5. I live vicariously tattooed through my dolls, so I plan to get them all tattoos one day (I have some who already have their tattoos done).
      6. My humans/elves mostly have job classes from Ragnarok Online except Journey (guardian angel), Vienna (unicorn princess), & Pommie (phoenix spirit).
      7. I only have two elven children in my story, Nem & Amberly.
      8. Within my story, exists a very tragic love story.
      9. My main muse has two Corgi pups, just like me!
      10. I refuse to let any of my dolls have black hair (like me) because I find it very boring.
      11. I have reshelled two out of four of my boys for the better!
      12. I tend to go for couples, so I feel my newest girl, Alyssa, won't be single for long...
      13. I just realized that I'm one spirit beast short! D8

    11. 1. All of my on topic human dolls have full names, birthdates, families, backstories and ongoing stories. My anthro and off topic pets/fantasy creatures only have names and a very simple description.

      2. Of my 20 on topic dolls, I have 11 boys and 9 girls.

      3. I prefer to buy full dolls when possible, but I'd rather hybrid than have a head on a body that doesn't fit the character or meet my posing standards. I have 12 full dolls and 8 hybrids.

      4. I ordered my first doll, Amir, my AoD Chen, on April 2, 2008. I have sold/traded more than 100 dolls since then, but I still have Amir. However, due to him being MSD, he no longer fits in my crew, so he is stored in his box and"retired" from play.

      5. I buy and sell often. I almost always have a doll coming in or leaving, but it balances out and I usually have 15-20 at a time. I enjoy the search and working on a doll more than collecting or completion. Sometimes I do regret selling a certain character and have even rebought a few, but more often than not, once I've sold a doll, even if I miss them, I end up reselling them if I rebuy. There's a reason they move on.

      6. I have been doing my own faceups since Day 1, though I have commissioned artists when I wanted something I couldn't do, and I have bought a few dolls that already have faceups. Currently, only one of my dolls has a faceup that isn't done by me.

      7. My sister is in the hobby too! I found BJDs online first, but she saw one at a convention before I did. My first doll was the first BJD I'd ever seen, and her first was the first SD I ever saw.

      8. I sew for my dolls, but I think complicated things like skinny jeans and coats are better off purchased.

      9. I own a doll who may be the only one in his color ever made. He's a Jie Doll Michel, which is somewhat rare anyway as Jie Doll cast for other companies, but their own line was rather small and defunct within a couple of years of starting. They were sold through BlueBlood Doll, and I bought him in chocolate skin as soon as he was available, and that color was discontinued before he was even home (about a 1 month wait time). I have never seen another one in the five years I've had him.

      10. I don't play favorites. But Luc and Lakin are my favorites. XD

      11. All of my dolls' characters have an interest/personality trait of mine: Hailey likes shabby chic decor, Loren's dream is to be a singer or actress, Erica likes cryptids, Derby likes playing in the woods, Marie likes retro cartoons, Gemma plays 2-D Zelda games, Rose loves the song "You Are my Sunshine" which is the only song I ever heard my grandma sing, Opaline works at Spencer's, LucyFair's favorite number is 13, Parker loves boybands, Dhani has curly brown hair and green eyes, Kier is a Simpson's fan, Lakin loves studying the Solar System, Luc's first pet was a snail, Justin's family is not complete without a dog, Tanner is a Power Rangers fan, Eirnin likes whiskey and Irish cream, Jayden likes musicals, Jack is a Nintendo fan, Amir is an artist.

      12. My husband is supportive of the hobby, and more than once, I've seen him move Luc to watch action movies with him. <3

      13. My dog approves of my dolls, and especially loves Justin. She usually ignores them, but I witnessed her covering him with her favorite blanket once, then snuggling into his side. :)

    13. 1. My resin collection is 95.833% CP, according to my (quite possibly flawed) maths. The remaining percentage is my one little Volks guy.

      2. I have twelve of one sculpt... and five of another. I have always liked series or groups, and it would seem I gave into that tendency pretty good with my resins!

      3. Most of my dolls are packed away right now, as a result of moving house and not having a suitable place to keep them yet.

      4. I prefer natural resin over white resin dolls, but I own five in white, and would only change one of them to natural resin if given the chance... maybe two.

      5. I have a weakness for sleeping and dreaming sculpts and have three dolls who are sleeping/closed-eyes sculpts, and four who are dreaming sculpts. I try to incorporate this into their characters somehow, mostly through personality, but only one of them is a 'sleepy' character.

      6. Four of my dolls are, or will be, thirteen this year.

      7. I have two shells for one of my characters because I couldn't bring myself to remove his default faceup.

      8. One of my dolls, Bran, a CP Elf El, was supposed to have an alternate head, but when the alternate version got home from getting modded and painted, I couldn't stand not to have that head out all the time, so I came up with a separate character for the second head rather than trying to have both as the same person.

      9. One of my most favoured dolls was given to me as a gift by two friends.

      10. I swore I'd never have an El as a girl... famous last words, right? I have a CP El girl. She's been with me for two years.

      11. I haven't ever reshelled a character, but I've used the same name for different dolls.

      12. My dolls don't usually get characters until they have a faceup. And sometimes, even then, it takes me a while to figure them out. I used to hate that, and would sell a doll if I couldn't come up with a character for it. But after regretting some sold dolls, I've stopped doing that, and have become lots more relaxed about characters. If I like looking at the doll, they stay.

      13. Earlier this year, I scrapped most of the story I had for my dolls, because I felt it had become too forced and hated having to try to shoehorn new characters into it every time I got a new doll. So, while most of them have been packed away, I've been working on a new one. I'm really looking forward to getting the chance to bring it to life through them.

    14. 13 Facts about my collection in general:

      1) I have a lot of fun with hybrids, since I have a weakness for event heads. I currently have 7 whole hybrids and plans for about 7 more--most of the heads in the head box at this point will be hybrids.
      2) More than half of my collection is limited or discontinued sculpts.
      3) I have dolls who have family members that belong to other DoA members. My brother has Christian and Oliver's sister June, and my best friend has Laurel's twin brother, and also Christian's two sons.
      4) While I like to make my OCs as dolls, I also love doing dolls of my favorite characters.
      5) I have two Severus Snapes, a teenage version and an adult version.
      6) I prefer to make things for my dolls, except eyes since I have a *need* for glass eyes. But I'd make those too if I could!
      7) I have a definite preference for big dolls, though I do have some minis and a few tinies.
      8) I'm prop-obsessed, and am constantly on the look-out for *anything* that can be repurposed or modified for my dolls.
      9) Most of my dolls are in the same story. The exceptions are my minis and Asleep Eidolon Spearmint, and my AkagiDolls and my DiM/Aprilstory hybrid. They have their own stories.
      10) I don't generally do fantasy and non-human dolls, but when I do, they're almost always in gray resin.
      11) I feel like I'm mostly done with my collection at this point, except for getting bodies for the remaining floating heads.
      12) Boys outnumber girls in my collection, but not by a lot.
      13) While I have gone against some of my "won't happens" in my collection, I still don't have any vampires. XD

    15. Ooh I think I'll do one fact for each of the first 13 dolls in my signature.

      1. Azrael: decided his name the very moment I opened up the DollZone webpage for their Raymond sculpt. I refrained from buying him there and then to ensure it wasn't going to be an impulse buy. A month later I bought him and here we are nearly four years later. <3

      2. Valeriana: I bought her at the very first doll market I went to, exactly one month after Azrael arrived.

      3. Tsukito: was sort of an impulse buy. I had no idea of a character, just that he looked so cool! He's now my favourite travel buddy.

      4. Nascence: was my first grail. I've always been obsessed with Ancient Egypt and when I discovered him (sold out) while browsing through Soom's website I absolutely fell in love and was determined to not only find him secondhand, but hybrid him as well.

      5. Ragnar: was not the first DollShe I fell in love with, it was the Saint sculpt. But he came home first (as a head) because I just could not resist his realism, or the DollShe honey resin.

      6. Desmond: is known to be a very uncharacteristically sweet and dorky-looking Saint. He actually has his own fan club down here.

      7. Iwan: is not misspelled. His name is German (like my grandfather's name) and is pronounced "ee-vahn".

      8. Thorfax: was my first BJD created by a Western artist. I adore dragons and Cuartos' work is something I absolutely adore.

      9. Nocturne: had a girlfriend in BJD form for a little while, before I sold her. He has never forgiven me. That said I have a better idea of a sculpt for him to fall in love with.

      10. Orphicus: is probably the creepiest and most wonderful doll I own. His mad grin absolutely stole my heart when RingDoll released him and I have him positioned in such a way so that he's the first thing I see when I wake up. <3

      11. Salmarnir: is the son of Orphicus. Yay! Mad demons all 'round! He shares Azrael's body.

      12. Malik: is Desmond's illegitimate son. The Iplehouse Daniel sculpt also works well as a baby-faced version of a Saint and so occasionally I'll use him as a younger version of Desmond himself.

      13. Iselilja: was an event head I got to choose when I bought Orphicus. He wasn't supposed to have a character, just be a practice head. But he decided he'd become a new character whether I liked it or not, and thus he generated a whole new story line.

    16. 1. My first doll was going to be an Ani head on the female body. However, due to some confusion on my part and a preference for the photos, I accidentally ordered the boy version. Anna became Icarus.

      2. Icarus was supposed to be done up as a steampunk version of the original myth with awesome wings. He refuses to be steam punk and the only wings he has are very cute tiny ones on the back of his hoodie.

      3. My Loongsoul Yesha was a total impulse buy. I was looking for an Evan when I came across him. Jethro is now one of my favorites.

      4. He also nearly took a chunk out of my arm when he was sitting shirtless in my lap and his upper torso snapped back against my arm.

      5. I hated the Dollmore Kid Vian when I first saw her in person. It wasn't until I took off her fullset kimono and wig that I fell in love and made the mistake of naming her. She had to be mine.

      6. It took me 7 years to finally get my grail doll, a Soom Marl.

      7. I'm afraid of getting a body for my floating head and finishing the doll, because she is memorandum of my childhood dog who passed away when I was 22. I'm afraid I'll just cry whenever I see her.

      8. Arianna, my Dollmore Vian, seems to have one leg that's longer than the other. However, this means she balances herself somewhat naturally and stands like a rock.

      9. Icarus still stands phenomenally well, despite not being restrung once in 6 years.

      10. I named my new deer pet doll Neelix, after the morale officer on Star Trek Voyager.

      11. My DragonDoll Upsilon could probably draw blood with how sharp his limbs are (there is no beveling at the joints, just sharp...sharp edges)

      12. The Upsilon, Aya, was a gift given to me by two friends.

      13. Only two of my dolls are based on existing characters and they're both Dungeons and Dragons characters I've played. Aya and my AoD Sinoue, Loirlei. There will soon be a third, a Mishidoll Murphy in gray skin based on my first ever fantroll for Homestuck.

    17. 1. I've owned resin about a year, and a full doll for less than one.

      2. When I first saw Island Doll Sparkle, they stuck with me for some reason. But since they did not come with a girl body, I tried to ignore her. But after searching for another girl, I realized that I was subconsciously looking for her face. So I got her head and just hoped that I could eventually find a body.

      3. I wanted an secondhand (for story reasons) Ell with freckles, saw one thirdhand on the MP, decided it was meant to be, and bought it. Minutes later, I bought a Sparkle head. The Sparkle arrived first, but the Ell got a body first. Which one is my first doll? Who knows?

      4. I had been waffling on getting a WS LLT Red Dove for a while. But i was waffling and couldn't find any that weren't real skin on the MP anyway. Then two things happened. One, I thought he was being discontinued, and two, a WS finally popped up. I immediately bought it, realized he wasn't discontinued, tried to back out, didn't back out, and now he is here, waiting for a body. The fact that something similar happened later, and I passed on it without much panic shows that I really wanted him after all.

      5. Ji-Han, my Red Dove, was going to be Bichun, but when I looked up his name, the origin didn't seem to suit him and it did not seem like a name that was used much at all. Realizing that IH Bichun was one of the only Bichuns out there and would probably get mixed up with him, I named him after a manhwa character instead, though his is a different romanticization.

      6. Elliot is my only complete doll here at the moment.

      7. So far, all my dolls will be hybrids, save one. And no two dolls (including heads and bodies in the case of the hybrids) are from the same company.

      8. I wanted a tiny goblin lady for a while, but nothing fit, so I gave up. A short while later, the limited DHS Aldou came out and I had a day and a half to decide. She comes home in September. I was hoping to get her a Eve Studios cat as a mount, but time will tell whether that actually happens.

      9. My dolls are from China, Korea, and Indonesia.

      10. Each of my dolls will be a different color. NS, WS, dark tan, and green.

      11. Early on, I had a little wishlist of dolls I wanted, but decided not to follow it. Now I have everything on that wishlist save the cat.

      12. Ollie, my Sparkle's name, is short for Olive. I was tempted to make it Olivia since I feel that is a lady-like name that runs at odds with her personality, but I liked Olive too much.

      13. I originally got into BJDs because when I was a kid, I was disappointed at my Barbie's poor possibility. I found BJDs looking up jointed dolls. I originally got into SDs because they had jointed hands. Which none of them have at the moment. I might have lost track of my original purpose a bit. But I still have only SDs, save one.

    18. 1. While I own many off-topic dolls, I only own two BJDs (I'd like to get more at some point).
      2. Both of my dolls are from Miro Doll.
      3. Both of my dolls have company face-ups.
      4. I have never restrung either of my BJDs (though I think they both could benefit from it).
      5. When naming my BJDs, I tried to select names that were related to their sculpt names.
      6. I was able to buy my SD-sized boy's outfit with a gift card I won in a stop-motion film festival.
      7. I did not initially plan on buying my MSD-sized girl. I got her head for free when I bought my SD-sized boy. I thought she was cute, so I decided to buy her a body.
      8. I ended up buying several pairs of eyes for my MSD-sized girl because I couldn't find a colour that I felt suited her.
      9. I prefer male BJDs.
      10. I prefer SD-sized BJDs.
      11. In terms of resin colours, I prefer NS.
      12. That being said, I would someday like to own a vampire sculpt in WS.
      13. I knit and crochet for both of my BJDs. I even attempted sewing for my SD-sized boy, though that didn't go so well. XD

    19. I feel compelled to do this as, oddly enough, I was actually thinking about 'facts' about my collection the night before this thread went up and how, for curiosity's sake, it was something I kind of wanted to do! :)

      1.
I have had BJDs for 11 years now and, due to having taken a three year hiatus between 2010 to 2013, have been collecting them for 8.

      2.
I currently have 87 full dolls and they all 'live' out on display.

      3.
69 are boys, and 18 are girls. (As there was a time when I never imagined having ANY girls, this isn't actually too bad!)

      4.
64 are SD, 15 MSD, and 8 tiny or anthro. (I tried 70cm, but they just didn't work for me.)

      5.
73 are from Luts or Fairyland, while only 14 come from other companies.

      6.
My biggest love are the 60cm Delf range from Luts. While the originals may be my absolute favourites, I'm also quite fond of the new ones. Case in point? I have 27 'old' Delfs (some of which are hybrids with Fantasy Doll bodies) and 13 'new' Delfs (5 of which are Luts 'My Choice', and one which is a hybrid on an Angel Studio body.)

      7. I have 9 Els (1MNF from Luts, 6 Delf, and 2 from Fairyland. I also have a Little Fee El face-plate, but it doesn't count as it lives in a box and the LTF Elf Shiwoo has the body!), 6 Breakaways, (3 Delf, 3 Fairyland), and 5 Lishe. Oh... And I most certainly wouldn't rule out adding to this!

      8.
I'm really not exaggerating when I say I'm loyal to Delfs. My first SD sized doll was a Moon, and I've just never looked back. Poseability not being of any great importance to me, I like the Delf body because of the one piece torso (aesthetically pleasing), and their small hands and feet (hands can fit through most sleeves, and they can wear a lot of girl shoes!) This is why I like the Luts My Choice system - I can still get the body I like with a range of different heads.

      9.
Only 23 of my dolls are still available to purchase new.

      10.
I sold my very first doll, probably within 2 years of having him, and I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever.

      11.
I don't have a grail. If pushed on the subject I'd probably say I wouldn't mind having an Elf El, but at the end of the day I'm not actively looking for him.

      12.
My dolls, in the majority, are not characters - in fact, if it wasn't for keeping my DoA profile up to date I'd have no hope of keeping track of their names (if they've even got one). They were, before my hiatus, but, for me anyway, that was the cause of the burn out. Keeping them rigidly in character (that I was in the process of moving on from) was boring to me and I ended up just backing away. When I returned I shook the collection up by mixing up eyes, wigs and styles - and basically ended up with all new dolls not bound by any self-imposed rules.

      13.
That said, my current 2 favourite dolls are based loosely on my OTP from a particular movie fandom!

      6. I don't create backstories for my dolls

      12. I have never taken my dolls outdoors before
      13. I am using my dolls' photos as my phone wallpaper now :blush

    21. 13 Facts about my bjd collection

      1. I've been in the hobby since 2011

      3. My favorite size is SD
      4. I recently discovered Pygmalion Doll company and plan to get 2 of their dolls in the coming year. I would like to re-shell one of my current doll characters with a doll from Pygmalion Dolls.
      5. My dolls never leave my house. I would be very nervous about taking them anywhere.
      6. My favorite doll is my SD boy Tumnus from 5 Star Doll. I would never part with him.
      7. I sew most of my doll clothing, but I've also bought from Alice Collections and RRabit.

      11. I live in the US, but my dolls are all either English or Irish (in their stories)
      12. I consider all of my dolls to be straight, as far as sexual orientation. And I only have one romance going so far.
      13. I battled cancer for the last 2 1/2 years (and won). My dolls gave me a lot of joy and peace through tough times.

    22. Facts about Kaiki (ResinSoul Jun)

      1. He was my first Resin BJD.<3

      2. He love sweets especially cakes.:cake:

      3. The necklace he wears was the last gift he received from his mother before she died.

      4. He has a younger sister, Umiko. She inherited the powers of the Guardian of the sea and her title is Lady of the Waves.

      5. His Childhood friend is a small red finned Mermaid nicknamed Tai (red snapper), who has always been in love with him. Her given name is unpronounceable in human languages.

      6. His skin is blue but due to yellowing and lighting it sometimes appears gray or dull yellow in photos.

      7. He was born in the sea but after his mother's death he started travel around to freshwater rivers and springs.

      8. He hates ponds and lakes because he believes yokai from them lead to his mother's death.

      9. Despite his hate for lakes and ponds, he does have one childhood friend who live in a pond. A tiny kappa who is helping him gather clues about his mother's death.

      10. He prefers wearing just Hakama pants when he is not around human. When is among humans he wears a hoodie, full pants and boots to cover his blue skin. He sucks at disguise magic.

      12. The stone of his necklace is full of water ki for magic uses.

      13. He is currently helping Emma find mother in the storyline.:aheartbea

    23. 1- I have a hard time naming dolls and several still have their mold names, like Luna and Kurumi because I can't think of them as anything else. I spent too long pining over Luna and Kurumi and I never came up with names.

2- I DO NOT have enough shoes or socks for all my dolls and I'm too lazy to make socks even though I CAN.

3- Two of my dolls are part of a story line (but not really) and actually lead to published short story Fight and Flight The two dolls are my Rosette Fir and Violet..

4- I couldn't believe it, but Nefer Kane shipped my Lapine to me and I am STILL paying on the doll! It was such a sweet gesture of trust. At first I thought some terrible mistake had been made! But nope :)

5- Other than the two dolls who found their way into a short story, I don't have back story for my dolls.

6- I hardly ever change their clothes, wigs, or eyes!! I tend to find a look I like and then they never change clothes!

7- Almost all my dolls are limited editions and a few are discontinued. I am a sucker for LEs.

8- There is one doll NOT in my profile because I was a little ashamed to have- my Leeke Mikaela- I feel bad they ripped off Dust of Dolls. So I never listed her. Although I DID list my other Leeke big headed girl so....

9- I don't have anything smaller than 26 cm aside from my Fabric Delfs. I just don't like really tiny dolls- pets don't count.

10- The most "popular" (as in everyone has one LOL) doll I have is a tan MNF Chloe. I finally succumbed! It took a few years though.

11- I am frequently asked about the doll in my avatar and it makes me happy :) She is a Volks Pearl/Dollmore Glamour Model hybrid. She's also the bustiest doll in my collection. I wouldn't mind some other busty girls, but I just haven't gotten any others.

12- I sold my first doll, a Delf Lishe, and I miss her a bit, as NO ONE looks as good next to my Volks Heath as she did. They were a couple and I've just never found another doll to go with him.

13- My favorite size is MSD. My favorite, FAVORITE size is 30-35 cm. My other favorite is Rosette- skinny 47 cm girls LOL!

    24. 1. I currently have 15 full resin dolls and only one which was bought (body and head) new from the company. I love second hand dolls!

      2. Only two of my dolls are not currently discontinued or from defunct companies.

      3. The doll I have who surprised me most is Volks Date Masamune. I never thought I would be able to have a lovely Volks guy of my own. I really treasure him.

      4. It's really hard to pick a favorite doll, but I think my favorite girl is Marina (Aria Doll Narvy) and my favorite guy is Sven (Doll in Life Rydel).

      5. I only have one doll with a character that comes from someplace other than the doll itself. He was based on a person I dream about very frequently who is a strange sort of inner voice / spiritual guide. I almost never remove the doll from his box because he stirs up a lot of very powerful feelings, but I treasure him anyway and he's one of my most beloved.

      6. I regret that I don't have more dolls of special resin colors like tan or even grey or purple (because that sounds fun). Almost all my dolls are white or normal because I don't really get a choice when second hand shopping.

      7. I have found that the best way to keep myself from wanting more dolls is to keep the ones I have out where I can enjoy seeing them (and they can get in the way, reminding me that more dolls are more burden).

      8. My favorite thing to do with my dolls is just to sit quietly and hold them. When I look at them and touch them in that way I can feel myself drift off to a gentle imaginary place where I feel like the doll guides me through their personal world.

      9. It took me a few years to stop being afraid to restring my dolls, but now that I'm not I think it's actually very easy!

      10. I don't really create backstories or complex worlds for my doll characters, but since we do all live here together I imagine they are all friends with each other, and that makes me happy.

      11. I remember when I was first getting started in the hobby how guilty I would feel to re-shell a character from one doll into another, and now it's something I won't hesitate for a moment to do if the situation arises.

      12. I found it took a long time to learn how to do face-ups very well, but now that it feels easy to do it's absolutely my favorite means of creative expression.

      13. I never could have imagined I'd end up in this crazy hobby but every day I look at my dolls and feel so happy to have discovered it.

    25. Here are 13 numbered facts about my resin and vinyl families.

      1. Hiro (Volks Link) is my 1st BJD. He is still my favorite.
      2. I have 2 Dollzone Yuus. Akone was my 1st, but Duke is my 2nd favorite of all my BJDs.
      3. I have 3 Volks SD13 girls: Mimi13, Emma and a FCS F37.
      4. My BJD rock band currently has 4 active members.
      5. Two of my Dollfie Dream boys are a sculpt I never thought I would like, but I love them -- the DDH-05!
      6. I have 6 Dollzone 70cm boys on the old original b70-001 body. (One is a hybrid.)
      7. I have resin boys on 7 Volks bodies in the house. (Two are hybrids.)
      8. I have purchased a doll to be a particular character of mine at least 8 times!! Still trying to find the right one...
      9. I have one BJD each from the following 9 companies: Elfdoll, Angell Studio, Bobobie, Resinsoul, Unidoll, Dream of Doll, DIM, SQLabs and Migidoll. (The last three are heads hybrided onto other bodies.)
      10. 10 of my resin BJDs have brown eyes.
      11. I was the first owner of 11 of my resin or vinyl BJDs. The rest were either partly or entirely secondhand.
      12. 12 of my BJDs are white or tan. The rest are "normal" in color.
      13. I have 13 dolls in my Dollfie Dream family! About half of them are hybrid boys.

      4
I just recently got my first non tiny a Doll-love Kaja and I would love to get another MSD to go with him.
      5
The thought of picking a favorite or hypothetically getting rid of all of my dolls but one is enough to cause me sleepless nights.
      6

      7
I am currently waiting on my first 'fantasy' skinned doll
      8
Four of my dolls are male, four are female and one is genderless
      9

      11
My dolls help me to deal with my health issues
      12
Most of my dolls have had a set look long before they arrived.
      13
Only two of my dolls fully exist within the same world though this will change when the doll I've ordered arrives.

    27. 1. While I got my first BJD in 2016, I have been a fan of them for around 7 years.

      2. So far, all of my dolls are based on my roleplay characters. This happened accidentally, as I originally intended to use my first doll(a BBD Naomi) as a cosplay doll to dress up as different characters. I tried but I just wasn't connecting that way, so I ended up breaking down and turning her into one of my characters.

      3. Most of my dolls' characters are vampires.

      4. Most of my dolls' characters belong to the same family, so they are all related in some way.

      5. Most of my dolls' characters are also Japanese, or have Japanese somewhere in their heritage.

      6. So far, I like all sizes of BJD. Amongst my current collection, I will admit that I mainly prefer my bigger dolls. Except for when it comes to Taini(my KDF Darae).

      7. I always "introduce" all of my dolls to my pet Silkie rooster, Modena, upon their arrival. He always inspects every kind of doll I bring home, which he's been doing since he was a chick of only a few days old. He never pecks them, but seems interested.

      8. I also pose my dolls with my rooster for photos all the time, he's such a good boy about holding a pose and waiting while I get the doll to hold a pose next to him. XD

      9. I bought most of my current collection secondhand.

      10. I currently have 4 MSDs(3 girls, 1 boy) and 3 SDs(2 girls, 1 boy). I also have a floating head, whose body I'm waiting on. I have another MSD boy on the way, and will be putting 3 boys on layaway soon.

      11. I love all resin colors.

      12. My grail doll is DOD Homme Ducan.

      13. I really want a Pengu from H-Nest.

    28. OK :)

      1. All my dolls but two are adult minis.

      2. Newest lad is a Souldoll/Unoa B-el/Buff blind seraph who plays the flute (and he really, really needs a name).

      3. They all live in a fantasy universe instead of boring old modern RL.

      4. Ido's magic can summon a big blue sword at will.

      5. Little dragon boy Tarec has an outfit that was more expensive than he was (he's a Resinsoul, the tunic is from Soom).

      6. While he has a human body, Phiel is an articifial being - that's where his steampunk look comes from.

      7. Aoi has a cherry blossom tattoo on her chest, but it's rarely visible.

      8. Iplehouse's peach gold and Souldoll sandy are my favourite resin colours.

      9. Forest elf Firiel has an obitsu head on a resin body rather than the other way around.

      10. Many of my dolls have a weapon of some sort (unfortunately I still have no idea how to attack Aoi's swords and their sheaths to her belt).

      11. Cats are Iplehouse's best invention.

      12. I still can't restring my gang properly. Aoi's hand hook once took a chunk out of my thumb.

      13. I love my two elves, but really, their ears should be bigger :)

    29. 1. For some reason for BJDs I almost always prefer male dolls. For most off-topic dolls, I lean towards females
      2. If I buy second hand and the user tells me the name they originally had for the doll, I'm usually unable to change it. For some reason I immediately get the mentality that that's the dolls name regardless. And sometimes I pick names I don't like for my dolls, purely because that name just suits the doll so well. It can be frustrating! So most of my collection doesn't have names I like much, but I still love them all.
      3. I always put off buying the clothes last because they seem harder to find to match the characters I have in mind. A lot of my dolls are nude or wearing cheap temporary clothes XD
      4. For some reason I can't buy expensive doll shoes. I'm the same IRL. I just don't care about shoes enough to invest so much money in them for some reason! I'd prefer to spend the money on clothes. So all of my dolls have cheap shoes, too.
      5. I prefer bigger dolls, and bond with them easier
      6. I don't think I've ever properly bonded with any of my smaller dolls
      7. I tend to plan too many dolls at once (I'm sure a lot of people have this problem XD)
      8. I'm hoping to get a vampire BJD one day, but I'm so picky I haven't been able to yet
      9. I'm obsessed with either white or dark skinned dolls but not in between. I love pure white and I love love tan. I'm pretty indifferent about anything in between.
      10. In the 2 years I've been living with my partner we've only ever had one fight, and it was when he put my brand new luts boy on the floor behind the table because his friend was coming over and he was embarrassed by it LOL
      11. My first doll is a luts senior delf named Lucas
      12. My collection usually sits on my desk and only get moved for photos or when I'm cleaning
      13. It took me 4 years to get my first doll, Lucas

      • x 1
    30. 1. I still own my first full doll, but I've sold like 90% of the dolls I've ever owed.
      2. I try to keep all of my like-sized dolls in the same universe so I can take pictures of them together.
      3. I've only ever been satisfied with one male doll I've owed... but I had to sell him for bills, and I don't intend to reshell him.
      4. None of my dolls are human. (Though some might have been human at one point in their backstory.)
      5. My poor dolls have somehow had their love lives mirror mine! :sweat
      6. I've tried my hand at modding, faceups, wig making, and clothes making. I hope to open a store for clothes, faceups, and mods eventually.
      7. I would love to have better dioramas! My new place has deeper shelves so I can get new furniture.
      8. Aileen Doll dragons are life and I'm sad they aren't available as basics right now. I'd sell a kidney or half my liver to complete my collection of them.
      9. I was lucky enough to have my mom gift me a pukifee when I first got into the hobby, but her size is too small for my tastes. Despite how much I loved her (she was my first faceup and I had her modded), I finally sold her this year to someone who will play with her more. I still feel a little bit of guilt over it.
      10. My collection has several limited sculpts, and I tend to favor them in my buying habits.... even though most of the time I sell them when they arrive because something isn't "right" about them in person.
      11. None of my dolls have the same hair color, and I try to keep their eye color different as well. I like the variety, but I have a love of redheads....
      12. Naming dolls is the hardest thing! Other than 2 dolls, they've each gone through several names for months before I can actually decide. My Risse still doesn't have a set name and she's been home for a year.
      13. My friends sometimes tease me about my dolls coming to life and taking their souls. All I can do is laugh because Elomoria (my SD that is displayed in my living room) is actually a reaper.

    31. Facts about each of my dolls, in order of their arrival.

      Millicka Jade
      1. I chose her for her neutral and versatile aesthetic, and I think that's why her name has given me so much trouble. Since she doesn't really have a distinct character of her own, it was hard to find a name with the right flavor. Maybe I should create a character for her to help me bond with her...
      2. I want light green eyes for her but haven't found the right pair yet.
      3. My least favorite feature is her chunky fingers. I want to try making them more delicate but I've not yet done any permanent mods so I'm nervous about ruining them..

      Virga
      4. My gateway doll into impulse buys. :chomp:
      5. Her character is a mist spirit, related to both water and air.
      6. The SWD body is my favorite of all my dolls for its delicate details and great poseability. She can be floppy, though.

      Sumire
      7. I was looking for a small white-skinned doll with elf ears to shell a childhood character, a fairy named Violet, but the Aiko fullset inspired me to change the character to a Japanese spirit.
      8. She's by far my worst poser, with single-jointed arms and knees and the weirdest hip engineering I've ever seen.
      9. She has head magnets for ears and antlers, back magnets for wings, and her legs can be exchanged for a naga tail.

      Rebecca
      10. I thought I would never get a Volks doll because their aesthetic isn't usually to my taste, but... things happen.
      11. She's named after my mother, since she was a gift from my parents.
      12. I love her fist/"rock" hands. They look more natural in a variety of poses compared to open hands which can often look stiff and weird if they're at the wrong angle.

And miscellaneous 13: I like variety in my collection, so in the future I want a tan doll and a boy doll (possibly one and the same), but I expect any more additions are a long ways off.

    32. 1. I´m super picky about wigs, clothes, eyes etc. I prefer buying a good looking expensive item over a cheap. The worst is me and face ups. Only 2 of my dolls have a factory face up and I happily pay 150 $ for my favourite FU artist
      2. The doll price says nothing about how likely it is that I adopt the doll. The mold must speak to me.
      3. I LOVE realistic molds
      4. Impldoll is my favourite doll company followed by Iplehouse
      5. I´m not the biggest fan of Soom but have a Dia an a Puss in boots Baby ver. incoming
      6. I love the Akagidoll Body I got for my Switch Soseo to bits and wished all my dolls could pose like this
      7. I would have prefered that Fashion sized dolls would have been popular earlier. I have two Iplehouse FIDs and would replace my Soom elf Dia, Switch holy Soseo and Impldoll Marcus without hesitations if they come out in this size
      8. Almost all of my dolls have Eyeco soft glass eyes. I love them!
      9. Except 2 dolls all have either luts or crobidoll wigs
      10. I feel sorry if a doll have a bad face up, clothes or wig
      11. Only 1 doll of mine has a written backstory
      12. 10 - 12 dolls are the max for me
      13. I love crafting, sewing and photography. Dolls are perfect for me

    33. 13 Minty Fresh Facts!

      1. The first BJD I ever saw was a Bambicrony Shy. I ended up buying the sculpt a few years into collecting, but later sold her to reshell her character in a larger size.

      2. I originally told myself "only three" and now... well, yeah. You see how long that lasted.

      3. I used to hate dolls as a child so when I originally became fascinated with BJDs I was very surprised.

      4. Have I mentioned this hobby is my true love? Like, seriously. It helps keep my creative juices flowing and offers me an outlet to express my emotions in resin.

      5. I own one off-topic doll: a Hujoo Action Girl Dana. Despite being off-topic she is one of my favorites!

      6. I'm one of those "dress 'em then display 'em" hobbyists. In other words, each doll has a certain look and I'm not a fan of changing their clothes or buying them full wardrobes. Once I'm satisfied with their style, I stick with it.

      7. 90% of the characters my dolls are based on identify as LGBTQA+. Including LGBTQA+ (and all minorities) in fiction is a very important topic to me---so much so I'm a member of the We Need Diverse Books organization for writers/authors.

      8. The first doll I ever painted was an Only-Doll Xuan Yan as a gift for a dear friend.

      9. I love crafting props and testing new techniques!

      10. I am addicted to dyeing dolls after dyeing my SOOM Pyrol and DIM Happy Ace using iDyePoly and RIT Dyemore, respectively. I'm hoping to branch out and try fantasy colors soon!

      11. I refer to my Volks YoSD Kira as my "problem doll," simply because I've owned her for almost eight years and she refuses to cooperate with me. I've offered her three characters to shell and she's refused every single one. I honestly have no idea what to do with her anymore but love her too much to give up, lol.

      12. I love collecting urethane eyes as much as I love collecting these dolls, themselves.

      13. My dream is to add on a room to my house devoted to my dolls, then create in-scale dioramas from floor-to-ceiling.

      • x 1
    34. 1. I started my collection with a Luts Soo vampire who was painted and had her clothes made by the amazing Evenstar. She is still one of my favorites.
      2. I have been in the hobby long enough to remember when you didn't have grey or REALLY fantasy dolls. When grey hit, I started collecting them like crazy. About a third of my dolls are now grey, and my newest doll is grey.
      3. When I first started my collection I collected whatever caught my fancy. We had a financial crisis and I decided to sell some dolls, I decided then I would only collect vampires, elves, and demons. And I sold all my strictly human dolls.
      4. I am only creative when it comes to naming my Volks DD dolls, and this is mostly because they are just "numbered" heads unless they are a limited fullset doll. Most of my dolls have retained their sculpt names.
      5. Despite the lack of creativity in the first statement, all dolls have a fairly extensive back story and there is a main story running through the whole lot.
      6. I find dressing, putting on wigs, and changing eyes so unbelievably frustrating, once a doll is finished to my liking, I never change them.
      7. I don't play with my dolls. They stay in their case. I am extremely paranoid they will get damaged.
      8. My really big case is in the living room. I find myself staring at my dolls while I am trying to watch t.v.
      9. Lately, because I am bit less free with money now, I seem to get the wig, eyes, and outfit before the actual doll.
      10. I lie, frequently, about how much money I spend on my dolls.
      11. I am rarely happy with the way a doll comes factory. Only a few of my dolls have been nice enough to stay as is. The rest are all custom.
      12. I was a an artist when I was a younger woman, and I think the dolls have become my new outlet for my artistic urges.
      13. I usually have a tote full of outifts that I don't have dolls for.....yet :)

      1. It's taken four variations, but I'm finally happy with the character I've given to my Luts Lemon.
      2. I've never sold a doll. I've come close, with the Lemon, but since she was a gift I've always been very hesitant to actually sell her.
      3. My favourite is Otakar, my Spiritdoll Lemongrass, but my friends all prefer Hideyasu, my Doll-Love EnEn.
      4. I always thought I would have a very small collection. I didn't like many dolls in the beginning, but slowly fell in love with the Lemon, then the Lemongrass, then the AnAn. But uh now I keep finding dolls I want - I have an actual wishlist and everything!
      5. Subsequently, my collection has doubled this year alone, and I'll be getting a seventh doll before the end of September (curse you discontinuations!)
      6. I think MSDs are the perfect size in terms of ease of sewing and management, but I doubt I'll ever own more than two, because I never find ones I really like.
      7. YoSDs are my favourite size, SDs are my least favourite... except now I'm getting a 65 cm, a 70 cm, and a 73 cm. That's a lotta resin for a tiny Mayhem.
      8. I've always tried to not buy doll clothes because I can usually make something workable on my own. However, I'm getting at least two fullsets for the SDs, because I'm completely in love with them. The fullsets even kind of dictated the characters...
      9. My current six dolls are divided between four worlds. Woops.
      10. My Japanese dolls were supposed to be all YoSDs or smaller. Then I found the perfect SD... He is going to be wildly out of scale. Oh well.
      11. My dolls have pretty elaborate backstories and characters, but the only ones that have written works are my Prague dolls (an in-development horror-romance novel) and my Mercenary's Honour one (a "finished" short story.)
      12. Between my brother and I, we have 13 on-top dolls - 6 of them ordered this summer. We'll have a 14th soon. We... have not been taking part in other hobbies recently.
      13. I absolutely adore my dolls. Even when my BJD-hobby-ness is in hibernation, I love them. Otakar especially helped me through a really rough time a couple years ago, and Vissarion (my en route IslandDoll Veranoen) has been a grail doll due in part to the fact that developing him helped me come to terms with some things about with myself. So even when I'm not actively collecting and working on them, they're actually a pretty big part of my life.

    35. 1.) I try to keep all of my doll names related to birds
2.) i care about dolly heads more than bodies though possibility is up there in importance
3.) All of my dolls are impulse buys yet i dont regret any of them
4.) I like girl bodies more than boys but i think that's due to limited clothing options
5.) I was scared when i bought my first SD but once i saw her it was instant love
6.) although yellow/golden eyes are my fave i cant get my first doll to look good in them! its shame
7.) while i love the steampunk look i cant see any of my girls being able to pull it off
8.) I have 5 bjd's who can wear shoes but only 3 own shoes -_-
9.) the type of resin i like is tn but most companies have a shade i cannot stand so all of my dolls are either white or NS
10.) I got into bjd's while surfing the web for more customization when it came to fashion dolls
11.) 2 of the doll heads I own are from doll in mind and im working on a 3rd (i'm coming for you flowne)
12.) most of my doll names are shortened for example Fairy wren is just shortened to wren ,rose finch swaps between rose and finch
13.) I really dont care about doll crew aesthetic, if i like doll i get it :p

    36. Oh, this is a fun one! Hmm, ok...

      1) My first BJD has an identical (evil) twin that lives 3000 miles away. They look exactly the same (even down to their matching tattoos) except for one arched eyebrow...guess which one has this distinguishing feature..? ;-)

      2) When I moved cross country, I packed all of my dolls so that they would each have a travel buddy.

      3) My collection is primarily sci fi/fantasy inspired - I have elves, vampires, knights, warlocks, consulting detectives, renaissance poets, glam rockers, space captains, and warrior princesses.

      4) The first time I was ever "outed" as a BJD collector was an embarrassing trip through TSA when flying from Portland to Atlanta. The security team asked if my carry-on EID Iplehouse male was a "medical device" because he was anatomically correct.

      5) I keep my BJDs separate from the rest of my doll collection because I don't want any drama.

      6) The first thing I notice about a new sculpt are the hands.

      7) I have way more boys than girls.

      8) I tend to prefer 1/3 scale.

      9) I will often replicate a beloved character in multiple scales - for example, I have a 1/3 and a 1/6 scale Loki.

      10) Every doll I buy is "the last one, I mean it!"

      11) Once a doll has joined the fold at my house, they are a permanent addition. Maybe modified/reborn multiple times, but I can't get rid of them once they've joined the flock. Hence the need to stop adding or get a bigger home. (Leaning towards the latter).

      12) I spend way too much time wondering what will happen to my dolls when I am gone.

      13) After witnessing several shocking reactions from the uninitiated upon being introduced to my BJD world, I am now super picky about who gets to meet my crew. Anybody else have that unfortunate experience..? I am always so surprised and let down when anyone is less than charmed by discovering the existence of this hobby...it used to really bother me, but I've learned to accept that muggles will be muggles...

      Love this thread!

    37. 1) Thranduil was my first BJD and when I bought him I was looking for a toy and hadn't really heard of BJDs...
      2) Iker is a custom sculpt made for me by Namonaki. I have all the casts, and inside his headcap is my name.
      3) Emilio is a flying boy with a heart of gold, but he's a little bit... Um... Dim witted.
      4) Saskia shouldn't have horns. She doesn't in the books, but I liked the sculpt for her, and decided to keep them because I'm pretty sure she would like horns if it was possible to grow some.
      5) Loki has a specially made outfit that I commissioned because there was no way I could make it myself! My sewing skills are not good enough.
      6) Iago is Emilio's ghost. He is three years old and appeared after Emilio almost died. He follows his 'host' around. But...
      7) For some reason, Iago sits on my couch downstairs with Lee and Iker, but he always sits on Iker. I'm not sure why. It's like he's been adopted!
      8) Of my dolls, only Thranduil has a company face up (from Modoll). All the others were given face ups by me. Thranduil is also the only one to wear clothes I made.,
      9) Emilio, Saskia and Lee are on mirodoll bodies. They're floppy and they don't stand well. For some reason, this makes me feel sorry for them!
      10) Iker can represent my character Teo, but he was modelled originally on Iker Casillas, Spain's World Cup winning goalkeeper. I just like his face.
      11) Except for Miss S, who was free from 5 Star Doll, and Iago all my dolls are hybrids. I always pick head sculpts first. Bodies I can figure out later!
      12) All my 1/3 scale dolls wear underwear. Don't know why but it bothers me if they're not wearing any!

    38. 13 Facts about Caelan( my Resinsoul An)

      1. Caelan's name means "slender," "child," and "powerful warrior."
      2. Although Cae's tall and manly looking, he has the heart of a 7 year old, playful and still in the midst of childhood and happy in his innocence.
      3. Cae is a lover of anything cute and girly, which is why Ani appeals to him so much
      4. Caelan's a bit of a neatfreak. He hates to see things out of order, so he's often nagging Ani( to no avail, I might add) to keep their areas tidy with everything in it's place.
      5. Caelan's pretty even-tempered. He has a bit of a laziness when it comes to rising to anger, but when he's mad, he knows how to hold a mean grudge!
      6. Caelan's favorite colors are anything pastel!
      7. In a way, he's kind of insecure when it comes to his height because the first person he liked teased him about being too tall to go out with( note, this was Ani).
      8. His name means "powerful warrior" and it fits. Although he has his insecurities, he is not one to back down from a fight. He's resourceful and persistent that way.
      9. When given the choice between living forever alone and living only a short time, but with someone he loves, Cae would choose the latter. He believes all his time is precious, so to give it to someone he loves means everything.
      10. Caelan loves to cook! His favorite thing to cook is waffles with sausage because its Ani's favorite dish, and he knows Ani appreciates it.
      11. Caelan puts a lot of effort into every relationship he has. He's like a dog in that once he loves you, that loyalty is forever.
      12. Caelan's a bit naive. He tends to see the best in everyone, so he gets decieved often. Luckily, Ani would never let him be taken advantage of, at least not by anyone except Ani.
13.Caelan is a trust fund baby and reckless when it comes to money. He likes what he likes and will buy whatever he feels he needs in the moment he sees it, which is why Ani's in charge of the banking info, and not Caelan.

    39. This is a really fun idea!

      1. My first doll is a Doll Love Kaja, and while I love supernatural characters and stories instead of making him a vampire (since he's a vampire sculpt) I ended up making him a cat boy looking fallen angel instead.

      2. I was terrified to even let my doll near a window for the longest time. For reference, my window is facing the bottom of a hill, so I rarely get direct sunlight. But after taking him outside for a quick daytime photo session, it was like that fear disappeared.

      3. Since getting over my fear of my doll leaving his shelf, he has gone with my to an anime convention I worked Artist Ally for, a book store, a sushi restaurant and a sweets shop. He's itching for a new adventure as I type.

      4. I love creating characters and writing but I've have to wait until actually meeting the doll in person to know their names. The exception to this rule is a character I created who I am saving up to shell into a sculpt I found to suit him.

      5. I prefer male character creation but have found it harder to find male msd sculpts that I don't think look to babyish, so I have less dolls than I thought I would at this point in the hobby.

      6. I prefer 1/4 (msd) size dolls because I'm slight and worry about dropping a larger doll or losing a smaller one. I got lucky considering my first doll was an msd and I fell in love.

      7. I have a character named Adrian who I've had planned out even before my first doll arrived. He has a wig I commissioned for him already as well as a pair of slim jeans yet I have no idea when I'll be able to afford the doll to shell his character out.

      8. Before my first doll arrived, I made him a bed, comforter and pillow as well as buying him a clothing chest for the foot of his bed. He spends a lot of time sitting in bed these days, and it ended up being his precise size despite me not having him as a reference for the making process. Yay for vague numbers and actual size rulers on the computer to put your pillow bed up against in comparison.

      9. Hibiki's must have accessory is a yellow wristband that I made him using a small scale weaving method I made up one day when I was sick in bed and bored.

      10. I originally drew Hibiki having bright baby blue eyes which I had fully intended on buying if I didn't like the random eyes that he came with. His eyes are black sclera with red iris and black pupil which could not be more opposite, yet suit him so well that they altered his character itself.

      11. Both of my dolls arrived around Christmastime despite being ordered two very different times. Both were also shipped out from MintOnCard on the 16th of their respective months.
Hibiki was ordered in June, shipped out on Dec.16 and arrived Dec.19.
My unknown mystery doll was ordered in October, Shipped out Nov. 16 and arrived Nov. 17 (to be a Christmas present)

      12. I have such a weak spot for Crobidoll but I don't actually have a Grail doll.
The only doll I even have plans for getting is a Doll Leaves Maya and that's just because he's the doll who will suit my character Adrian the most. I admire a lot of dolls but have yet to get so attached to a sculpt I felt I could not live without owning them.

      13. I have a soft spot for natural colored doll eyes and have been working hard to find the perfect pair of brown eyes that don't look black in photographs.

    40. 13 facts of my collection. Here we go....

      1. I currently own 45 dolls (3 are OT for DoA, 2 due to lack of joints & 1 Obitsu) from 27 different companies ranging in size from 5cm to 70cm and is a mix of new (30 dolls) and 2nd hand (15 dolls). For some of my dolls, 2nd hand is the only way I was able to get my hands on the dolls I wanted.

      2. 31 of them are either limited, discontinued or the companies have vanished. Some fit in more than one of those categories.

      3. I have only 2 sets of the same sculpts because they are twins and I bought them together to be twins. However, both sets of twins are not identical in that the sculpts are noticeably different colours. RS Bao in WS & Dark Grey and Batchix Clever Littles in seafoam green glitter and light purple glitter (they're artist casts).

      4. I have been given 3 dolls as gifts over the years by my bestest dolly friend (I've given her dolls as gifts, too) and I won a fullset limited doll in a charity raffle.

      5. I have a serious weakness for coloured resin. I have 7 grey, 1 black (and 1 WS dyed black), 1 red, 3 green, 1 purple, 2 blue (1 is translucent blue), 2 tan (1 light, 1 dark) and 1 gold (cyborg body only, upper torso/head/arms are WS). I also have WS and NY dolls but no NP although I do have a peach skin (it looks like a NY to me *shrugs*).

      6. My dolls are all characters from the novels I write and represent 3 very different worlds; Big Mystic Smoke, The Dream Time and Divine Worship. Big Mystic Smoke is set in modern Toronto/GTA with a twist of the supernatural to the stories there. Most of the dolls in this world are from one family/story. The Dream Time is set in the future in a galaxy far away from ours. Most of the characters are Awh'anise or are the partner to an Awh'anise. All are created species of mine. Divine Worship is set sometime in the distant past and is mostly gods and their lovers. Out of 45 dolls, only 1 is human. All the rest are some type of fantasy creature or a created species of mine.

      7. I don't have any girl dolls nor do I ever expect to own any. I can admire them but there has never been a desire to own one.

      8. I have never sold a doll and have been in this hobby for 9 years. Dolls enter my house. They do not leave.

      9. I bring dolls to work on a fairly regular basis. This includes lugging a 70cm doll along and sitting him down on my desk so I can admire the pretty while I work. My bosses are cool with that because my work place is awesome. My wallpaper on my computer at work is also a picture of my dolls that I rotate out for other doll pics every now and again.

      10. I own only 5 hybrids... if you can call them that. 3 have just a single arm that isn't from their company as the hybrid part and 2 of those are mecha arms. The other one has an event arm, but I'm planning to do some additive mods to his original arm and put that back on him instead of the event arm (the magnet hand of the event arm dives me nuts). 1 has hands from another company and 1 has lower legs from another company modded to fit into his default knee joint.

      11. It is extremely rare for me to change a dolls eyes or wig. I will upgrade a wig or replace a wig if it's gotten ratty, but it'll be in the same style/colour as the previous one (or as close as I can get it). Same goes for the eyes. I might change the size (up/down) or change the shade slightly (lighter/darker) but generally the eyes/wig remain unchanged from the time they enter my house. There are a few exceptions, of course, as some dolls are just tough to find the right eye/wig that is them. But once I do find it, it doesn't change again.

      12. Almost all my boys have long hair or hair that is at least to their shoulders. 2 of them have hair that is ankle-length (and those are tangle magnets!). I have black, red, brown, grey, white, blue, green, pink, purple, orange and multi-coloured hair for my guys and 1 lone blonde (I don't like blondes but his hair is rooted). 2 don't have hair as their sculpt doesn't allow for it (fin on head, flower-type head).

      13. The head that I got with my very first doll finally got a body 8 years and 2 days from when the head arrived at my house. Not only that, the body was from the same company (AoD) in the old muscular style AND in tan (which AoD stopped doing several years ago). Further to that, I bought the body while on vacation in the US from a lady who happened to live in the same city I was visiting and I was able to pick the body up from her before I flew back home 1 day later.
