Hi friends! I'm looking for two sculpts to become a set of (fraternal) twins. Originally, I considered a single sculpt that's androgynous enough that I could buy two of the same head, and then by putting them in the correct gender bodies, wig, and faceup they'd look distinctly gendered. I'm still on the fence about this idea because I'm worried they might look too identical instead of the fraternal twins they are meant to be. I'm having a bit of trouble, so I thought I'd ask you guys! Do you think they'd look too similar following my original idea? If so, can you suggest any sculpts that would look related but not identical? Thanks in advance!
From what I've seen, different faceups and wigs (and even eyes) can make the same sculpt look completely different! So if you find one head sculpt you like, I think you wouldn't have any trouble differentiating the characters. If you want two sculpts, it seems to me that many companies have a pretty distinct style (Fairyland, Soom, Huajing, etc.) so any two of their designs would probably resemble each other without being identical. If you can pick a particular feature, such as face shape, eye shape, or nose shape, and make sure they are similar across both sculpts that might help to make decisions. For other people offering suggestions, it might help to describe what you are looking for beyond 1/4 - such as resin colors available, specific heights, face shape, eye shape, etc.
These dolls are very much on the mature side, but many of the Raccoon Doll girls do seem to have a “brother” sculpt. For example, the doll in my avatar, Kyrie, has a doll that looks like his sister named Rose.
Thank you! That was the original idea, I was just second guessing myself These characters also come from a culture that wears face paint with markings that signal marital status, occupation, ECT so a lot of their faces would be covered anyway. Maybe I will look back into this. Thank you!
Ohhhh, Raccoon Doll looks lovely. I'll have to look more closely at their lineup and see who looks good. Thank you!!
Gem of Doll has several dolls that come in "pairs" - some have faces that are not so similar but some could definitely pass as twins. Many dolls also have a sleeping or dreamy head version, so mixing and matching those gives some variation while still retaining similar traits.
Oh this is a great idea! Mixing normal and dreamy faces could work great. Also I just looked at Gem of Doll on Alice's Collections and I think I may have found two sculpts that could work pretty well! They look similar but not too similar so it's perfect. I might just go with Nymph and Polax.
Nymph and Polax are cute! I especially like Polax's pointed little nose! Alice's Collection is a great place to see a lot of sculpts in one place. Even though I've never ordered a doll from them, I often go there to compare bodies in the same scale, etc. I hope that whatever you decide for your sibling set, all your plans will work out
I own two Bimong Narae heads, one that has open eyes and one that originally had closed eyes (now modded to be open), who I’m making into a brother and sister
As a aunt to two fraternal twins (bolth boys tho) you honestly could do any sculpts that look like they're about the same age and related. fraternal twins come in all shapes and sizes and can look pretty different due to the way various genes express in the different embryos. Id look for sculpts that have somewhat similar aspects of the face ( eg. noses, corners of the eyes, ears ect) but not worry to much about having all those aspects match
I don't know what style or aesthetic of sculpt you have in mind, but I know CP/Fairyland intended all versions of Lishe and El to be siblings/twins and they definitely look it!
Souldoll has both a male and female version of Rudy, and it’s not the same head sculpt! Boy Rudy’s eyes are smaller and his face is slightly more angular where the girl version is a bit softer and has larger eyes. They otherwise look very much alike, brother and sister for sure! Rudy - boy version Rudy - girl version That aside, I think so long as sculpts are from the same company and have the similar features, they could easily come across as fraternal twins.
