Hello Everyone! This year at Doll North 2014, an annual doll convention in Toronto, ON, the staff decided we wanted to do something really special for our attendees. So we approached our favourite Ramen house, Kinton Ramen and asked if we could use their likeness to create a 'mini Kinton' photo set for attendees to pose their dolls in for pictures at our events. They said yes, so our dedicated woodworker (my Hubby) got to work creating this 1/3 scale photo set/diorama. He worked incredibly hard and logged in over 200 hrs of labor over three months to finish the set in time for the con. Last night he completed his last piece, so we can now reveal it to everyone! Everything on this set is hand made by my Husband, excluding a few decorative items (the tiny alcohol bottles, the ramen bowls and the large vases) - and his attention to detail is flawless. The bowls of ramen look good enough to eat! Bonus facts: There are over 900 individual squares of wood on the 'signature' Kinton wall, and over 200 pieces of wood make up the hardwood floor! The ramen noodles in the bowls are actual cooked and dried Mr. Noodle, the nori squares are real and the pork, eggs and broth were all hand-sculpted out of Sculpy and then painted with acrylics. Plus, all the stones around the bar were glued on one-by-one. Now that's dedication! We hope you enjoy our set and even get ideas for your own! We can't wait to see all the amazing photos our attendees will be taking this weekend!
That turned out incredible! Your husband gets major props for all the work and details. (/badpun) Makes me wish I could go to Doll North and play with it. What's going to happen to the set once the convention's done?
That is a fantastic piece. I am amazed by it. I do my own dollaramas and that is just over the top fabulous. Wow. I just love it. What a wonderful idea also so that everyone could take photos of their dolls. I think he has a talent there that would bring him some serious green.
The whole thing looks wonderful and the attention to details is amazing! The calligraphy and menu bring such a degree of realism. My dolls totally want to go there and get some ramen!
*screams* This is amazing! Every detail is so delicately rendered, from the ramen to the walls, it takes my breath away. I've always wanted to make a 1/3 scale diorama, but that felt like so daunting a task... I need a good husband like you to help me. xD Here's to a job well done! *cheers*
Oh my goodness, this is amazing! I wish I'd be there to see it in person; it's an incredible piece of work, and a testament to your husband's skill and dedication.
