Props 1:3 Doll Room in Dining Room!

Dec 26, 2022

    1. Edit: I removed the progress photos due to amount of items I am adding. Please look for my tutorials if you would like to know how to make what I made!!;)

      Welcome to my Project Journal!!

Summer 2021, I was going to own just one doll... At the end of 2022 I'm already with this much dolls and wanting a diorama:doh:drool

I have three little kids and two large cats. My youngest is 22 months old. So I don't have my own hobby room. I can't keep anything within my youngest daughter's reach. Deep diorama allows my cats room to hop on. I came up with a solution to organize dining room where I've already been using to display (on bookshelf) and make room on top of a large console I have. For furniture, I only have a victorian sofa. I migrated all my dolls and most props to the console, but I really want something like mantlepiece and desk. Seems like the only potion to acquire 1:3 fireplace is to make one:nosebleed I did a lot of Google research and learned some methods to try. Here is the designated diorama in progress with a fireplace base I made with cardboard.

I could cover the entire fireplace without spending a penny !:D I first finished the windowed wall and used the scrap foam board to made brick. I pealed the paper on surface of the board, cut into bricks and scratched off the edges with my nails as I stuck the bricks. I added more textures using squished tin foil afterward.
      This is the final look.

      Happy New Year!!
I had my 24 hours of non-emergency alone time for first time ever in 10 years!! I did not plan to do this but I impromptuly made a bookcase since 1) I can't find readymade product or kit 2) I don't know when I can be alone for this amount of time without worry and rush. (I have three little kids and two cats)

      Update 7 Feb 2023

The 1/3 desk with chair arrived a while ago. I am at making of 1:96(?) scale dollhouse for my dolls at the moment. Will be adding new wall with foam board and chandelier with bracket or plant hanger mounted on the wall.

      =======================
Putting up foam board wall was a big fail!! It fell between the wall and the console I built the room on:o:o:o I'm gonna keep the boards for traveling and put up the same wrappping paper directly on the wall with mounting patty. I hope I can find more suitable wallpaper soon, as well as backdrops.

      12 March, 2023

As much as I love the doll room wide open in dining room, I started to have problem with sunlight. The sun altitude began to raise and hot spot and strong indirect light was moving toward my dolls much sooner than I anticipated:aeyepop::aeyepop::aeyepop::aeyepop:
A while ago I saw someone sharing photos of doll room made of IKEA wardrobe. I didn't really think about getting one for myself since the modern design wasn't my cup of tea, however...... This sun problem and my humble tax return made me decide to acquire one for myself... Yeah, I literally decided to build a dollhouse. I purchased one with a lot of depth and doors. I chose curbside pickup to save $106 shipping fee. Then.... I found they hold the order only for 24 hours. So I drove almost 2 hours to the closest IKEA next day (two days ago) They gave me a voucher for free entree at their foodcourt and I came out with furniture costed much more than shipping fee. LOL
At any last, here is how it turned out so far. I am going to decorate both interior and exterior to make it look more homie, antique, and whimsical:3nodding:

    8. I LOVE this! I bet you'll be able to get some great vintage looking photos. I have two littles myself so this gives me hope that I can work on a diorama. Do you mind if I ask what to look up to find furry BJD pets like your fox? I see so many people have them but I haven't had any luck.

    9. @spenceriferous I know the struggle! the artists I was looking at on Etsy are gone due to the war situation. :pout: My fox is from Paws & Tails UA, IG is @pawsandtails.ua. Not sure if she takes commission. Her works are usually much bigger. Maybe worth inquiring:)

    10. It's looking so lovely! Your fireplace is absolutely incredible, I love it <3 <3 <3

    12. Wow!!! Your diorama looks impressive and so cozy!! Your dolls also look stunning too. I like the look of the new dollhouse, and love that it has doors that you can close too. Can't wait to see what else you do with it! (A 1:3 dollhouse display is sounds like the dream for me haha, I absolutely don't have room, but your setup is giving me some ideas! :XD:)

    13. That fireplace is so amazing, wow!!!
1/3 dioramas are so hard to do, but also a dream of mine as well. This is such inspiration :D (and I have the same desk/chair set haha... also planning to set it up inside a cabinet)

    14. What a cozy setup you've made! The textures on the fireplace are downright gorgeous. All of the details and miniature items really add to the realism, and the pictures taken in the diorama are super cute.
