I think I can call him "finished" now Here's my first ever resin cast! He is on a Mirodoll 68cm body and is wearing 12mm eyes. Hope you like him! Wow, he looks really cool! I love his nose and lips. Did you do the casting yourself? Did you just make him for you or to sell?
@Glyndon Haha, thanks! "Alarmingly" sounds dangerous …:XD @Sicktress Thank you! His nose and lips have changed a couple of times during the sculpting process, and I came back to leaving them a little undefined to give this head more possibilities. Yes, I did the casting myself. I am quite surprised how well it went. And it was quite fun, too! Selling … well, if people are interested to have him and are willling to live with his imperfections, I might do a little artist cast edition. The head is not perfect, and the resin copies I can do myself will have flaws. But it's a cute head, and I'd love to see what others will do with him.
I definitely think people would be interested in buying him. If only he was MSD sized, though, because he'd be perfect for the headless body I have. xD
He has a very unique and special aura. I love his expression and mouth! ♥ I think he could also work as a girl, which is great. I'm pretty sure there would be interested buyers if you were to offer your Gremlin for sale. I personally love this face, too bad I don't have a character for it... Well, at least of yet. ;D
Thank you, DromosMata! It's strange, you're nit the only one wishing he was MSD size. ^^ I only own one MSD myself, a cue and childlike boy, so it's hard for me to imagine this rather mature face on a small body. SD seems to be my preferred size, but I'd also like to sculpt smaller dolls in the future. Thank you, tekkonkinkreet! I have asked the moderators on DoA if I may post his pictures in the gallery to see if people are interested, but haven't got a reply yet. This head makes a cool girl character. It's also not too big for smaller bodies. Here it is with a Mirodoll 60 cm body. has not having a character ever been a sufficient reason for not buying a doll? I would also be very interested in learning about artists casts of this head. Anyone here, well, we all know how to work with home-cast imperfections. [He would look amazing grouped with my Little Rebel boys!]
Hi Glyndon, I have cast a second head which turned out better than the first. Not sure if it can get any better than this. There are a few bubbles on the edge of the head and very tiny ones behind the ears. The headcap is not a perfect fit (my original sculpt wasn't so great) (Little Rebel dolls rock. Love their characteristic faces.) Here he is - blank with 12 mm eyes. Gremlin - blank head by Evie ex Machina, on Flickr
You know you did well when he's just as handsome blank! For serious, if you are looking to adopt any out into the world, sent me a message. He would be a joy to paint.
I want to see photos of the others! I would love to see what he can become in other hands. Aside from my boy, obviously.
Me too! Two heads are staying with me for faceups, so you'll definitely get to see those. I'll ask the other buyers to post their dolls or send me photos to post on my Tumblr. Your boy looked really cute in the photo you posted on Tumblr!
Oh dear, I wasn't aware of the new comments on this thread … I cast only 6 copies of this head at home and sold them only to people I know. The actual face sculpt looks good, but my head cap construction didn't work out so well, and home casting without a vacuum chamber is really tricky. Love my moody boy though … His name is Shay.
