☆~~ Granado Doll Discussion Part 17 ~~☆

Feb 2, 2018

    1. I saw this earlier on Granado's FB page. These recasters are scum.

    2. I shared this to my local Facebook group. This makes me so angry, I don't even have words.

    3. Lucky Bags ? :aeyepop:

Sad we can't choose between Vindoll or Resin...
but beside that it's rather intriguing :wiggle

    4. Granado so likes to tempt my wallet. It's not fair, I tell you!

      • x 1
    5. I took a chance on the lucky bag. Wondering whose head I'll get, any of them would be wonderful.

    6. Do you own both resin and vindoll @SteamWitch ?
The only thing stopping me from getting a lucky bag is the fear of paying for a Vindoll head I won't get to use because I do not have a body...

    7. A guy in my local group has a Vindoll and he's just gorgeous and so light compared to resin. I'm probably not helping....

    8. Yes, I have a Vindoll, he is bronze though and the heads they are sending out are white or normal. I do have a normal Hansel that I am using on a Vindoll skeleton I bought secondhand. He is going to be a steampunk robot, with an art deco ivory head. Sooooo I am hoping I get a resin head and like everyone else hoping for a grand prize bag, lol.

    9. Oh wow, I hope you'll be posting pictures of him once he's done!
Heck, even while you're working on it :D

    10. @GreenTeaSlug I think that was just the prototype that looked that way. I haven't seen any translucent resin from Granado.

      • x 1
    11. @SteamWitch thank you for easing my doubts, I know many love french resin but I prefer the solid look over it lol

btw congratulations on ordering the smaller Napoleons ! I love his face

    12. I've been on the fence about joining the crowdfund.
On the one hand, that body is 110% my jam, on the other, idk what Granado resin matches well enough to justify a floating body that may or may not work for the characters I still want to shell, and I'm really not a fan of the Jane head. But then again, tall girl bodies seem to be becoming an endangered species and I've got some floating heads that need shoulders, so there's also that consideration...

      • x 1
    13. @Girrl lol Im not a big fan of the Jane head either :P I love their male dolls because they look very realistic, but their female dolls have that unrealistic style that I dont think matches them too well

Im joining because I want that body - it looks amazing, looks similar to the dollstown 18 but a big improvement in my opinion because the knee and the jointing system is very good. Im not going to pass on that and then lose the possibility of getting that body, the only other body as tall and waify that I know is dollmore model, but the measurements of that body, is not as hybrid friendly as this one is

Im going to get normal since its close to dollshe oriental, which is easier to hybrid. I might ask for a custom resin matching though, just to be sure, since they do offer it. Im going to use it for an Iplehouse head :)
      Granado

    14. those are all excellent points. :| Damn it.
can anyone supply any resin comparison pictures for Impldoll?

    15. The lucky bag sounds fun but I too worry about getting a resin head since I only have a vindoll in tan.

      • x 1
    16. I asked them if there was a way we could choose between Resin-bags and Vindoll-bags, and they answered by the negative. :(

    17. We could have a Swap thread in the MP in case there are non-vindoll owners getting vindoll heads or visa versa. :wiggle

      • x 3
    18. A swap would be fun to do. So tempted so tempted,

Ugh, I wish that I could afford to order a lucky bag.

    19. I spied a Raguel in the Lucky Bag batch of heads on Granado's IG but I can't see the inside of the neck to tell if he is vinyl or resin. :...(

    20. I am thinking about the crowfunding, but it seems like there is not too lot love for the 60cm jane,,,:...( I just don't like the head, it's so lifeless not like their boys. But it's ok if I must buy a head from other company, I am totally hybrid friendly. At last female embody is the body I was looking for, so it's a must have. And of course I just want a Granado doll for a long time.:love

    21. I dont think 67 is going to be made, I asked how many more backers are needed for that body and I was told 4 more to be successful, which means I was the only one interested enough in it lol

Not disappointed but Ive prepared myself that its probably a no go.
Did some researching and the foot size will be very difficult to find shoes or even high heels because of the arch and length.
I did suggest resin heels like some companies are doing, and making the resin high heel (the heel molded on) as an optional part and they said they would think about it, its nice they do consider suggestions :)

Im thinking that small dolls are more popular like Popovy, Natalia and the FID dolls, but I dont like how the wigs, clothes and eyes look on the smaller dolls because finding the good (to me) stuff is too limited, expensive, custom, commission or difficult to buy when compared to the bigger dolls with almost everything easier to buy

Does anyone know how Granado normal is compared to iplehouse white/dollshe fresh/ringdoll normal?
I found some comparison of Granado new normal and iplehouse normal and the granado head is a lot paler than iplehouse normal, so I think it might be better to hybrid granado normal to iple house white

      • x 2
    22. @SteamWitch should have known the Granado Queen would be able to help me :)

He looks amazing and the hybrid looks so much nicer! Ringdoll normal is an almost exact match to Iplehouse white and Dollshe Fresh, so that is good to know for a good hybrid for me

Thank you for the help and the hybrid looks great, muscular but not as swole as the default Granado bodies, it looks natural :)

    23. Yeah, I really like the look for my character and the resin match is great. Nox is an orphan left at the door of an orphanage, the dragon tattoo is a nod to a heritage he never knew. He has clairvoyance and other ESP talents but has never found out anything about his parents.

    24. I'm with you on the size preference, I absolutely abhor crafting things at that scale.
D'you think it's worth it to jump on the 67cm crowdfund at this point? I was going to sit it out, since I just bought a couch and it wouldn't be super financially responsible to immediately make another big purchase (lookkit me, acting Like An Adult), but I also just got home from working my 2nd 12hr day this week, so.....

    25. @Girrl if I was in your place, I wouldnt do it

The 67 is nice, but I really believe that if it was meant to be made, it will be. Im sure the crowdfund thing is only to see interest plus Ive seen the other sizes offered for Napoleon and Lucifer that were not successful in their crowdfund, so I think eventually we will be able to order it if they want to produce it

Another thing is that the measurements are not 100%, they told me its approximate size, and after getting Enoch head, I think Granado tends to run small so Im thinking the final product might be thinner/smaller than the estimates, which might make hybriding difficult because the measurements as is, is great but not guaranteed

Plus you worked hard, that extra money on the side might be needed for more urgent things so it is better to have that safety net than join a crowdfund that is not guaranteed. I feel it is so easy in this hobby to spend spend spend, so many offers, so many limited items and limited ordering periods that it tricks the mind to think of it like its a necessity, that you will miss out.

Its dolls, there will always be more, there will always be new things, new companys and technology. The ones you have are already impressive and click with you, its not a bad thing to skip or miss on a "maybe" until more solid information is out and something that clicks immediately <3

    26. Excellent advice @GreenTeaSlug

It's very true that sometimes it seems like all the doll companies are out to drain your wallet with special edition this or limited that. The 2nd hand market can be a very viable thing if your direct purchase option can't be made. I've gotten quite a few of my limited dolls and even both my grails that way although it can take literally years for that to happen (7 years in my case to find & purchase my grails).

I have a crowdfund Lucifer. He was originally listed as being 55cm (if I'm remembering correctly) but measures out as 53cm so I'd definitely say the measurements are an estimate, which makes perfect sense since the crowdfund is to judge interest in a size and the actual doll hasn't been physically sculpted yet. Or at least I don't think it has.

    27. that's some incredibly sound advice, and it would have done me a world of good to have gotten it 10 years ago;)
un/fortunately I work in a field where there's always going to be overtime, whether I want it or not, so there's always that

    28. @LuckyXIII Oh! I like that you put him on the Lads body! He is amazing.

I added up the workdays and holidays and the first week of August is the earliest the Lucky bags will be shipped. It's going to be a long summer.:horror::eek:
I have only one doll incoming, the 43 Napoleon, the last BJD. Nothing else is ordered or expected. :o

    29. Please keep me updated on how the lucky bag turns out! Like many of you, I am also tempted to get one myself, but I only own a Vindoll in tan... Hopefully someone will be selling the heads in the MP? I love all of Granado's boy sculpts, but they are quite pricy!

    30. I'm feelin' lucky, so I decided to order a lucky bag! :) I'm already dying to know what I'll get. 50 days is going to feel like a long, long time.

    31. Just dropping by to share one of the Father's Day photos of my hybrid Granado Michael (here shown with his daughter, an Iplehouse JID Violet). :D

    32. Father's day? Isn't that in September though? O.o
Either way, they look very sweet together. <3

    33. It's this Sunday in our country (the Philippines). :D So it's different dependin on country, thanks for the heads' up! :P

    34. Father's day is today (Sunday June 16) here in Canada.

    35. Ooh ok it's the first of September down here in Australia. Weird. I wonder why we're different?
Anyway, keeping on topic with a new photo of Iwan! Poor guy's been rather neglected of late, but he's on my list for face up/blushing maintenance and I'm thinking of commissioning a couple of items of clothing and accessories for him a little later in the year. Perhaps after tax time if I have leftovers from getting my car serviced.

    36. @Quiet and Insane Huh. weird. Mother's Day was last month here in Canada. For us, the first Monday in September is Labour Day (it's a bit of a floating holiday as it could be anything from the 1st to the 7th day). Come to think of it, I think we also celebrate different days for Queen Victoria's b'day. We do May 24th for her b'day here in Canada.

    37. I'm curious, since I haven't seen any discussion of him, has anyone else ordered Claude from Granado?

    38. @Iron_Dog - Mother's day is the second sunday in May for us down here, and Labour day is usually early March for us...that's the start of the Moomba festival, and the Queen's birthday was literally just last Monday. Though we celebrate for the current Queen. We don't bother with Victoria anymore.

@mosaicwolf - I don't think so? Perhaps check in the waiting room?

    39. I ordered a lucky bag! I haven't ordered any kind of lucky bag since I got all the really crappy ones from Dollheart ages ago. It is exciting and terrifying.

      • x 1
    40. I did too! I am following the IG posts about the event and don't recognize the last secret head he posted; is it really a new sculpt????

    41. I think so? It seemed that way from their twitter post. I literally found out about this yesterday, I have not been paying attention to BJD news lately! I wouldn't have even bought one except I have a body it can go on, and it might be fun to get a surprise doll and make up a character for it. Crossing my fingers the head is resin and NS or WS lol. It'll be hard to blush it to match otherwise!

    42. @VampireAngel13 I believe the lucky bag heads are only in NS or WS, even the vinyl ones. We are going to have a MP Swap thread when we start getting them so if luck wasn't good for you, it might be for another.

      • x 1
    43. Oh good! I sort of only glanced through the rules or whatever and saw that you can't request a resin color, so I thought that meant any color could be in the bag.

    44. Ooh good luck to both of you!

    45. The lucky bag is so tempting. But I don't need more floating heads in-house despite how pretty they are. But so tempting....

    46. I updated the Wait list with the last few months added to it. You can enter your updates now. It seems not everyone likes the new format.

    47. I think he and the other prototype are just early releases at this point. I did see them post a teaser for his two face ups...somewhere.

      • x 1
    48. I finally decided to skip on the luck bags.
      I can't budget a 200$ doll lottery right now.

I know the content it worth more than that, but I can't take the risk of not being able to use it if it's the wrong type.
      :(

    49. @fishcake Im very happy that you are excited about her <3

When they did the crowdfunding for the 67, I was the only perspn who joined so they only produced the smaller versions and refunded my crowdfund. I did let them know by message boards that many are interested, but the timing (there were a lot of spring events, really good ones) AND because it was a prototype so the measurements were not guaranteed so they told me that they were happy I let them know this because Crocus was a bit sad at the reception of her.

I love the bodies of the fashion model dolls like PashaPasha and Popovy etc, Jane seems to have the proportions but the aesthetic of the traditional BJD which I like. I am not a fan of the 1/4 size or the small SD, so this for me is nice, plus she can be in the same world of my Iplehouses and LLT's :)

It was better for them to produce the larger prototype than measurement estimations, because the measurements of the one produced and offered now is different than the one on the crowdfund guesstimates, granted 65 wasnt an option (67 was) and the shoulder is much narrower than I expected so Im not sure if she is as hybrid friendly now but I like Jane anyway, so I will see how it works out

I also am not so sure on the heel feet. In the pictures, it looks like the shoe is stretched to fit her (because when she is standing, the heel is pointing towards her toes instead of being straight, so the foot is stretching out the arch part of the shoe. So maybe the heel foot was just enlarged from the original prototype, and not modeled on actual heels made for dolls already available. I originally requested they make high heel shoe "feet" like Soom has for their dolls, but they said they would consider it.

I would have really loved it if they gave her the foot arch like the Volks SD16/SDgrG ladies so she could fit in many of the shoes available in the market. Love the dollstown sculpts, but the difficulty in finding shoes is what turned me off getting one. Plus the ankle design, doesnt seem like it would work in helping the foot lean backwards or front to fit in some heel types so it feels limiting to me. Im not sure if I should bring that up to them or just mind my own business. Everything else though, Im very happy about.

Will you be getting one? Is anyone else joining the preorder?

Im a bit relieved to see some excitement for her, because I dislike relaying messages to artists and then when time comes, there arent much sales..... makes it feel like I tricked them.

If you want to see how the bust sizes and hand options look, in another view, you can see them better here on her original crowdfund page
      Jane Crowdfunding

    50. I'm getting her head for sure...I have no money to get her as a full doll at the moment, but the heads are limited and hopefully the body is not :D To be honest I am really curious about her stringing, since Granado has always had unusual stringing patterns XD
      Thank you for the link!!

    51. Oh she has conventional hip slots!! Oh dear I may have to do layaway.:D That makes the dolls so much easier to deal with.

    52. I like Jane a lot, but I am only buying parts to finish dolls I have from now on. I have been saying that all year and so far I'm good!
I am curious as to when the lucky bags will start to ship however....
