☆~~ Granado Doll Discussion Part 12 ~~☆

Oct 30, 2015

    1. Is one method more durable than the other?

    2. Not that I know of. I have both types and can't tell much of a difference. Some prefer the hidden strings, Iple gave their EID line a makeover a while ago changing the stringing from visible to invisible, but while they did make sure the new line posed better than the old one, I don't think the stringing changed much by itself.

    3. Thanks for the awesome info and insight Jany!

    4. Oh... I hadn't thought about the stringing making a difference before! So do the non-slot dolls have the stringing going from leg to leg instead of running up through the body to the neck? Most all my dolls are strong the latter way... Does it make posing different?

    5. @april Oh yes it does--the old "slots in the front" make all standing poses much easier, having the right tension easier, and a wider range of leg motions.
If the slots are in the inside of the thigh, there needs to be either a cut at the top of the thigh slot to allow the string to swivel forward (like on AS and Impldoll bodies) or the strings have to cross each other at a pivot point inside the center of the pelvis. The advantage to this is that the dolls don't snap backwards when they sit, because the x point acts as a "stop" on the tension of the string, though this can give you loose legs and a tight head/upper body. The straight stringing needs the tops of the leg pieces to have a resin stop to keep them sitting up, and if you have Soom dolls from before 2012 you know that doesn't always work.;)

    6. Really? I honestly couldn't have said, mine are pretty much equal ... it depends on the company, I guess. A good dolly engineer can make either method work.
Then again, mine's strings don't go from one leg into the other but cross and go all the way up, so that might be why they stand well.

    7. You are exactly right about the engineering--the size and shape of the center hole makes a huge difference.

    8. I hate it when the stings go from one leg to the other -.- It ruins the body blance of most dolls I've head. I prefer the stringing going from head through neck, torso down into each leg and back up. It also helps when the body-tention is wearing out, as shortening string is easier. Also the whole stringing allows me to easier make sure that both legs are stringed with the same kind of tension.

My nuevo girl body for Katrien was strung from leg to leg. I had my dad help me drill holes into the hip part so I could make it go through to the neck. WAY better stability for the whole body (upper body mainly) and better tension and position holding on the legs.

But as I always say: You can get used to nearly everything and learn how to manipulate them best.

... Doesn't mean I have to thought XP

But yes, it's mainly an engineering thing. I love Granado's posability, but the best poser bodies in my oppinion are the ones from Loongsoul :3

    9. Most all my dolls are older and are strung with legs going up through the body. I'll have to check to see how the newer dolls are strung... although I guess if I'm not bothered by them, I really don't NEED to know (since I never re-string anything, especially). But this is all interesting to know.

I think the doll companies should make sure to say what stringing methods they use, if it makes a difference... But then there's a lot of things that should be said when buying dolls... like if it's a new resin recipe that hasn't been tested very long! Or if a sculpt has teeth or pointy ears or has features you can't see in the photos, like an unusual profile, or only a very basically sculpted private region or whatever people need to know when deciding to buy... they need to definitely show views of the head without faceup (which Granado does, but many others companies do not).

    11. Ah, pretty pirate boy! :D

    12. Oooh... got emailed shipping notice for my Neptune in sunshine with no-beard faceup... and clothing! I wonder how long it will take? The waiting seems to be especially long right at the end...

      • x 2

    13. Congratulations. So exciting. Love this skin tone on him, but i ordered Neptune in normal skin. Still waiting on the shipping notice. Hope not much longer.

    14. Ooh, that's exciting april and suok2011!

    15. I found an EID pattern for pants I had made for a friend's doll about a year ago, I think and decided to make boxer shorts for my incoming Evo.Uranus -^^-
Yes. James is shipped. (For all those who haven't read my outcry in the waiting room)

I'm totally not stalking his progress....
Thought he should soon enter my country...

    19. WOW!!!! He is handsome. Congratulations on his fast arrival. Love your photography.

    20. @aernath-- Ooooh! Your Neptune arrived! and already all dressed and outside getting photos taken! :D

      He looks great!!! (Of course!)

Love the faceup. Great wig, too. He's looking amazing!

--Mine should be arriving... Maybe Monday... depends how long Customs keeps him... and the weekend drags matters out a bit!

    21. @aernath Woha. Look at Ron. Already working hard to make girls swoon ;)
      Congrats again :D

Unfortunatley I don't think James will be quite that fast. I'm guessing he'll reach the airport today or tomorrow and then spend a day at customs. Hopefully the next day I'll have my piece of paper to fill out and e-mail back and the one in charge will finish up and send him along. Soooo.... Wednesday most likely. Unless for some reason they'd pass him right on. Doubtful but not impossible.

    22. Just checked tracking again-- and my Neptune spent only 2 hours in Customs!

    23. @aernath -Oooh! Awesome! Hello there, Ron. He looks very nice in blue.

@april -Nice! The boys are just flying in! Be sure to post photos when he makes his grand entrance.

    24. So excited to see all new boys. My order is still in "progress".

    25. *deep breath*
I just placed my order for a Uranus with the new EVOL body! :dance:dance:dance:dance:dance

    26. @sno4wy -- I'm sure you will like him! Grando boys are very handsome! :D

So... it took a couple of days shipping from China to L.A.--SO FAST! Wow. It helped that I left a note for my postman to stay and ring the bell BECAUSE I WAS HOME!!! (They often seem to just knock quickly and run and leave a note--I swear, I'm ALWAYS home and I still never hear them!)

I did a Box Opening here--

    27. @aernath - Hi Ron! *waves* :D (The flowers behind him are super pretty btw).

@april - Oooh, he looks good in Sunshine!

    28. @april, congratulations on your handsome boy. He looks awesome.

    29. @sno4wy - Congratulations! I'll be looking forward to photooooos! I'm hoping I can get him some day. I love that Crocus faceup...

@april - Congrats! I do like that blonde fur wig on him, and that outfit is perfect. ^_^ Such nice photos! I like looking at him... ;)

Just a quick color comparison. I'll put it in the resin comparison thread too...

      Bronze, Sunshine, and Tan.
No perfect, as the sun was shining through the hail holes in the roof... I may try again on a better light day.

    30. Quick question: anybody know what bottoms fit a Granado Nuevo girl body? I'm having a hard time finding jeans for Linna XD

      • x 1
    31. Iplehouse SID jeans (for girls) are a near-perfect fit. . . . And IH makes really nice jeans. One of those companies where you definitely get what you pay for, clothes-wise.

    32. @april congrats. Duke looks great, so intense.
@aernath I guess that make my Boyd's resin sunshine as that looks the closest to his coloring.

    33. I was really worried about the Sunshine... Everyone's tan Neptunes looked AMAZING. I just knew I wanted him to look tan enough to off-set a really light blond with with darker roots/hair under the sunstreaks... (and wow, it was not easy finding sun-streaked wigs at all! I'll have to keep my eye open for any that might come up, even though I don't mind the ones I found). It was good that the skin tone wasn't TOO dark and red.

Thanks. It is so good to have him home. He's a lot of fun--more photogenic and handsome than I expected!

The blond fur, I didn't think it would work since it doesn't always look realistic enough on a more realistic sculpt... but I was REALLY having a hard time finding a sun-streaked blond wig! Weird, considering all the colors and styles of wigs out there!

I love your comparison photos. Is that the NEW sunshine or OLD? I didn't think that Tan would be lighter... It looks dark in most photos. But then... I have an Iplehouse in Real Skin, and it didn't seem all that tan to me. I'm glad I opted for the Sunshine, now, since it fits my guy's character pretty well.

My little, old camera does extreme color-correction, so sometimes my Neptune looks lighter and less red and others very red... I can see that happening when I view all the photos together... It's so hard to get a photo that really captures the actual color... although I guess that's just life, since it all depends on the lighting and what he is standing with (other tan dolls or really white dolls)... I should take a photo of my Neptune with my pink skin Charles! I bet he'll look a lot more red!

He definitely can look intense! (Although... at other times, not so much.)

    34. @april l, what do you think of Evol body? Do you like how it posing?

    35. @suok2011 -- I haven't really tried doing much with the body yet. I know that he stands well--the joints are all nice and tight and stay put when you place them. His shoulders are super-bulky, but seem to still have decent movement. I did notice that his head moving up and down was a bit limited. Side to side OK, of course.

He's double-jointed, so should get pretty good range, although I haven't tested it! I'm terrible at posing, so I don't tend to know much about posing...

I'll try and play around with him and report back...!

    36. Thank you, @april.

    37. ... I was having a bit of a hard time getting him to sit... but I always wonder if it's not the fault of his pants! I'll have to check on that...

Oh, hey... Took a quick picture of my pink/normal Charles on Nuevo body and Neputune/sunshine/evol... They are both bare-footed, so no shoes messing with the height. I didn't think Evol body would be that much taller...

And here's Neptune/Evol/Sunshine with Iplehouse Rex/Superhero/Light Brown skin. So the Sunshine is pretty dark, since Light Brown is definitely darker than Real skin, which people compare to Granado Tan...

      http://i.imgur.com/0Nrq6aU.jpg

... and my Neptune is definitely from different worlds than both of these guys! Charles (Sinjun) sometimes hangs with the other pirates... Rex (Marquis) is Special forces (has the outfit, anyway), so maybe he can hang with Neptune (Duke) when he's not being a pirate. Although Iples have HUGE (relatively) heads compared to the Evol boys...

    38. @aernath - Yum! What a good looking line up! :nosebleed

@april - He's got a fantastically versatile face. :D Interesting that the jacket was a little tight. I bought the clothing with my Neptune's head so I'm curious to see if it'll fit him when I eventually get him a body (looks like it'll be later this year if I'm good). Currently the jacket is being shared by a couple other and it fits their skinnier arms well.
