And I so am not regulary refreshing my tracking... Nuh-huh. Nope. *pokes it* It's left it's country of origins on 6th and no movement since then.
As I have package that left on the very same time (thought from Korea) just working it's way through customs it's twice as hard being patient...

 

Tracking is being a b*tch on this one! I tried a different tracking site and it actually gave me an update - my guy appears to have landed in Frankfurt on Sunday, so he's been in the country for days, but I'm still waiting for the $%/§%& ransom note. To make matters worse, today was my last possible pick-up day this week, the following days I won't be home when the mailman arrives ... so even if I were to ransom Mr. U today (if they'd kindly send the darn letter already), I probably wouldn't get him before Monday. *silently fuming*
That's what bureaucracy gives us - one day from China to Germany, then a week of paperwork.

 

Isn't the German postal service on strike? (another doll person mentioned it on Ravelry and was super annoyed because she's also waiting on a doll)

 

Oh, That might explain it I live under a rock at the moment.
I actually got the ransom note an hour after I posted. Now to remember how to do that self-checkout thing because I'm not paying those GDSK cutthroats one single cent, then I'll get to see my first Granado in person soon-ish!

You guys. Sorry for the double post, but I am beyond impressed with Granado's customer service and need to share this! They appear to have tracked the parcel themselves (or they just know their shipping times by now) and sent me an e-mail stating that apparently it was being held by customs, some additional info about what they put on the declaration, and to let them know if they could do anything else to help me get my doll.
How awesome does it get?

I just saw my updated tracking and apparently customs already took care of everything (the option to self-declare does not exist in my country).
The upside is: Virgil should arrive tomorrow.

The downside is: I have a feeling Virgil is going to be more like Nihlus than I expected. Today his sniper rifle and normal gun and holster arrived, so Virg was probably just being a small a...hole and intentionally let himself be delayed until most of his stuff was here. *hmph*

Ok. I WAS lurking. And I got him.
Hostage fee for Virgil. A good trade all together.
Thought not all went well :\

As I - with the not-aid of Nihlus - freed Virgil, I suddenly had his face in my lap. And that quite literally. The resin bit holding the faceplate had broken. Given that I found it later in the box under the form-cut plastic filling thingy and the fact that I know that customs opened the box and was IN the box I strongly suspect that they toyed around with my boy -.- Otherwise the resin bit would have been in the head or fallen out when I picked him up.
Luckily I found the last bits of some super glue for plastic and resin from my cosplay stuff, so I could fix it. I just hope it keeps holding.
I'm wondering if I should contact Granado?

As for the rest:
I really, really, really, REALLY L-O-V-E the white skin. I had been afraid that Virgil would look odd next to Nihlus given the difference in their skin colors, but the white skin was not AS white as I thought. In fact the color is like a super-pale normal skin (pinkish). Curious to see what Katrien looks in their ns then :3

Compared to Nihlus Virgil feels a bit stiff to pose, but he's probably not yet 'played in'.

I've decided that his shirt needs to be made a bit tigther after all in the chest and arms area. Other than that I'm actually pretty impressed how well the stuff fits and works. Well, except for the hat. Despite being for SDs, I feel it's to big and am considering replacing it with the MSD version...

Not sure if the eyes will stay or if I'll replace them. I think I should go down a size probably. The wig was only meant temporary as I worked myself through the few spare ones to get a good feeling for which color would suit him best, but apparently Virgil has already decided. Only need to get some time to cut it in shape :3

Virgil is also surprisingly firm and ... strict. And definitly has some Nihlus-attitude. Hopefully I'll get to do his face-up soon.

And a quick question: Has anyone needed to replace the silicon discs for better stability? Recently I'm thinking that Nihlus joints are just a bit too smooth and the grip they originally had thanks to the silicon discs is near non-existent...

 

[MENTION=58178]Snowy[/MENTION] he looks great! I hope his replacement hook holds for you, too--I am guessing maybe they took off his faceplate and then dropped it, but of course there is no way to tell. His wig looks perfect! LOL I had forgotten how long those legs are, too.

kips--I take mine out right away because they eventually crawl into the joints, and I use suede, glued down with a non-permanent tacky glue (Aileens tacky glue). Hot glue works well but I have trouble getting it smooth-- and so for me the suede is better (I can get it cheap here maybe because Chicago is a big cattle town and meat processor).

He looks pretty good with Nihlus. And Nihlus is adorable as always, mostly naked.
Those two definitely look like brothers already! lol
And I do hot glue sueding. Fishcake, the less smooth it is, the better it works, imho. Gives the joint a grippy surface.

You may have to epoxy the faceplate tab if it gets too much tension there, but it may be fine too.
I don't know if I would contact Granado about it. It was definitely a customs break. Which is why I suspect you didn't have to pay the ransom.
But at least it wasn't a finger! The tab in the head is easily hidden.

Snowy - Wow he looks great! It's not so good news to hear that his headpiece was broken. I'm always paranoid that customs is going to open up one of my parcels and potentially damage the contents. My Mads is in the white resin too and I was quite impressed! It's not as paper white as DollZone, but is a lovely pale-pinkish-cream.

 

Snowy, sorry to hear about the broken hook. I bet customs was looking inside his head for contraband.

@fishcake: -^^- Thanks. I do hope so as well, but so far it's sitting perfectly tight. I'm glad I still had some of that super glue left.
The wig is actually shoulder long and I tied the longer strands back in a tiny ponytail. The hairs visible are only the few ones in the front and held in place by the cap XD
But I adore the color (it's a Monique wig) and intend to buy Katrien one like it

Nihlus still has his were they were placed, but they don't do much anymore. I guess I either should replace them or use hotglue... hmm... I suppose I could also use suede finally... We'll see.

@aernath: YES! He was quite in a hurry. Perhaps to make sure his big brother isn't causing too much trouble? XD
Nihlus is dressed fitting the season. And boy is it hot these days...

Oh and I DID have to pay quite a hefty ransom -.-
I think this makes Virgil officially more expensive than Nihlus. ... Oh well. In a month I guess it will be about the same thing with Katrien (who still doesn't have a name - I had an idea yesterday, before falling asleep, but of course forgot by the time I woke up again -.-) and I still don't feel many regrets.

*nods* Yeah, as long as it holds, it's all good. If it doesn't in the long run I might need to contact G if they could sell me a headback separately. ^^°

I had it out with one of the custom workers before. Some idiot cut deeply into the box before, thought the doll box, some wrappings and straight down the middle of a set of clothes. -.- I could fix most it in the end, but I did demand compensation and got it. Less than the outfit cost, but better than nothing.
Given how much has gotten to me since I got into the hobby that one time plus this time is actually a good quote so far. At least all of my packages arrived complete.

... Where IS your Mads btw? I'm demanding pics! Show off that handsome hunk and pretty white skin

@Alewife: Possible. Or they were playing around with it -.- and clumsy doing so. I can even imagine their expressions and reactions when the face suddenly felt down. Probably quickly packed it up again and pretended nothing had happened. I'm just feeling lucky I did find the little piece in the box.

He actually switched straight to more comfortable clothes afterwards ;P Too hot for full uniform if he can avoid it.




Question thought: Do the Lads bodies not come with high-heel feet? I just realized that there wasn't a pair in the box.

Their WS is such a lovely shade, indeed! When I opened Charles, I thought I might have received an NS accidentally, since I have legitimately NS dolls the same shade as him. But the gift bust that came with him was NS -it's actually a really small difference, so you don't have to worry about Katrien being too different from Virgil

And I'm really sorry to hear about the headback - I'm guessing that the people at customs may have broken it when they were trying to remove his face - if someone's not familiar with the mechanism, it's easy to pull where one really shouldn't (I took up the habit of asking how faces/headbacks are removed for my commissions after a few scares where I almost couldn't pry dolly heads apart XD). But if the superglue didn't hold, I'm sure that Granado's wonderful customer service would come through for you, too

Ah, and the Lads body doesn't come with the heeled feet. If I remember correctly, their feet are not compatible, and the Lads didn't get heel feet made at all...

Well Smaug, then I may be a champion at hot glueing because I make little peaks with mozarella strings between them. I actually did some glueing on a doll's shoulders today and it went better--I think last winter it was just so cold in here, the glue was drying as soon as it came out of the glue gun, so it wasn't spreading at all. Now it's actually pleasant weather and everything is working better.

Also guessing my trusty glue really holds well. Don't think it will come off now if it hasn't in the last 12+ hours. I agree thought about G's customer service I'm sure we could work something out :3 Their handwritten note was so adorable again this time as well -^^-

I think I'll actually get to cut V's hair today and do his face-up. Getting woken up way to early (sunrise) by birds partying outside and making more noise than my teen neighbours did a or two ago also has it's advantages.

 

He's still a floating head in the box under my bed. ): He's got eyes, a wig, a labcoat, and a single test tube...his body is currently on layaway. I don't know whether I should do his face up now or wait until the rest of him gets here.

If V06 wasn't a titan I'd love his head...but something tells me their necks are too large to hybridise. I don't have the money for him anyway, my Mads needs his body! (Also slightly related to the no-money-thing: damn you DollShe!) Jaden's a lovely sculpt too.

 

Argh Jaden comes out in just a few days--I thought for some reason the poll was for long-range planning because yes, I fell for the Dollshe sale. I really like Jaden-- he has such a great profile and a backstory (My great-grandparents owned a ranch in California and my extended family includes Chinese and Portugese relatives). I may have to lie in wait for him on the MP. There is a Uranus there on the MP, btw if someone missed the cutoff date.

Snowy more spam anytime I am having birds party outside my window around 5 AM as well. They just need tiny motorbikes and beverage cans to complete the atmosphere.

 

Sometimes I think doll companies conspire against us and have sales/events all at the same time. Fingers crossed I can scrounge together the money for (the rest of) my DollShe boy without screwing up the nice little system I had set up to pay for my Mads' body. On the upside, if it all works out then that means two floating heads will get bodies!

my Pancho head - which is smaller than my other big guys' heads - needs his own body & the jointed hands don't fit well on anything I have, so there's a lads body in my future. has anyone seen news about a body to replace the nuevo? it would be odd to only offer the slimmer bod.

I think you're right. Jim's head is pretty big. He'd probably look like a bobble-head on a standard SD range. The guy's a tank.

 

I would love to get Mads but I think it would look totally ridiculous on a boy body and I have too many floating heads to get one without a future adult body in sight. Great that my wallet is safe for now.

 

Trethowan - I'd be curious to see what a Titan head would look like on a DollShe 28M or Iplehouse EID body. They're both pretty bulky.

Therealwalter - Oh lord. Just trying to imagine Mads on a Lads body...that would look so weird!

(Note: he's not that orange-ish, but somehow the colors didn't want to come out properly. Nihlus' red is usually also more wine red than this darkish color.)

 

@Quiet and Insane- The Dollshe 28M bodies have, like, a 13.5 neck (which is pretty big) but the Titan boys have a 16 neck! I've never seen anything comparable. I think there would be a significant gap. Though, style wise- those bodies might work. EID guys have a 12.5 neck so the gap would, theoretically, be even bigger. Of course this is all speculation because I don't have a Titan head to test the theory...


@Snowy - it's amazing how the same sculpt can look so different!

I was going to take a couple photos for laughs, but really... other than the Titan head looking a bit big on the EID body, the Nico titan head looks pretty darned GOOD on the Leeel 90cm body!
The gaps really aren't that bad - not very noticeable - unless you're looking up their noses. So really... not as bad as I expected!
