I've been in the ball-jointed doll hobby since July 2004, if you count actually owning a doll as the entry point. I had an active interest for about a year prior to that, however. A friend liked to link me to foreign artists, Japanese in particular, and at some point that included photos of Volks dolls. At that point I didn't think much about it, because I doubted they would be easy to obtain. However, shortly after some artists I kept track of actually bought some dolls and I had to reevaluate that assumption.
That was the beginning of the end, really.
As an artist I am primarily a hobbyist, though I dabble in personal commissions from time to time. What really drew me into the hobby was the creativity of it, especially the capacity for storytelling. I saw a lot of photostories and thought they looked like fun. Doing my own faceups came about more as me trying to be cheap (tip: it's not cheaper. Materials, the time spent practicing, buying more materials ... so not cheaper).
I am genderqueer and asexual. My queer identity tends to affect the sorts of characters I realate to, and thus the characters I write.Interact
