Hi everyone,
My name is Adam. I’m new to this site and the world of BJD’s. I’ve always loved dolls ever since I can remember. My mom used to make miniature porcelain doll-house dolls from scratch. I was always so fascinated watching her pour the giant tubs of grey liquid mud into molds and placing them in the kiln. And i would get into all her paints and fabrics and she would get so frustrated but somehow keep her cool. She’s always had a lot of patience. And she secretly loved that I was into them cuz my sister and brothers could care less. I first became obsessed with artist dolls like Monika Mechling and Nancy Wiley when I would leaf through my Moms “Doll Reader” magazines and hope one day when I grew up I’d be able to afford ones like that. I think my first dolls were Jan McLean. Then I fell in love with Gene Marshall. And after that was Tyler Wentworth. I collected them for a while til the Tonner company made too many and I stopped collecting dolls all together. Then last Christmas, I was home visiting my Mom in Connecticut and got to talking about dolls and I discovered Tonners company had closed. I thought at least now my collecting had a cap so I should start up again. I also discovered a Monika Mechling doll for sale that once graced the cover of one of those magazines and I splurged as a Christmas present to myself. And I’ve fallen right back into the world of doll collecting. So since January I’ve been collecting again and started crossing off some of the Tonners that we’re on my list. I eventually bought a glass eyed BJD Sydney for cheap cuz she was starting to yellow. I figured I’d sand her off or something to help fix her. But I fell in love with her just as she is. She’s one of my favorite dolls. Then I came across Mari. And this is where my obsession is starting. I can already feel it in my bones. I’m in love with this doll. And sculpt. She’s every doll I’ve ever wanted rolled into one. I ordered one from Iplehouse and they probably haven’t even started making her yet but I already need more of her. In every skin tone with every kind of face up possible. Then after I figure out which works for me, I’ll start on the next sculpt. I already can’t stop thinking about her and BJD’s. I get it now. Please welcome me into your world. I think we might have a lot in common.Interact
