Provenance:

He was previously owned by a collector here on DOA, and I bought him in the market place for $350. He came from Canada.

Reason for choice:

He called out to me in his sales thread, "Give me a forever home!". Now he is my favorite doll from my crew.

Best Points:

The resin from both companies hasn't yellowed much, it's a nice creamy tone. Resin is thick and sturdy.

Worst Points:

The Doll Family body has really collapsible knees so he has a hard time standing, but the sitting poses are great. His feet are kind of stupid looking too, but I kind of like them anyway.

Sylas dresses casually outside of work and prefers to be comfortable. He likes jeans and vests. He often ties things in his hair as well like beads and feathers. He likes things with a 1960's feel too.

Name story:

His name is a mixture of two artists in my class that I admired. The Arlo is just for fun. I spelled Sylas with a "y" because I think it looks better and is more unique.

Sylas is an only child born to Lily and Canyon Graves. He is half Mongolian and half Native American. Growing up he was raised to be open minded and excepting of people that were different from him, a trait that carried on into adulthood. His mother taught him some Buddhism and he, for the most part was a vegetarian. When he was eleven he met his best friend Alex and the two remained close all the way through high school. Canyon moved to Boston when Sylas was fourteen for better job opportunities, and his parents divorced. After high school though he moved to Boston as well for a while to pursue a musical career. However on his way to work as a barista one day he was violently mugged and his left hand was crushed. He became disheartened at the thought of loosing his life as a musician and fell into a depression. He soon fell into the wrong crowd and got mixed up in drugs and orgies. After a particularly bad experience he felt so ashamed and filled with regret that he attempted to take his own life but was saved by his friend Simon. His father was never very good at nurturing and despite his efforts knew that the best thing for Sylas was to send him home to his mother. After a while he learned how to play the guitar using his left hand to pick/strum. He got clean and got a job at 'Sunshine Sweets' as a barista. Later when he lost his apartment because the building was condemned he moved in with his friend Charlotte and her boyfriend River. He met London shortly after and although he didn't expect to, ended up falling in love. Sylas has always been bisexual, as he is more interested in the substance of a person's character than their gender. He is soft spoken and introverted and although he acts calm on the outside he tends to stress quite a bit internally. He gets discouraged easily too, and needs a bit of verbal reassurance sometimes. He has a crippling fear of anything dead or disembodied which is his main claim to vegetarianism. He writes music constantly as it is his true passion. Despite his short comings he is the kindest and truest friend anyone could ask for and brutally protective of his loved ones and his morals.
