Mordecai has undergone a number of faceup changes as well as name changes (from Kagehisa to Mattalast to Mordecai), though he stayed as the same character. The brown eyes and orange hair were inspired by Kurosaki Ichigo from Bleach, although he shares little else from his inspiration.
