Locke is unflappable, pragmatic, and all kinds of words for calm. He is the moral barometer against which all of my other characters are measured against; the foil to louder or more unstable personalities, a true "neutral- neutral" type of person.

Locke grew up in France and had an unremarkable, though lower socioeconomic class childhood. A skilled charcoal and graphite artist, he went on to a small arts college where he met his wife, a ballerina. She accidentally becomes pregnant, and because of the social taboos with abortion or unwed mothers in their religious families, they decide to get married at 19 so that their daughter will not be negatively impacted. Unfortunate, his wife passes away shortly after birth, leaving him with a newborn and very little family support. Locke eventually takes his young daughter to Canada to prevent his in-laws from potentially taking his daughter away.

Early on, even prior to college, Locke was a small time con artist and made decent money targeting older, foreign businessmen at bars. It was petty crime (stealing cash, credit card numbers, etc.) and because he looked for tourists, he was able to get away without punishment. After his daughter is born, Locke feels the weight of the risk for the first time, and gives this life up in favor of actual work.

In Canada, he works at a Domino's making very little money but managing with the help of neighbors and friends who watch his daughter while he works. Eventually, he accidentally absorbs other "strays" into his 1-bedroom apartment -- an autistic orphan at the behest of his friend Dante, Sorah (a friend of Dante's who becomes homeless), and Theo, a seven year-old who prefers their chaotic but warm household.

    Random Facts:
    • He is not naturally blond; bleaching his hair has been a habit given that blond hair is then easier to dye temporarily into other colors for disguises
    • He is near-sighted but despises wearing glasses
    • Living with Sorah has opened his mind. He previously wasn't very supportive of the concept of LGBTQ, for example (having grown up attending a conservative church). That said, in general Locke tends to be neutral about matters that he does not understand and is willing to change his preconceptions or prejudices if presented with new information
    • After 19 years, I am finally shelling his daughter haha. She'll be ~3-4 though, and represents an earlier point in his storyline
