(Once up on a time, Ammit was a terrifying creature. A being of pure shadow and fanged nightmare. Created by Osiris, the Incarna of Endings, to deal with mortal souls too broken or too stubborn to progress through the Gates to the Far Horizons in the usual fashion, she was a true monster. Nominally under the command of Anubis and Ma'at, she enjoyed her work and did it well... Unfortunately, Osiris' departure from the White City and the countless revisions to the Temple's protocols for processing mortal souls in the wake of his disappearance have taken a toll on the formerly fearsome beast.

These days Ammit is more of a noisy pet than a legendary menacing horror. She still stands at Anubis' side as faithfully as ever, though, always ready to snarl furiously and threaten any unfortunate mortal who gets out of line. She hasn't *actually* eaten a soul or torn out a heart in centuries, of course... But she figures the dead have no way of knowing that.)
