@aihre Oh wow! Those kimonos are really awesome! I love the way all of them came out! So much detail. I've been wanting to try my hand at making a hanfu, but I don't trust my skill level. All of your kimonos look amazing.
@RabbidBunnies Aw thank you - the kimono were sewn over several years, made them as the dolls came home. I find them quite relaxing and easy to sew! (Though that's not saying much, I don't know a lot of sewing patterns haha.) I've never made hanfu, but I can't imagine the construction to be too different from kimono. The garments might have more curves? and definitely use different materials to traditional kimono. I think it's worth trying out. You can do it!
My first bjd sewing project! I altered a JID iplehouse pattern by @MB Lilac to fit my SD13, the pictures unfortunately don't show the colours super well but the vest is a dark green linen with brown velvet ribbon binding for the trim. Handsewn because the fabric was prone to fraying. The dress underneath is vintage and is a bit of a placeholder for now until I've made or bought something...
Thank you @El BJD, @BlackSheep , @Teddy @Entnoot - Looks great! It's nice to see my patterns getting used.
@Entnoot - That is SO adorable! I just finished a pair of pants for Briar. Minifee waists are so darn small!
It is! The fabric was originally a pair of pants but they don’t actually feel all that great on cause the fabric is weirdly scratchy so I figured it’d make good doll clothes!
Getting back into sewing lately, first finished object is a sleeveless minidress, I drafted the pattern myself using a tutorial by Missy’s Imaginings on Youtube Currently, I’m working on a much more complicated project for a different doll that I’ve been meaning to work on for the past nearly 2 years haha
I just recently made Jasperella a snap-on bow tie and a pair of pajama pants. I’m planning on making a matching top, and maybe a matching long nightshirt for Lumi.
How adorable, you did a great job, love the material! Also, I have one of the earlier Luts Litchi dolls as well, one of my first dolls and one of my favorite! Nice to know there’s more out there. ❤️
Ahh!! I’m so glad to find another Luts Litchi owner! I was sad to learn they’ve been discontinued. Litchi is really special and not as common as Ani or some of the others.
It’s a sparkly textured fabric! Originally it was a pair of pants but they were so scratchy that I couldn’t wear them so I figured I’d repurpose them!
Oh that’s smart, I’d never really thought to repurpose human clothes to sew doll stuff from…something to consider for sure
It’s especially great for stuff you still really love but either can’t fit into anymore or has stains! A few snips in the right place and you’ve got a new dress out of a well worn shirt!
@downturningeyes, there used to be a thread especially for sewing with repurposed materials. Lots of great ideas there. Baby & kids clothes tend to have smaller prints & worn clothes tend to have softened fabrics. Plus it can be way more cost effective. Teddy has used men's cotton shirts for lots of dresses for his kids for example. And Pen-Pen's friend doesn't seem to be bothered by how scratchy that great sparkly fabric is. ;}
I recently made this linen dress to show off some bobbin lace trim I made! ...That you can hardly see, but still. I also did a little drawn work on the hem that I'm pleased with!
I zoomed-in on the picture to get a closer look at that pretty lace trim - and the drawn-thread work at the hem is a lovely detail too. Teddy
@Idoru Lovely details! They may be subtle, but it makes the dress look nicely finished. And in such a small scale too!
Thank you all! The lace is really just very small... Here it is by itself, before I attached it to the cuffs:
New I just finished a satin dress for an OT doll, and...never again am I working with polysilk at 1:8 scale. You cannot pay me to do it.
New What were the issues? I tend to stick with natural fibres where possible because they seem to drape better for doll scale projects (and I'm a bit of a fibre snob), and I've encountered some silks that fray horribly, but I find that drawing out the pattern shapes on the fabric, painting a thin line of fray-check onto the citting line and waiting for it to dry befofre cutting out the pieces can help a lot when sewing for the smaller doll sizes. Teddy
New There was also an issue with it stretching out of shape. My second time making the dress bodice, I used interfacing. The first time was a disaster. I had to hand-sew the whole bodice a second time. And this was after making a toile out of cotton lawn to make sure the bodice pattern I made would fit. And even with fray check, I had a line of stitching tear out and had to glue it back into place. Sewing for 1:8 can be a real pain sometimes. If you want to see the project on Threadloop, here it is. Pattern and satin dress for tiny doll by TheL1985 Not sure if the link is OK, though, since it's an OT doll.
New Ugh! What a pain I've given up on sewing for anything smaller than 1/6th. I can do it but it throws up so many problems it isn't enjoyabvle so I'm happy to pay those who can do it for me. I'm not a memebr so I can't see it. Teddy
New Oh, boo. I thought "public" meant that non-members could see it, too. Anyway, after months of only sewing for OT dolls, I've finally got something I can share here! It's for a doll I'm in the process of buying from the DoA marketplace. The leggings are Yaya Han cosplay material. I bought a whole yard (expensive as the stuff is), so if these leggings don't fit, I can always adjust the pattern and make new ones.
New Yeah, I'm very pleased with how they look! If they don't fit my doll, I may just put them on the Marketplace for someone else to enjoy. We'll see.
New Well, the leggings didn't fit, but I had a different pants pattern and I made her some new pants. I think she'll need some new socks for her shoes to fit right, though. Still, I'm happy that she has an outfit already.
