Thank you! I made the dress for my SDC Kaede originally so it's a bit tight for my Myu but the resin wants what the resin wants
@cobaltconduct I love your doll's expressions! They have a mischievous aura to them and very cute! @mydaffer Your Mika is too cute! It's probably one of my favorite MSD sculpts by Volks besides the four sisters. She's styled so fun! Love the fuzzy shoes.
Awe thank you so much, she was my very first Volks msd, she’s very special. She’s probably one of the only dolls I own that have a unique style of her own.
I have to share my story of absolute destiny with my brand new girl, Chibiusa! I've been planning her for several months; I was waiting to see if they'd be releasing a Chibiusa Dollfie Dream on the new chimikko body, but decided I prefer resin SDM to vinyl MDD anyway, so I planned to order the FCS F-69. Now, I live in Tokyo, and F-69 is a Kyoto-exclusive, so I had resigned myself to, at some point, take a trip to Kyoto (money) and order her there (even more money). Over the Golden Week holiday around May 3rd, I went to the Harajuku location for the first time. I don't know why I'd never been, I think I just always lived closer to the Akihabara Doll Point. Anyway, I went with my friend, and we walked in the door... to see F-69. I squeaked, read the sign, and realized that she and one the Kyoto-exclusive SD boy heads were being offered HERE until May 11th. I wasn't planning on getting her so soon but I did have the money so I went up to the counter and said I wanted to order her. The staff informed me that their appointments for FCS that day were fully booked, but they could take me on the next day, so I made an appointment and we got our bags to leave. At which point the same staff member came running over and said, "Our appointment for RIGHT NOW just cancelled, would you like to order her today?" Obviously I said yes, and excitedly ordered her (and was even able to order some extra hands and eyes for my friend.) I got the anime-style faceup because... she's Chibiusa. I estimated she'd arrive, appropriately enough, around her character's canonical birthday of June 30th. I spent the next two months collecting scale props, clothes, wigs, eyes, everything she'd need. I even made a ita-bag style carrying backpack by modifying a Blythe bag tutorial from YouTube. I was READY. SURPRISE, she came on the 21st!!! And she is the absolute cutest thing in the WORLD and I love her so much. Her henshin brooch is a gacha keychain! I'm going to dremel off the loop and then attach magnets so I can put it on all her outfits. For now, the Volks cherry set just looks darling on her. When I tell you I AGONIZED over the moon placement when I didn't have her here yet to test... but it's perfect!
@Honooko That was beautiful reading your adventures in getting a doll you will truly treasure. I think she’s so super adorable and the bag is amazing! Thank you for sharing your story! ❤️
I have said it on the doll profile and will say it again, she's the cutest f69 I've ever seen! Congrats on your beautiful doll @Honooko , please always share lots of pics of her!
Thank you! I was really hoping her eye shape would suit the anime-style makeup and it came out great! Thank you! The bag was a true labor of love Thank you! She's so photogenic, I just keep sitting her in my eyeline and sighing happily.
I have some questions about an older and somewhat obscure Volks MSD sculpt, F-12. If anyone has any more information, I would love to know! This sculpt, F-12 used to be a FCS sculpt for MSDs and also used to be available in kits. She was also known by the names Shinshiya and Miisha. From what I can gather… -Shinshiya came with long reddish hair, purple eyes, fairy ears -Miisha came with blonde curly/wavy hair, red eyes, angel wing ears -FCS would obviously be random, per the customer -Kits. I am unsure how F-12 was sold in kits, like if they came with anything extra or not (wig, eyes) or if Miisha or Shinshiya had been associated with kits, etc. Were the Shinshiya and Miisha names for this sculpt ever used outside of the sets I mentioned? I have an F-12 that I bought second hand on here in 2010. She has a headplate from November 2002, came with a long reddish straight wig, dark purple eyes, and the fairy ears. The eyes were still hot glued into her and she had an original face-up, both traits that make me think she didn’t come from a kit, but I am not sure. Am I correct in identifying her as Shinshiya? Would this sculpt have come with these other things in any of her other forms? I know it doesn’t really make a difference, I’m just very cu
@Leenah If she's got hot glued eyes in the correct color with the correct faceup, I'd say you're right that it is a preassembled Shinshiya. There was an option to buy her unassembled as well as preassembled. Where Angels Lie - A Super Dollfie Database - MSD I haven't looked into MSD/SDM heads much at all, but for SD heads, named sculpts have a number in their head and FCS sculpts have "SD-F-__" in their heads. For example, SD Coco will have "123" in her head and F-60 will have "SD-F-60" in her head despite being the same sculpt. I can't find any listings for the named version that shows her inner head number so I'm not much help there. I do see that FCS MSD-F-12 does indeed have "F-12" inside her head.
@nyaaain Thank you! Earlier today I found her original wig and eyes and that got me wondering about all of this. I took her original face-up off around 2015 or so, but I distinctly remember it being original. I guess she is a preassembled Shinshiya after all! The inside of her head has the Volks logo on each piece and "F" in the headcap, but no following number.
Yesterday, a long time grail doll arrived home. The first release of MSD Toppi, with her complete fullset. Apart from being very yellow - which I expected! - She's in amazing condition. Her shoes look new with no signs of peeling or cracking. Her dress and ribbon are still crisp, the whites of the dress and socks are not yellow with age. I found her while randomly browsing eBay, from a seller who I think lists items from estates or collecting. She was listed at a ridiculously good price too. I still can't believe she's sitting in my room. I can hold and touch her, like, is she really here?! 18 year old me is still in shock and present day me has a cried a few times.
@PinkBear Congratulations, she's adorable! Sometimes, the enamel-looking Volks pleather shoes seem to last a lot longer than other types – I have a 2013 doll from a Best Selection lottery whose enamel-style shoes were still intact and useable
I love your Toppi! I used to own the BTSSB collab one many years ago. She is such a unique sculpt and yours is especially cute!
Thank you all for the well wishes and congratulations! Seeing an older MSD get love makes me super happy too! I've named my Toppi, Charlotte. Her OC is that of a British girl orphan.
I’ve yet to take a picture of my sweet MSD cuties altogether but I bumped into this cute photo with two Mika’s and my very first bjd Sd Nana that has always been with my very first Msd Mika on the right. Have a beautiful weekend! ❤️
Sharing my recent SDM addition: Coco! I named her Theresa, she arrived from VolksUSA last month. I love her face, she's absolutely darling!
I've been fighting with Midoriko's (SDC Kaede) knees ever since I got her. The previous owner helpfully sent a stand with her as well, because she'll have a knee-jerk reaction to anything. Comparing to my MSD Myu, whose knees have very sturdy locks, even the sueding that some previous owner had given her has had little effect. Fast forward to today, all I had to do was spend 30 seconds adding two stripes of extra hot glue to the back of the socket can't believe it took me so long to figure out, she stands like a champ now. If anyone else is struggling with their older SDC girls, you'll just need to create a little hot glue ledge for the knee to lock into and it will stop sabotaging your doll Anyway, please enjoy this smug bugger as doll tax
@cobaltconduct Thanks for sharing your knee trick – I'm going to try it on my SDC boy who also likes to buckle at the knees
Maybe all SDCs are simply a bit possessed? Snapped a pic in case it's useful for anyone - I put a bit of a thicker line of hot glue where the red circle is which keeps the knee in place much better.
I posted her in the old-school thread when she arrived, but I figured I should post her here too now that I've restrung her body. (not very well, but it works for now) my msd f-12, who I've named Alice because I'm basic. (Although I might spell it Alis instead. Still deciding.) She's earless for now but she's adorable without them too, and I've been obsessed with her since she arrived. (please ignore her wig, I'm still working on taming it LOL) Her faceup is obviously quite old, and I think it sort of looks like it might be the original volks faceup? But those stock images are so tiny that it's kind of hard to do a good comparison. Her headplate is dated March 2003, so she's older than me by just a little bit, which means this faceup most likely is too, regardless of who did it. I think it would be a crime to wipe it at this point, even if I wanted to
@vtempo she is adorable, love her just as she is. I looked here Where Angels Lie - A Super Dollfie Database - Discontinued Standard Models to find her and it looks like the face up is the original as well as the eyes. Nice find! I absolutely love old school Volks.
I totally didn't even think about the possibility of the eyes also being original. they looked kind of scary in the listing photo (the unflattering head angle certainly didn't help) but i slightly changed their angle in the head when she arrived and she instantly looked so much nicer, so I'm probably keeping them too. I agree though, I love old school Volks! They have a unique charm to them
I love seeing the older sculpts so much. I hope to adopt one at some point. I recently received this sweet F-46. Now to find a new cute wardrobe!
@AbrakadbrA - kips are just silicone washers so if you find smaller ones in a hardware store, they should be perfectly useable in msd
those are to thick i was going to order volks kips from website but not sure if those sized fit msd or just for dsd & sd sizes.
The Kips from Volks are perfect for MSd. That is what I use. The package comes with large and small kips that fit.
Just got this outfit in today and I love Naru (F-40) in it ! Also, I love how these eyes look in this photo. They are from The Secret Art Studio and I love the quality!
So I may or may not have acquired a second f-12 who still needs some TLC, but i put her with my first girlie to get a quick picture: The first one came with her eyes already put in, so I'm not sure what size they are. The second one has 18mm eyes that I bought. It almost seems like their eye shapes are slightly different...? There was a thread posted recently saying that there are differences with the miisha/shinshiya version of the sculpt and the f-12 version of the sculpt, but for these guys, their headplates say "03,03/RE" and "04,06/RE" respectively, so i don't think either of them were fcs originally. It's possible they just updated the sculpt in general at some point, maybe? ...or maybe these two have the exact same sculpt and i've just been staring at them too long, I don't know
@vtempo - they are so cute together! Congrats on another head! RE means the heads are either slightly updated or just re-released after the original release I believe. One of them is from 2003 and the other 2004, so it could be that the sculpt was a bit updated inbetween, but it can also just be the faceup being different. FCS has a different head plate number style, and should have SD-F-12 engraved into the inside of the head if you want to be super sure.
I took a little gander inside their heads, and the second one has an "F" engraved inside the head but not "f-12" or anything like that. the first one has no letters engraved.
The F-12 sculpt is really cute. Is she hard to get ahold of? I've only recently been into volks msd/sdm. I love her face
Decently hard to find, yeah. I think a few of them come up for sale per year max, and they're going to be pretty expensive. It took me ~9 months of daily hunting online to finally get my first one. A few listings came and went during that time but those were all way above my budget.
New I just got my first Volks doll today! Bought from Dollyteria. She's a SDM F-48 She's very loosely strung and just floppy so I have to restring for the first time...but I love her and her big eyes!
New @Rosenfinch Congrats! SDM-F-48 is a very cute sculpt. Restringing can seem intimidating at first, but Volks dolls are pretty straightforward to restring (except if they've got funky things going on in the torso like the GrG body) and for me it's a nice way to spend time with your doll and learn how it all fits together. Best of luck with your maintenance!
New @vtempo Hello! I love your F-12 girl's! They are adorable! I bought a Sinsiya doll directly from Volks on 2003. She was a standard MSD model, as also was Misia. The eyes she came with were 20mm blue acrilyc eyes. I still keep them. I can't give you any information about the headplate because I sold her a long time ago (the biggest mistake I ever did with my dolls) and I don't remember. The thing I do remember is that she had carved eyebrows. I ordered her without any face up. I hope this to be of help to you.
New Thank you! I know that some people don't like the carved eyebrows on the older sculpts but i find them to be charmingly vintage (and they make it easier to draw eyebrows one during faceups ). Both my f-12 girls still have their carved eyebrows.
