66cm+ Dolls Loongsoul Black Dragon! Preowned, French brown

Did I say no more dolls this year? Nooooooooo…. Why would I say that….

Of COURSE he got delivered right before I went to work. Spent the whole day thinking about it!

I’m still fairly new to the resin BJD world, but this guy was one of the first dolls that absolutely captivated me! (Long story short, handsome dragon-men are sort of my kryptonite.) But since I missed his release date, and he seemed generally popular, I just made peace with the fact that I’d have to admire him from afar. (The rerelease didn’t really pique my interest ‘cause I wanted the French brown and original faceup!)

But as you can imagine, when I saw a listing… I had to have him!

(To be fair, I ordered this through a proxy - the original seller did show me the wig laying in the box in the verification video, but I didn’t expect them to send it that way LOL. The rest of this was probably my agent. I always expect some level of jank from them, though I do tell them to leave everything in the box…)

Our first casualty.
It wasn’t actually too bad, I just took out the gold tie (rip) and let his hair hang down.

First time trying it on him! It’s a bit tragic looking but I’m too enamoured with his face to care. Hi handsome!

Previous owner stuck it down with eye putty. Ok. Sure. (I’m definitely replacing this…)

Now the worst part of the unboxing…


His tail has a chip!

I hit the maximum amount of images I could include, so let me make another comment with the fixing & restringing I did.

 

So he came to me VERY loose (tail & body), so I decided to unstring him straight away. And what I found was in his joints and crevices there was this… white powder? Crust? Here are some photos:

So I just assumed this was mold release - even though I know that mold release is greasy, not powdery. So i decided to wash his entire body with dish soap, but it didn’t actually take any of the powder off.

Afterwards I found out from another black dragon owner that the powder was probably from the sandblasting process Loongsoul uses. Oops! Using a magic eraser was what worked to take it off.

For his tail, I used 2-part epoxy to kind of “glue” the chips back on. It is a bit noticeable, but it’s better than having a chunk taken out of his tail, plus I’ll be blushing the entire thing! I’m really happy with how it turned out

I strung the tail super tight, as it’s what stabilises him when standing.
Oh, I forgot to take a photo, but the lower part of his staff and some of his tail fluff needed gluing too. I did that with 2-part epoxy and it turned out really strong!

Now for the final reveal-


Meet Haoran! I’m so so thrilled to have him, in the exact colour with the exact faceup I always wanted!!! I have plans to blush his entire body. I’m absolutely over the moon with him.

Oh and I will be using his wings, but one of the magnets fell out so I’m waiting on a replacement.

SO BIG! One of his big paws is the size of my entire hand.

He is so hefty!! And thank you, even though it left a bit of a resin blob I’m still surprised I managed to actually fix broken resin. (The solution was more resin.)

Thank you so much!! I had looked up so many pictures of this guy online, but not many actually put his size in perspective. His tail alone is bigger than my 1/4 doll! He commands such presence, I love it. (Don’t love the real estate he and his two boxes take up though lol!)

I do actually, I was thinking about it the whole time he was in the mail!! I think blue & gold look fabulous together, so I’m planning to paint his scales/dragon parts in black/dark blue with golden highlights. I plan to use my airbrush for the big parts, a detail brush with gold leaf paint for the golden details (and of course pastels for body definition). Let’s see if I can be bothered to dot a highlight onto every single scale on that enormous tail

 

Thank you! It was my very first time doing this type of repair on a doll, so I am super pleased with how it turned out !! Will definitely start posting about his blushing when I get around to it~

He does take up almost triple the amount of space as a normal doll lol, between his big claws and enormous tail! He demands royal treatment thank you!!!

Dragons all the way!! I’ll probably order the next dragon man they release, if they continue making them. They’ve totally sucked me in. And I agree, it’s such a perfect shade! So so happy to have it in my collection!

 

Oh have I ever. The transparent horns and ears?!? Wowwwww. And the way his feet look like they’re carved from bronze! He would look so good next to my black dragon…
Stop making me think about him!!!!
