I realized i need to stop hoarding supplies and actually use them (˘・_・˘) so here is a few current ongoing projects in that spirit: first up is Angellstudio Wendy she is my newest girl and is getting absolutely spoiled right now! I want to make some rococo dresses and she will be modeling them, but for that she needs a wig. I did initially have a look around if there was anything and wow, tumbleweeds, nothing even close D: I have some experience in doll wig making with varying level of success but because of that i realized nothing i had would produce the results i wanted, I decided to try a new fiber after getting inspired by some rococo skeletons in the Halloween decoration aisle (/▽\) i got some very thick loosely spun 'wool' yarn form aliexpress and hoped for the best building the mound, i use plastic wrap to both protect the doll and form a very thin wig cap so far so good, making some curls to go on the wig, i was worried that they would droop after the initial forming but they held up pretty well after the initial 'droop' the curls were made using a very fine curling iron and wearing heat resistant gloves to avoid burns i learned my lesson(s) >.>;;; if the images above do not load you can see them here the wig turned out taller then i planned but as proof of concept it's perfect (and not outside the realm of rococo possibilities lol! ) if the images didn't load for you, you can find them here well now i realize most of this post is not sewing but we will get to it i promise ! I will add more projects but leaving it here for now due to image per post limit thoughts? questions? let me know
It turned out great the texture of the yarn works really well for this hairstyle. I love all the ringlets and how you have adorned her with golden flowers, bows and pearls. I am looking forward to seeing what clothing you will make for her
Wow, what a wonderful, creative piece of work! I think the wig turned out amazingly well. Makes me want to try something like that myself Thank you for the good, detailed description of your project. I'm very excited about the clothes. Thanks for sharing
Wowow! Echoing others, I’m very excited to see the clothing that will go with this! I especially love historical fashion at doll scale because of how fiddly all the little parts can get, it’s just very satisfying to me
Yes! I love it. I'm so excited to see someone doing this. I am planning on doing the exact same thing for my MSD girl when I'm able to actually work on it. I have some silver wool roving I plan to use first. White like you used would be more ideal, but silver is what I've got. I'm very excited to see the clothes that you make!
Oh, what a cool wig! You wouldn't happen to know what fiber that is? I have massive cone of fine wool roving in my stash that I rejected for wigs, because the texture is not quite right for loose natural hair styles, but for something structural like this it would probably be perfect. *mutters* I do not need to start another big project. I do not need to start another big project...
i'm happy to see that everyone is exited for the future rococo dresses! through it may take a bit to get to them as this will have all my wips hmm i am not sure if what you have will work i found that you couldn't really brush this stuff out or it would fall to pieces, if you have multiple small strands it may be difficult to combine in to one uniform mass, might work for smaller dolls the listing for this stuff is a bit inconclusive it mentions, wool, rayon and acrylic in different places of the listing but having worked with it acrylic seems the most likely i imagine different variations of this style of fiber could be workable as well, there is actual wool and bamboo blends i would be curious to try at some point, i just grabbed the cheapest one i could find since i wasn't sure it would work at all
The fiber is fine, but the roving itself is finger thick, visually it looks a lot like yours, just even thicker and looser. I have no idea if it will work or not, but thanks for the idea and inspiration in any case! This is a very cool project.
it is a little tricky, i managed to get the balance ok, i actually ended up adding an additional layer of plastic wrap to help it grip the silicone wig cap despite what it looks like it's actually incredibly light weight! the pearls are plastic and the chain is super fine, i also made sure that it was not tipping back but sitting on top of her head (that was part of the initial tipping issue) oh yes then it should be fine! i imagine it would depend on the length of hair in the mass, if you pull some hair out it should be about 10 cm, if it's shorter it may not work as well but i'm not sure it's one for ultra fine curls, probably one of the smallest you can find available, a friend gifted it to me for Christmas so i can't even tell you where i got it, it's about 1 cm / 3/8 inch wide, if that's not an option for you warping the hair around an appropriately sized wooden skewer or plastic straws and pouring boiling water over it can achieve similar if slower results (with all the air drying time)
Oh that’s so fabulous!! Such a great idea and execution. I might have to try this for an 18thc outfit I want to make.
thanks! i know i got everyone hyped for some rococo dresses but this is for keeping track of all of my projects so here is one i recently finished lol! it all started when i accidentally bought 300 g of alpaca wool yarn (the accident being that i didn't consider how much yarn that would actually be!) so i selected my patterns, (this was originally a decreasing pattern but i needed to go longer then the one i had in my pattern book so i actually had extend it my self) i did a test piece to make sure it didn't look odd wound my yarn in to a ball and got to it (one sleeve finished) if any of the images didn't load above you can find them here the skirt took the longest since i believe it started at like 220 or so stitches (i have it written down somewhere since i needed to calculate the exact number) i also needed to mach the decreasing pattern to the fill pattern in between that didn't decrease and have it mach up to the existing pattern to where it does start decreasing and well in the end it actually worked out i was shocked! after i attached the sleeves to the body it looked something like this if you are wondering why there is so many damn needles is because it's such a dramatic (and small) shape that it couldn't stretch enough to be on fewer needles, fortunately i had plenty in this size trying it on to decide where to decrease/increase and other shaping shenanigans (don't mind the fo fur jacket with the measuring tape sash this was actually made for my AngelPhillia girls but i wanted to see if it would fit small SD as well ) this is my first time trying to knit something so shaped so it was quite stressful! with lots of trying on in between at some point it stared to feel like i had no controll over how it would turn out at all ! through as cute as off the shoulder look was i knew i had to make proper shoulders or the weight of the outfit would drag it down (and off) not only did the math math i also won yarn chicken (all that's left of the huge ball) pre blocking and no buttons but still i was so happy with how it turned out! (i forgot to take pictures but after blocking the wrinkles on the back vanished! ) if any of the images didn't load you can find them here continued in next post
after finishing this dress i realized i had no buttons to mach D: so i went out and bought some... but there was too many cute options! option one: option two option three if the images above did not load you can find them here i couldn't make up my mind so i asked my tumblr followers to help me decide in a poll xD in the end number 3 won! if the images didn't load find them here i still want to make an off white dress to go under this but i am pretty pleased at how this looks in then end all in all it took me about 4 months to finish
Majorly impressive!! I love it!! I imagine this dress will be an heirloom in your family! Just stunning work! You are so skilled!! PS: Your girl is lovely!
thank you she is my mom's favorite too, through i was pretty close to missing her order date, about a month or so after getting her i went back to the angellstudio website to cheek what her skin tone was called and the listing was gone i was that close to missing her! usually i have the opposite luck with dolls and they vanish before i can place the order ;;;
