Finally getting into the hobby!

    1. Hello everyone!
      You'll see from the age of this account that I've been following and lurking in BJD communities for quite some time, but I have never posted until now.
      That's because I've been dancing around actually getting into BJDs for a long time, but like many other people, the cost always put me off. Luckily, recently my life situation has stabilized enough that I've been able to put some money aside and I finally (after 7 years of adding and removing things from my cart) made my first order with Legenddoll for a MYOU body and a Zi Zhi head.

      The main draw for me into BJD was the clothes, as I sew/alter my own clothes as a hobby already, and thought trying to make outfits for a doll would be an excellent way to use up fabric in my collection that I don't necessarily have enough of to make something for myself.

      Hopefully I'll be able to make something good to show y'all! ^^

    2. Aw welcome!! Funny that you're inspired to get into the hobby from loving to sew, I'm personally doing the reverse and learning to sew because of my dolls; sometimes I feel like one hobby will always inevitably lead to the other :lol: The wait will be well worth it once you get your first doll and start creating for them!

    3. That's great. I hope it proves a really ernjoyable enhancement to your sewing hobby.

      A tip that some people struggle with when first switching down to sewing doll scale from sewing for humans is to scale the fabric for the size of the doll - fabric that drapes nicely in human size might be too heavy/stiff/thick to work for the same type of garment on a doll - it may not drape as well, or may be too bulky to look "right" in doll scale, If you're making layered outfits they may look too bulky on the doll as the fabrics are a lot bulkier in doll scale than they are on a human body.

    4. Welcome and congrats on getting your first doll!! Being able to sew is a great advantage in this hobby! When I got my first doll, my idea was to try to make everything I could for her by myself and I have learned a lot!
      I hope you to enjoy the forum as much as when you were only lurking!! :D

    7. Oh this is great advice! I've dabbled with making smaller items in the past and learned a similar lesson. Luckily, I've got a lot of sheer and lightweight fabrics to play with.

    8. Congrats, that's super exciting!! What head sculpt did you get, if you don't mind me asking? I've also considered getting into sewing for dolls, it feels like it'd be really fun and rewarding to creating something yourself just for them, so it's super cool to come into the hobby with that skill to begin with! Excited to see what you create :D
