Hello all! I'm Lee/Lumen. Just recently, I ordered my first BJD (on day 29 of waiting as I type this), and I'm very excited. I ordered a GEM of Doll Moira because I thought her expression was just so beautiful and I've heard good things about GEM's bodies. In this month, I've been looking more into BJDs as a whole in preparation for her arrival, and one thing that's really caught my eye is the massive amount of fantasy parts available; I've seen many different fashion doll lines—and was raised mostly on Monster High—so I'm no stranger to nonhuman dolls, but even though my first BJD will be fully human, I've become enamored with the detail and proportions many of these fantasy sculpts have in comparison. I've become particularly interested in hooves and wings, and recently fell in love with Dream Valley's Nirvana-Phoenix specifically, but I'm not imagining it'll be an easy find, so I'm going to focus of the doll I've got (or will have, anyway). One aspect I'm most looking forward to is sewing her new outfits. I didn't buy Moira's fullset since, like I said, this is my first doll, so even though I know it's absolutely worth the price, $450 is a lot to put toward a single purchase in a new hobby (not to mention that I'm Canadian, so any prices in $USD are actually 40% more expensive than they appear before I get to checkout). I have some sewing experience, and since MSDs are a fair bit larger than fashion dolls, I'm hoping it'll be easier to add details compared to the outfits I've made in the past. I'm very grateful a forum like this exists, as it has greatly helped me in figuring out some of the specifics around choosing Moira in the first place, along with answering some of the more general questions a newbie like me has about the hobby. Anyway, this post is getting long, so suffice to say I'm very excited for Moira to arrive and to share her with everyone! Cheers!
Gem of Doll BJD's are really great posers. I have one of their dolls, and am always amazed at how well he holds his positions. Congratulations on your new doll! Sewing for your dolls can be so much fun as well! Welcome!
I’m also Canadian, so I feel your pain on the exchange rates!! Congrats on your new doll, and I hope she comes in soon!
