Doll Chateau - Adult Dolls - Part 2

Feb 21, 2015

    1. Methos is languishing.... always waiting for his companions to arrive...
every time i almost get the gumption to do a face up, he's just so beautiful the way he is...

    2. @Grimalkin He does look amazing without color, shadows and form are perfect on him.

    3. @Grimalkin Gosh he's stunning, and those horns look amazing :loveI totally agree about some dolls not needing faceups, and there can be something so beautiful about the unpainted resin sculpt just as it is. I have some dolls where I feel like painting them would almost take something away from their beauty. <3<3<3

    4. @Grimalkin He looks so beautiful, I don't know if a faceup is absolutely necessary!

I feel like the last time I shared Pandora (Doll Chateau Lilly) in this thread was years ago... Oh goodness it doesn't seem like an exaggeration! Here's of my current favorite pics of her.

    5. thank you all - he is always my best boy, favoured grail. I just had the opportunity to pick up a second head, in white, so maybe I will just face up that one... keep his peach looking like the boney creature he be.... but with the second head, he could put on his "human" face as needed... Would you all want to see more with him and Medeas?

@FirecrackerSparks: she's beautiful, i love all the painted details, and her wrap is just perfect <3

    6. Can someone with a Doll Chateau Christina please message me? I'd like to make something for my BFF's doll as a surprise for her but need a couple measurements that I can't find online. Thank you in advance! <3

    7. Your boy is so stunning! I would love to see pics of him and Medeas; debating whether Medeas would be the best fit to shell a character of mine :).

    8. @Vanytie - is that a Timneh! am i having dèjá vu, maybe we already talked birbs... mine's a congo

My Medeas is named Kahik, i'll put a few here, but if there is a pose or anything you want to see let me know and i can take pics. i have him on the winged A-04 body right now. a couple of these are in a sepia tone, but i like that you can see the sculpt details a bit like when they are grey.
how many pics in a row is rude? :XD:

I don't care too much for the short wig in the next one, but at the time i didn't want to have a long one tangled in his wings. If i have a colour or length you want to see, i'll take a pic for you.
i need to find an excuse to get an A-Body-08, but i think there is only Oswald left in 1/3 boys at DC now, i will wait for hopefully some new sculpts *fingers crossed*. :wiggle

    9. Yes, he’s a Timneh! His name is Petyr. I also have a (half bald) Congo called Osca, a Quaker called Rio and a Senegal called Penny. They’re all rescues and are awesome <3. What’s your Congo’s name? I’ve been very inactive on DoA for the last couple of years but very possible we did talk birds before :).

Thanks so much for the pics and not rude! I want to see all the pics :). You take lovely photos of your boys and Medeas looks great with the winged body! My character has long, silvery-blond hair, so is there any chance you could take a pic of Medeas wearing the wig your Methos has on? That would be really useful. I’m a bit torn between Medeas and Cyril; not sure if I want a thinner-lipped boy for this character but Medeas has the haughty, aristocratic look I’m going for (but then most of the DC boys have elegant, aristocratic features)..

Yess - fingers crossed there will be new sculpts soon, although will be bad news for my wallet ;_;. What are your plans for the A-08 body?

    10. you have quite the aviary :) i had a Quaker a long time ago, he was such a sweet clown. i've met some nice Senegals, my my such loud mouths though they were sweet natured. my congo is named Greta, she came to us with that name. one of our nicknames for her is VelociGreta - like a velociraptor... not gonna lie, she's a cranky old dinosaur  we've done a ton of rehab, she's a rescue too.

sooo, the funny thing about Methos's hair, it is just wefts that i've attached under those crazy antlers. what a pain those things are to put on. But i have a bit more grey-silver long wig, that Methos sometimes wears when more human, that might do the trick. i'll still dig around and see if i have anything else. the exciting thing is, i have a Cyril too! his name is Kasimir, and he came to me with a face up, so that may make it more difficult to see your character idea, but i can put him next to Medeas in a similar wig since he has his own A-02 body. i'll try to snap some over the weekend for you. :thumbup.
the A-06 is very different, almost like a tall 60cm, very small hands and feet. the feet fit SD ladies high heels!

the A-08 is a really nice sculpt, and i like being able to swap bodies around as i have too many heads... currently i have some larger 23-24cm dia. heads (like FHSH Rei) where a beefcake type bod like that would be sized correctly. i do so want that gorgeous A-07 centaur too but i can't seem to make up an excuse as i can't find a head i like for it yet... i guess mostly, since the DC proportions are so unique, being able to eventually size and make accessories and clothing for all the SD sizes would be great.

    11. @Vanytie - i wasn't sure what view would be the most interesting, so here are the two i thought looked the best, and i did spoilers on the others. Or you can see them all together on my flickr.
If there is a different pose you want to see, just let me know.

my light gets a little odd depending on time of day, but they are both white resin, but Cyril is very yellowed. I personally think Medeas looks younger than Cyril when blank. The wigs are the same colour, a silvery grey. Medeas is on a-body-04-1 (wings are folded behind him) and Cyril is on his original a-body-02

    12. Aah sorry - late reply. The last couple of days have been manic. Thank you so much for taking the time to show me photos <3. Medeas is the perfect sculpt for my boy I think; just found out he’s discontinued though :(. So gutted, I thought his head was still available. Time to scour the secondhand market! Cyril is absolutely stunning as well but I agree, he looks more mature (not that that’s a bad thing!).

Greta sounds like a character :D. My Osca is pretty huffy as well (although secretly quite soppy I think..). She always reminds me of a Hippogriff (from Harry Potter) as she likes a good scritch but you have to suggest it to her and wait for her to lower her head before she’ll accept it. Otherwise you’re liable for a nip, haha.

I’m still dithering over which body to get for Medeas. I’m toying with the idea of getting a body to use with two heads for a while, as I have another character I might buy a Dennis head for. DC have too many amazing options. I suppose I’ll make Medeas’ head my priority though and use whichever body comes with him if I have to buy a full doll to get hold of his head.

      @Grimalkin

    13. So I'm looking for a Dennis head and I thought for a second last night that I found one in one of my FB groups but it was in NS pink and I really want white. I was going to just say screw it and get it anyway but it turned out it was already sold. This got me thinking would it be possible to blush ahead in one of the light natural skin colors to match a white skin body?

    14. maybe airbrushing over a really good layer of MSC/liquitex?
but, i would not give up yet on getting a white one, not all the orders have delivered from the discontinuation event, especially to the dealers who might have placed larger orders all at once, keep watching for stock for a bit :thumbup. My Dennis is on layaway, but i've also not been told he came in early... plus, i just found a Laney on the moth body, when i thought i was out of luck. i think there's a good chance you can find him :3nodding:

    15. Thanks! I wasn't planning on giving up just yet just got curious lol. Can I ask where you got yours? I've been checking the sites but now I think I'm going to start emailing them. I'm selling my only doll and I NEED this head lol.

    16. mine was pre-order before the discontinuation from Clover Singing (jeeryama's regular website). if she has any stock they would be in the eBay jeeryama store. but she & other dealers maybe still have orders coming in from that time frame too. i think it was end of march for that discontinue event.

    17. well i hate to double post, but wanted to share a little bit of Halloween styled Laney.
would love to see all your pictures too <3

    18. That's a fantastic picture of Laney. Thanks for sharing it with us. They're extremely seasonally appropriate. I'm hoping to do a spooky shoot with my dolls some point this week.

    19. Halloween Laney looks so good! Her sculpt is so perfect for the occasion, but I didn't even think of it until I saw your picture @Grimalkin! Great job!

    20. Can anyone tell me how tall the A-04 male body is without the added ankle pieces?

    21. i'll get him out in the morning and measure if no one beats me to it :thumbup

    22. @Cloudedmind - i have the A-body-04-1 - the one with wings, but it is my understanding it is exactly the same as regular 04 except for the holes in his back. I took off one extra ankle piece and put the tailor tape underneath him, down the center of his body. i figured it might be good with have with and without the head as Medeas isn't normally sold with this body.

with the head on: 69cm with the extra ankle piece and 67cm without

with the head removed, from the top of the neck: 64cm with the extra ankle piece, 62cm without

      i hope that helps <3

tbh, now i'm curious as i thought the difference between 04 and 03 was the ankle pieces, i honestly hadn't noticed he had them  the two bodies look pretty much identical in sculpted features to me... but now i'm gonna hafta do a side by side or my brains won't shut up

ps, wait maybe the extra neck piece factors in... hmm

    23. @Grimalkin Thank you for those measurements! 67cm without the ankle pieces might actually work for what I want.

Yeah, the difference between the 04 and 03 body is that the 03 body has the neck piece.

    24. Not sure which would the best place to ask this, but

I received my Y-body-06 this fall, ordered through a dealer (BJD dreams), but I received no COA with the body?

I've read that DC's COAs do not specify the dolls, and my ant and head came with their owns, but to receive no COA for the body at all, should I be concerned?

    25. @Fenalei
DZ and DC do not provide certificates for their bodies, only for heads and whole dolls (since the head is part of the whole doll).

    26. when i bought a body separate for a head that was sold solo from another place, there was no COA for body alone from DC. but i have the receipts/emails from the dealer, paypal history and factory issued box. if they sent it directly to you from DC, the shipping labels/export docs might be good to keep or photograph with DC's return address. hope that helps :)

    27. Phew, thank you so much for replying, both @Nata-eslava & @Grimalkin ! I'm relieved to hear this and that I didn't mess up anything, haha!

I think I'll print out the order's receipts and emails and put them into the body's DC box

    28. I know this thread is old but I'm in a bit of a pickle so here goes nothing. If anyone has or had a DC Dennis what size eyes does he need? I'm planning on getting a rather pricier pair and it would be horrible if they didn't fit right but I can't seem to find his size anywhere. Thanks!

    29. Hi! 16 mm eyes are the best, I think. He's eyes are quite big :)

    30. You are a lifesaver and your dennis is a cutie! Thanks!!!

Edit woopse I thought I hit quote must have double clicked

    31. I want to add something about the eyes, although I have no Dennis.
I have Adrian, with big expressive eyes too, but it turned out to be a HUGE problem to find the right eyes for him.
That's how I chose the size: I measured his eyes with white plastic beads with stenciled irises. I used beads with a diameter of 14-16 mm, a combat mission plotter and a graphite pencil; I drew irises of different diameters and applied the bead to the doll's eye socket. The 6-6.5 mm iris on a 16 mm bead looked best, so I stopped at the size of 16/6 mm. But it was not enough... :nowords:
For now I changed 3 pairs, the last one was the best, but still not perfect. It’s all because of very flat and non-symmetrical dome of his eye niches. Eyes with a semicircular arch when settled leave huge gaps on the sides. Flat eyes eliminate these gaps, but stay very far from eyelids due to the high lens, which casts a shadow over the entire white. Finally, I found a way out by ordering fully custom 16/6 mm eyes with a reduced iris, a flat dome and a low lens.
      So far, he's like this:

    32. Can anyone tell me if the bodies with extra joints fit in normal 70cm clothes or do they have to be custom made?

    33. I've only started clothes for the boys so far, so not sure about the ladies yet.
Some 70cm/"uncle" items have fit with no alteration, but i do check the clothing maker's listed size chart for especially length of leg and arms, and hip/waist measurements. some tops can be smaller than 70 class if the arms are long enough. a pair of boots has help solve some of the short cuffed for me. when flying blind and no measurements are listed, i've had some items be too short, or the waist too much gap vs. the hip.

      • x 1
    34. @Grimalkin Mind sharing the hip/waist measurement you use? My boy is on the way so I don't have him to measure and are wanting to order some clothes. Sadly Alice Collections doesn't have legand arm measurements so I'm flying blind there.

    35. @Shai - No problem :)
for A-body-03 i used what DC had online from the old website when i bought most of his clothes, i'd not measured by hand yet.
but i had Methos out today for some pics so i measured him for you :)

the waist is spot on, but hips i'm getting 27.5 cm, around the largest part. I bet the 29.5cm gives allowance to sit.
Leg at 40-40.5 seems good for trousers with a waist at the belly button, for lower slung styles you can do shorter like 39 cm
Arm is 22 cm Shoulder to the wrist. the 29.5 cm is to the tip of the middle finger from shoulder.
Chest is maybe a bit slimmer at 24cm when measured, but the 25 probably lets you dress him easier.

      from DC's old website:
      neck dia: 8.5 cm
      Shoulder W = 14 cm
      Arm L = 29.5 cm (to fingers)
      Chest circ = 25 cm
      Waist circ = 18 cm
      Hip cicr = 29.5 cm
      Leg L = 40.5 cm
      Thigh circ = 14 cm
Feet L = 9 cm (get shoes 1cm longer, maybe more if cannot lace/zip)
Feet W = 3cm (measured at widest point)

hope that helps you out :thumbup

    36. @Grimalkin That is wicked helpful, thank you! I don't trust the websites measurements since I've been tricked by them before, lol. I really appreciate you taking the time to measure for me, it really helps!

    37. glad to help, i've found some crazy numbers with other BJD too, maybe typos actually with how far off

    38. Hi all I'm back to once again resurrect this extremely helpful thread! If there's a part three I'm totally missing I'm going to feel like a dummy but I can't find one. Anyway, my A Body 04 arrived out of literally nowhere yesterday, didn't get any notification nor did AC update the status lol. I half want to show him off half want some advice from those experienced with the 70cm DC bodies.

His body is every bit as beautiful and strange as I was hoping but I'm having a bit of trouble getting him to stand, and just in general not look cockeyed lol so I was wondering if you all had any tips and tricks for working with his unusual joints. I'm sure I'll get more familiar with him as time goes on but I figure it couldn't hurt to ask. Anyway he's not all set up yet but here he is!!

    39. Mine isn't in shoes and I don't know how that affects things. First, make sure the joints and limbs haven't rotated into an odd position. Gowin always seems to have one shin that's twisted weird and those extra ankle bits love to spin around. Hold at the hips. Pull the feet into position under him. I leave the knees straight. One hand on the waist/hips, one adjusting the feet and everything to make sure he's going down steady. Adjust the arms once he's standing solid. (Be ready to grab if that unbalances things.)

      • x 4
    40. There's definitely a learning curve involved with the extra-jointed bodies, but they're just ridiculously graceful once you do get the hang of them.

With my guys, it was mostly hands-on trial and error learning how to get them to stand and pose, honestly. Their balance points and center of gravity are very different from the other Tall Dudes in my crew. Suede plivering the thigh, knee and both ankle joints or using KIPS disks in those spots will help, but aren't really a substitute for just learning how to balance them. Also, you have to keep a real eye on their elastic tension. If they're at all loosely-strung they'll collapse in a heap if you look at them sideways. Err on the "too tight" side rather than the "too loose" when you restring them.

      • x 3
    41. I need to ask someone to see if my memory is right. The A-Body-02 is just the A-Body-03 but without the extra neck bit, right? I just need to double-check because I cannot for the life of me remember what body my Mephisto.Pheles is on.

      • x 1
    42. i have a pic with them together, spoilers since the others are OT for this thread.
they look different, and have several different measurements, these are from the old website, maybe helpful :thumbup

      Body Name Height --- Neck-- Shoulder W --Arm L-- Chest--Waist--Hip---Leg L---Thigh Circ---Feet L
      A-body-03 - 72 ------8.5 ------- 14 -------29.5 ----- 25 ----18 ----29.5---40.5----14--------------9

    43. Ah! So my Mephisto most likely has the A-Body-03. It's been a hot minute since I've been in the hobby so I had to make sure. Thanks!

      • x 1
    44. it was so much easier with DC's old site to see everything too, i really miss the archival pics. i think you could also order him on the a-body-04 at the time, which would be same as -03 but no extra neck joint, just wrist & ankles.
i'm always glad to see another MP :)

    45. Wow, I just noticed that DC re-released Mephistopheles! I hope they will re-release other discontinued dolls at some point. I'm starting saving for some Youth girls! I do have my faves Dennis and Christina but I don't think I could pass by if both were ever available again :D

I would like to introduce my DC Evangeline AKA {Unk}nown. Modded the eyes to its original state and had neck hole opened to fit 70cm DC boy body. I want him to be tall ominous and very lanky. Still paying off my layaway before I can finish him. His eyes will are custom from @ashuradark on IG.

    47. Would anybody know of any good hybrid hands and feet for DC 70cm bodies?

    48. My a-03 currently has Soom old supergem hands, and feeple60 feet, which are way too small, but I’m waiting to try impldoll feet on her

    49. Part One of this thread seems to be missing. I'm trying to find old information about the discontinued Doll Chateau A-body-01 girls. They would have been sculpts such as Jupiter, Oort, etc. I own one, but I was wondering if anyone out there can suggest clothing that fits her? I need recommendations for everything. :P Thanks so much

    50. New I have Doll Chateau SD body for Migidoll head. I am satisfied. The color fits well, I didn't have to adjust anything.
