Does anyone have an example of a doll with what would appear to be a shaved head? Maybe blushed? Or perhaps something with a fade, where there's hair on the top, but blushed to look like a shave on the side and in the back?
Ive not seen it done to an ABJD, That would be interesting to see. I've seen it done on other dolls with some flocking and elmers glue, its not permanent but on an ABJD it might not hide the cap line.
Yeah, I thought of flocking myself, but it's definitely not a permanent thing, that's for sure. Man, now I wish I had a doll head to try it out on. Maybe when one of my Gretel heads gets here, I'll make it a boy with a shaved head. X3
well, i'm doing another doll with the soft short "velcro" hair I got alot of cool responses to Matthew back when i did it to him (Cept for the occasional hater)....i've taken a chance, and i'm working on doing this with Dresden (Dollzone Jing) next! Pics coming soon!!!
I am planning a doll who has a tough, punky style. I am considering a mohican or short spikey hair. I saw these pictures of Soom's Lupin here and thought what a great idea for giving the impression of clippered hair. What I want is some pictures of your dolls with very short wigs, mohicans or other species of extreme hair. Could you also let me know where you got the wig from or how you achieved the effect. Thanks!
If you'll pardon the exposed chest, this is the best picture I have of the wig. Oko's current wig is quite short, and spiky in a sort of preppy way. It actually started out as this wig, but I undid the braid and then cut/styled it very short.
Victor (A.o.D. Gu) sporting a mowie. It's a strip of long fur fabric, cut into an isoceles triangle, then painted with sticky old acrylics to make it look dyed and gelled and more than a little matted. I stuck it on with double sided toupee tape (Make sure to MSC the headcap really well before doing that!) then brushed grey pastel on the rest of his scalp to give it a bit of regrowth. And good to see more punk dolls on the boards!
Shiwoo had a mohawk at one point: And Yukio (with his crappy old faceup) has a blue fauxhawk/mohawk thing with shaved/short sides:
Not mohican, but Christy's Feyd has very short hair : http://irisshell.blogspot.com/2007/12/pix-of-feyd-from-ago.html
Wow! Thanks for all of these. I love those mohicans and Feyd's hair looks great (I guess it's a trimmed fur wig(?)). I am toying with the idea of doing something like Tim Skold's old hair do (shaved sides and dreads on top, like here http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa122/AntiChristxGhoul/omgosh.jpg (I couldn't find a better picture)). And all this is giving me some great ideas. Any more extreme, short styles, I wonder?
My guy, Aurelius with his green mohawk. This is just a strip of fake fur glued on with some tacky glue.
Have you seen Mire Lapin's absolutely frickin' fantastic short wigs? They're great. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254138
I don't think there's such a thing as a buzz-cut wig (I've looked... if you find one, I want to see!), but I saw someone use some sticky-back black velcro (the soft side) once to make a buzz-cut, and it looked fantastic. Plus, they could put wigs right on top of it.
I have a Lupin and I've painted his hair mould. It's not exactly a mo-hawk but you can see the shaved sides of his hair here. They aren't very clear but it's all I have from the side view.
Show me your very short hair! Here's a post where one DoA member made beautiful short hair for some boys: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254138 Like not a bob or emo shag, SHORT. Typical "boy" or Pixie cut hair, or shorter! If you've done it, or found a wig that works for short hair, please post it here! If you made it yourself please tell us how! Once I have decent clothes for my boy Mathonwy I will be adding his short hair to this post.
As promised, here's Short Wig #1 for Mathonwy my DIM Torudoll Karon. This is about as long as I could still consider calling Short, since it doesn't fall past his ears. I made it by hotglueing false fur to a wig cap made from the toe of a stocking. (He keeps his wigs on nicely by using a silicone wigcap from Denver Doll Emporium and I will be singing their praises forever for those things. Get one!) I wanted to go even shorter, so here's at least one (very crappy) shot of his short brown wig, which I made by building a wig cap of craft felt and then hotglueing merino wool roving closely to it in bits, moving up the head as you would if you were stitching wefting on. Later I will get better pictures of him from several angles wearing this wig. I think it suits his character much better than the poofy grey one.
I believe Mire Lapin makes his wigs from mohair and then trims the sides short. It is also possible to trim good quality pre-made wigs, but one couldn't go as short as a crew cut with them for risk of showing the wig cap underneath. Just for reference, this is as short as I have dared go with a Monique Buttercup and a Monique BJ. Ande you really can't go any shorter on the sides or back of either of these without exposing the wig cap.
I now have more boys to add! Wool fiber Wig by Lorraine's Workshop. (me!) Iplehouse wig trimmed and sideburns added, work by me. Same technique, but the wig has also been turned around front to back. This puts the "point from which the hair is spreading out" at the back of his head.
I wanted to go ahead and share my boy, since he has pretty short hair... It a fur wig by Iplehouse, I think it suits our purposes quite well ^^
Not my doll but my picture: I don't know where this wig came from, but it is simply a fur wig made with very dense short fur. I think it works well, though I wish it came down in front of the ears a little.
Sorry for necro-ing, but would like to bump this thread and find out if anyone has new pictures that they'd like to share? Short or shaved hair on male or female dolls please
This is still a WIP, and sorry for the bad photo. I just saw from looking back in this thread that I was planning this in 2008! Well, I finally got around to it. The head is pastel-blushed and then with pencil strokes added for hair (as you would do eyebrows, basically) and the mohican was made by Mathurine on here from a shaped piece of fake fur and hand-rolled kanekalon dreads. It is attached to his noggin with velcro. I am still wondering whether he needs less fur or more dreads.
Here's an example of my Z (Tedros by Lyn Raftis). She used fibre paste to mold the hair on then painted it.
