Explaination of removing Luts neck mechanism?

Jun 19, 2006

    1. Is there one, i've not been able to find a clear explaination, I've just seen that it can be done, can it be done with the Delfs too?
I like the new body but want to get a old style head.
I am requesting an explaination please, if someone could show pics maybe?
sorry if this is in the wrong section. I didn't think that it was quite a pic request or a general discussion topic.

    2. unfortunately, while i can't answer the question of how the mechanism works, per se, i do know this -- the old style heads do not attach to the new style bodies. there's actually a tutorial about it on the Q&A boards at the Luts site, one for the new heads/bodies and one for the old style. *scrounges for the link*

    3. The new neck mechanism is a cap with a hole in the center that goes over the regular type neck. The s hook is attached to the bottom of the toggle which is located in the middle of the "cap". You can see one curve of the s hook in the picture below.

It's easiest to unstring the doll from the feet up in order to remove the new mechanism. The S hook is pretty much permanently attached to the toggle and the other end is crimped closed around the elastic. I think I had to untie the elastic to get the toggle off.

Once this is removed, the new body is essentially the same as the old body and the older heads can be used in the same way as with the old bodies.

It is more difficult to use the new head with an old body since there is no place on the head cap to insert the s hook , but it can be done through the use of the luts neck pieces to hold the head on and by turning the headcap upside down.

    4. you may need to do some work on the neck and head opening too. Not that I know for sure but it is possible they won't fit together. I know girl heads never used to fit on boy bodies because the neck sizes were different. Now they have one neck size for both girl and boys but how that size translates to the old style heads I don't know.

The twist peice is easy enough to get rid of, but you will need to get an S hook when you order it, they sell them in the tools section at Luts so it's easy enough to get hold of one

    5. thank you, that is exactly the answers i was looking for.

    6. Thanks, julia, that was incredibly helpful ^.^

    7. Thanks so much!

Edit: I cannot count the number of times this thread has come in handy for others. :)

    8. I plan to purchase a limited head from Luts / CP, which is an type 1 head (has hook inside). All my other boys at home have type 2 body (new type body). Is there a way to put a type 1 head on type 2 body?

    9. Okay. So, the type 2 bodies have that neck mechanism you know? Which look like this:

That's just pretty much consisted of that top tab which is linked to the s-hook and strings, and the ring which the tab sits on at the neck. So after you remove the head, loosen the strings from both feet and pull that neck mechanism out.

So now you should be left with a bare neck that's pretty similar to a type 1 body *points down* without those strings:

Now you can either salvage that S-hook and the strings from the tab, or you can just buy new s-hooks and strings from Luts. While you're at it, you'd also want a piece of this:

The "Delf neck part" (it's listed under optional parts on eluts.com) which is a really useful thing for keeping S-hooks trapped at the base of the head.

Now that you have everything, restring your boy following the same direction as Luts's type-1 body instructions:
      http://eluts.com/frontstore/webboar...p=1&bLocation=1&bNumber=2333&sField=&sString=

      Just at this step:

You'd want to slip that neck part doughnut thing below the S-hook with its knots and above the hole where the head sits on the neck. That way you wouldn't necessarily need to hook the s-hook onto the headcap (since it requires a lot of muscle power...almost too much). Instead, you can use a piece of string or rubber band to string the headcap onto the s-hook.

      That's it!! Hope it'd helped ^^;

    10. Thank you so much for your quick reply, it answers my question quite well and does help me a lot to under the difference between two types of bodies. The most important, I make up my mind to purchase that head ^^

      Thank you :D

    11. I bought a Karon head and a type two Delf girl body with the plan of sanding off the breasts to make it a boy. However, the head does not work with the type two neck piece, and I am distressed! D: To remove the neck piece, would I need to restring the entire body? If so, I am not looking forward to this, at all.

Should I just look for a type one girl body and save this one for another head, or...?

Thank you for your time, and I am sorry if this [or anything similar] has been asked before. I did a couple of searches, including "remove delf neck piece", and could not find anything relating to my problem. :c

    12. If it's like how the minifee neckpieces work, you probably don't have to restring entirely. (I don't have a minifee, but I have a minifee neckpiece on another body, so take this with a grain of salt...)

Assuming the feet have S-hooks, can you pull the feet out enough to loop a long length of ribbon through the elastic that goes in each leg, then unhook the feet? The elastic and ribbon can go up in the legs giving you plenty of slack to take off the neckpiece and string on the head with an S-hook (though the elastic will end up a bit tighter than it was before), then you can just pull the elastic out with the ribbons to hook the feet back on. That's how I got slack enough to put the minifee neckpiece on my Dollzone body.

I'd keep the neckpiece or sell it on the marketplace, in case you or someone else needs to attach a type 2 to a regular body. I was thrilled to find a minifee neckpiece!

      Hope that helped?

    13. @ Amy; I.. got the feet off, and.. wound up losing my grip on the elastic while trying to put them back on [after getting frustrated with the neck piece], and so the body is now currently missing a calf. e__e;;; I'm probably better off just restringing the whole thing at this point, but I can't find any needle-nose pliers, so I'm feeling kind of hopeless at the moment. Ah, well. My bad. Thanks for the suggestions!

    14. That's why you have to have a LONG piece of ribbon running through the elastic loop before taking the feet off - even if that happens the leg will still be strung on the ribbon. If you have a shoelace or something you can try using that to pull the elastic back through the calf. Hope you get it back together soon!

    15. Thanks for this thread, I was pulling my hair out trying to work it out tonight!

      :D
