      Brief Background: Walter Diethelm is a young man traveling a rough and often dangerous road. He is a fan of the operatic piece Der Ring des Nibelungen and often names his favorite inanimate objects after characters of the story--most notably, his favorite gun is named after the main heroine. His memory is extremely poor so he keeps a journal to recall all his events of a single day.
