Constructing Conjoined Twins

Aug 18, 2010

    1. So...in the distant future I am going to buy a GloryDoll Mitsuki and a Lucy head...I want to attach the Lucy to the Mitsuki body...and make them conjoined twins. :sweat

HOW in the world would I do that? :?

    2. You would probably have to sand off the neck and make two necks with apoxie. I don't mod, but that's how I would do it.

    3. A bjd's body wouldn't really be wide enough to have two necks with such large heads right next to eachother like that, you'd probably have better luck buying two bodies and conjoining them at the torso.

    4. I know I don't really post that much, but I'm currently planning my next BJD project: a pair of Littlefee conjoined twins. I will probably go with the Flora body, and I've already decided to go for the blonde mohair wigs. There's no problem in creating the characters of the two, but there is, however, a slight problem when it comes on deciding how to construct them.

I would like to have them conjoined at the hip. I know that, normally, they would be conjoined at the arm, and that would be okay, but it would be much easier (and would probably fit the characters better) if I could have them conjoined at the hip. At that point, I could buy them clothes and not have to make every single outfit, could have them sit easier, wouldn't have to worry about removing any legs (much like Daisy & Violet Hilton, if you will), and it would just be so much more simple to achieve.

My question: is there a way that I can achieve this? I know the hip really doesn't open up at the side, but is there a way that I can create a resin mold to keep them together, or a specific way I should help to push the hips together? I don't want them to separate in action, which is the main thing, but I don't want to completely damage the bodies, just in case I can't afford them in the future and need to sell them... I know a few people have conjoined twin BJDs on here, or have seen them, so is there any advice, or good tutorials, that should be passed my way with this?

      Please and thank you. :)

    5. Such a mod could be achieved by using Apoxie sculpt to fasten them together at whatever point you want. However, this is permanent, more or less. If you really want them conjoined without altering the dolls, make them a tight set of joined shorts out of something stiff like a thin canvas or denim, have them wear that under everything else you sew for them, and just don't take it off.

    6. ^^ I've seen the top, and I found the second quite interesting. Thank you so much. :)

That's not a bad idea at all. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

    7. while i havent done a great deal of modding, i would think about making a new pelvic piece to replace both of theirs. Grabbing some apoxiesculpt and just creating a combined hip joint you could string them both through. that way youd still have both original joints you could restring them both back through if you wanted.

    8. Thanks guys. I guess there's no way getting around buying two bodies. Oh well. ^^

    9. I think the question is how you want them conjoined... in RL conjoined twins, they can be joined practically anywhere on the body, can have 2 arms or four, two legs, three legs, four legs... look of photos and see how they fit together, how they stand, what their clothes are like. In pretty much any case, you will be using two doll bodies, because even if the entire torso is joined, giving the impression of a two-headed person, the body will be significantly wider than a normal person's.

Keep in mind that ALL conjoined twins are identical, and birthmarks etc will be a mirror image on the two faces/bodies. Also think about whether you want your dolls to be able to show any skin, as this will change how you are joining them.

    10. wow... theres alot of ways you can go with that idea. as for actually doing it i'm not sure how, but i'm sure you can do it :3

    11. If you wanted to join the two at the hip but manage to keep the two dolls viable for separation I would make an epoxy wedge . Add a large strong magnet to the butt cheek on each twin and then create the "connective material" that would be how they are conjoined out of epoxy and add magnets to it as well. The wedge could fit inside clothing and should allow you to sill use pieces of clothing without having to custom make everything.
