Personality/Backstory:
Sylas is a gentle person by nature and never raises his voice. He speaks calmly and on rare occasion loses his "cool". He's level headed and a practical thinker. He has creative tendencies, however mostly musical. He spends his time writing music, often singing aloud to himself at work or at home. He met Alex in high school and is one year his junior. They had a small nameless band that practiced in Sylas' garage after school, with the permission of his single mother who always encouraged the teens musical endeavors. After high school though, Sylas went to live with his father for a few years while in college so the band was short lived. Sylas got a job as a barista at a small coffee shop in his early twenties. He worked there for three years or so until he got mugged on the way to work one day. He suffered a gun shot wound and several other injuries, the worst of all being his left hand which had to be reconstructed after being crushed. He had to switch it to his strumming hand on the guitar as he never recovered full strength or mobility in his fingers. He uses his thumb more than any of his other fingers, and has learned to do most everyday tasks a little differently but not any less efficient. He had to get a new job though, after trying for weeks to go to work without having a panic attack on the way there. His new job was at "Sunshine Sweets", a bakery and espresso run by a women in her late forties who he learned to later call "Mrs.Sunshine". He is well excepted by his coworkers and loved by customers. Charlotte is one of those regular customers and befriended him quickly because of their similar personalities. After losing his apartment when the building was condemned for being too old and unsuitable for inhabitants, he was forced to look for a new apartment but had a hard time finding something he could afford. Charlotte and River ask him to move in with them, as they had an extra room. At first River felt very uncomfortable with having someone else in his home, but after a while Sylas put him at ease with his calm personality. He has become such a major part of their house hold now that they never want him to leave.
He often chauffeurs River, and is in fact more favorable for the job than even Charlotte. He tends to be more conscious of a blind person's needs and is very considerate. Some people think his relationship with River and Charlotte is a little odd and can't quite decide whether it is "kosher" or not. Sometimes it does appear that he isn't left out of anything that they do and is even brought along on dates. But there are third wheel moments too and he is respectful of them as a couple and makes plans with other friends when he senses they need to be alone. Sylas is most harmonious around Alex and Kirus, but he acts a little perturbed around Noah and even Anne. They are loud and fun and high strung, and he's not sure how to interact with them. Even though he acts annoyed he doesn't dislike them, maybe he just finds them challenging. He is a cheerful person, but on a lower key. When thinking of words to describe him "groovy" and "bohemian" might come to mind. Sylas enjoys classic literature and poetry. His musical tastes lean towards classic rock and date from the 60's to modern. His writing style could be compared to John Mayer. He favors artists like America, The Beatles, Green Day, Vertical Horizon, and Jars of Clay.
