Adding Teeth: Vampire Fangs

Dec 31, 2005

    1. So I plan on getting a Ttori sometime next year and his Character is partally a werewolf he has little fangs that stick out a bit and I was wondering how would I mod them on?

    2. I'd say unless he's going to have huge tusks, try painting them on.

    3. You could add some wee ones with apoxy putty, too.

    4. I made little/medium size tusks on my Namu doll, I made them out of greenstuff (also whitestuff and other miniature putty's are good) and painted themwhite. They look quite cute.
      I hope this isn't out of topic.. ´'_'` But he does have teeth! Though he isn't a BJD. ^^;

    5. At first I thought you meant green stuff as in some random green goo you found lying around XD I had to google it to figure out you meant a brand.

I've never actually sculpted anything onto a BJD before but in almost every post I've seen that mentions making vampire teeth the sculptor said they used apoxy (or however it's spelled).

    6. Hi!

My dolls are vampires and for halloween I made fangs for my girl. Acutally my avatar is one of the fangs pics! I made them out air dry model magic it took awhile to get it how I wanted it but it was not hard!
      This is Darith's picture!

    7. I wouldn't use green stuff for this- it's too hard to mould accurately and the residue can stain resin. I use it a lot for my warhammer and gaming minitures, so I know...

I'd suggest a two part modelling clay that is a similar colour to your doll's skin. That way there's no chance of staining if you remove it to start again.

    8. xDD Hehe, that would be fun, just put some green things on him. *laugh* Ooh, too funny...
I haven't seen apoxy in Finland but I think it might be even better. I just used what was there.

    9. That's a great idea! I only used greenstuff, because I couldn't get anything else that would harden in normal temperatures.

    10. I've never tried this but here's an idea...
take an x-acto knife and chop off a the tiny pointed ends of a round toothpick, paint them white, and glue them into place with minute amounts of white glue...

This way they'd be easily removeable, can be trimmed to size, and wouldn't even damage an existing faceup?
One of these days I'm gonna try this....

      Heh heh...

    11. at the moment i am playing around with mods on an obitsu haruka head, i've already done some pointy ears. i used milliput superfine white for that, and i will be making some fangs too. what size? sd, msd, mini?

i'll start off by mixing the putty and making a load of mini fangs and leaving them to set. after that i'll either attach them to the mouth or (more likely) make some small indentations in the bottom lip and pierce a small hole through, and push the fang in from the back and then secure.
      fangs for the memory!:)

    12. I bought a Notdoll Aletheia head in the marketplace that had been half de-fanged and replaced her fangs.

This pic was with the apoxy (Milliput Super Fine White) still unset and I hadn't cleaned it all up yet. Come to think of it, I don't have a good pic of her new fangs....

The Aletheia headmold has a serious overbite to compensate for the fangs, so it was a really simple mod. For a full-lipped doll you might need to sand out little divits in the lips to make room for the fangs (look at CP vampire doll's lips). Just plopping them on top of the bottom lip looks pretty silly.

    13. I didn't like the fact that i couldn't see the "fangs" that well on my DES Dreaming Vamp head and wanted them pronounced more. So I modded her upper lip with aves apoxie clay and brought it out more. waited for it to cure, and dremels some holes in to it, I then put tooth picks and cut the very ends off as long as I wanted them and glued them into the holes...then i took the apoxie again and covered the toothpics...let them cure.

sorry i don't have any profile pics. but they stick out alot more..

    14. i have seen before where people cut the tips off round toothpicks and glued them into the dolls mouth, then painted them. sounds easier to me than sculpting.

    15. Just thinking about it, and going of some photos I've seen of the vampire variants, I would think you would need to create small depressions in the lower lip, then add the fangs so it does look like the rabbit from "The Holy Grail"

    16. A few years ago I made some removable fangs for my Volks F08 girl out of white Sculpy clay. I molded them and shapped them in the back so they would fit into the crack of her lips. I baked them then put a tiny dab of unbaked sculpy on the back to make them stick and pushed them into her lips.

Here's a pic of what she looked like in them - I would have spaced them out more in looking back at it.

    17. I added fangs to my Lishe. I did it by building up a few layers of varnish mixed with white paint. Id let it dry a bit so I could poke it into a fang shape and then let it dry. I did this before I painted the lips so I wouldnt scratch up the lip paint. I found it easier then the toothpick method which I found dificult to place the toothpicks and found they looked a bit too big. This way it comes off with acetone if you dont want them anymore. Heres a few ancient pics :sweat

I can do vampire teeth if your commissionsing me for a repaint :)

    18. I just had a thought... what about using acrylic gel medium... tint it white and build it up??

    19. That's a really good idea. I have some and it actually dries white if you get the really thick stuff. But would it hurt the Resin?? :?

    20. What about if the head is already made up? I would love for my Adele to have fangs, but I am not sure how to go about doing it...

    21. Well it is possible, but it's hard and I don't think you can order it through a company, only privatecustomizers.
It must be something about modding the lips in shape, then use milliput(?) to be fangs

    22. Bump! I just did a faceup on my dyed doll and forgot to do her fangs! X.x Wondering if I can do the varnish buildup without messing up her face! :O

    23. I did a search and found a few threads but none of them were that clear.

I need to know how to make Vampire Teeth.

Without messing up the face-up or the piercings that are there.

      Painting, Clay, what ever.

      Thanks.

    24. I glued a couple of rice grains to my Bowie's lips last year for his vampire costume. I used a little bit of white glue which came off easily with water later. :)

    25. I know my Jun's teeth mods were done with a sort of putty in white which were sculpted onto his lips, he has bits in his lips cut out where the mod is (so its permenent) He had a full face up on before hand but Naiara on here managed to do it....though I don't think she takes commissions anymore...(not much help but >_<) I know it was quite hard but it is possible...
      ^^^ His teeth mod
She did have to restore his lip paint, I didn't mind as they were a tad light for my taste before anyway, but yeah that might have to be done not sure.

    26. I would totally commission you for some fangs those are amazing! You might be getting a PM from me soon.

    27. For anyone who has done the toothpick method, does it work on MSDs, too?

If not...any suggestions that will work on a MSD?

    28. Giving life to an ancient thread.
I need to hear more about this!

    29. same! would any of you lovely people we willing to do a fang-tutorial?

    30. Great ideas everyone. Now I want a vampire doll

    31. I agree. That would be most helpful.

    32. Bumping for interest ^__^

    33. I'm digging up some old pictures, but I gave my Lu-Wen normal head little fangs. I opened his mouth a bit more (there was already an opening) with a scalpel and used white epoxy clay to sculpt the teeth.

I have serious issues with teeth that are visible when the lips are closed. It makes me think the doll needs braces, which may be cute on its own, but it is not the vampire/werewolf/animal look I'm going for.

I only have poor pictures of it, but I hope they are clear enough.

Usually only visible with uncharming up-nose shots. ;)

    34. some real talent! i might play around with this idea before i redo a face up on one of my dolls, as i hope to be making... a Vampire character of mine in to a dollfie <3 which is going to be a learning curb in a half, but thats what the tutorials are for, thank god!
I would love to see how some of the tooth pick fangs worked out!

    35. Ive just been playing around with making Nu Kwa a single dragon fang... and a single grain of basmati rice, cut to about a third in length, and positioned to the right place on her parted lips with the sharpest point as the tooth point, looks awesome. I won't be glueing it into place until her lips are tinted, but the tooth is small enough not to require sanding her bottom lip, and the colour and shape are exactly what I wanted. It looks like a real ivory fang. My beloved comes up trumps again. :)

For those of you considering using toothpicks, Dolls N Dagger have a tutorial. Obviously, as it's for Barbie, there are some differences - namely the bit where she cuts open the doll's mouth to insert the teeth and squeezes the head to open it - but some of the technique should be adaptable for resin dolls? Or at least Dollfie Dreams and Obitsu.

The advice to place the teeth so that they angle inwards is probably good advice.

    36. Muisje, your mod is awesome, those extra teeth really make a difference.

    37. I want to put in my new Ai-Cebee from Custom House a vampire teeth. Could anyone put a tutorial please? I bought the Tamiya Epoxy Putty but I have no idea how to make it! I could only see the results but... I want to see the process! or the explanation pleaseee ^^

    38. would like to know to my boy bobobie sprite needs fangs an i have no idea how to do it or where to start?

    39. I am trying to make fangs for my Mei....And I just found this post!!
Nice! You give me a lot of ideas...Mine are made withe milliput...I just do one, but it's too long...I want to remove them for doing the make up...do U think it's possible to Stick them with the nail polish like eyelashes?

    40. Here is a pict...what do U think about it?

    41. I had given my Maki vampire fangs, but since his mouth is closed they are very tiny, It's very subtle...

    42. Well if you have a very pouty/full lipped doll you could probably get away with making the fangs a subtractive mod rather than an additive. Looking at my Lu-Wen, it seems more like the fangs were sculpted into his lip rather than stuck on top. I think it gives him a much more natural look where the teeth are actually IN his mouth and press up sexily against his lips rather than fangs that are slapped on top of lips where they look like a vampire with a huge overbite problem.

I was considering modding my open eyed Lu-Wen to have fangs, and my plan of action was taking some needles (for some reason I have an obsession with modding things with needles... it's simply a personal preference I bet you could use an exacto knife or something) and literally just scratching out the triangle shape I want into his lips. Then take a small file/piece of sandpaper and create small indents on his lips outside of where the fangs are to give the impression that the fangs are pushing up against his lips. It should end up looking perfectly natural and you don't have to bother figuring out a way to attach the fangs.

    43. Elysion, I love how you worked in your Maki's teeth. They look super natural <3

    44. I agree :) how did you do them? they look sooo good!!

    45. I just used a very little bit of apoxy, and used a very sharp pin to shape and sculpt. It took me quite a while to get perfect for such a small tooth.

    46. Those afngs look so cute^^ Is that an auto-drying clay? How well goes it stick to the base resin?

    47. Yes Apoxy is an air-drying clay, you mix two parts together and they will dry and harden. It has soem tack to it when you first mix it up, it adheres well to resin, but you may want to sand the resin place to make it stick better.

I didn't feel the need to sand my boys lips since they are stuck in a cravass.

    48. hi!! i was planning to add on my next BJD fangs and tooth: his mouth is colsed and i think that here will be only space for fangs...what material i could use to make them (i want make them little)? i'd like have them 3D and not paint only.

    49. Decided to effectivly bump the thread...

My CP Harang is going in for a new face up soon, and I was wondering how best to get his fangs done! So if there are any examples of Vampire fangs that dont use epoxy, that'd be great to see 83

    50. I would love to hear more about gloss-and-white paint fangs ^^

    51. I would like to know more about this please! I plan to make my new girl a vamp!

    52. The gloss and paint method:

Take some white acrylic paint and gloss medium, mix them together and wait a bit, till it dries slightly.

Use your smallest paint brush and paint the slightly thickened mixture in to your doll's lip crease. (Use the inner corners of your doll's eyes as a guide for a more natural placement of the fangs.)

If your doll has closed lips or you want a more natural looking fangs, make the tips of the fangs only. It will sit a bit into the lower lip, but not too much.

Keep layering the paint onto the place where you want the fangs to be and let it dry every coat. Use a sharp pin to push the fang into a pointed shape.

I may take a few fang-mod commissions, I've had enough practice. I have a girl's head that I've given tiny fangs and it looks ok, I will try to post photos of her soon.

    53. I gave my Dreaming Lishe boy fangs with the 'gloss-and-paint' method, though I used Liquitex matte medium (which is heavier and more workable) to shape the fangs, not gloss medium.

    54. Wow that turned out really great. Your lishe is really lovely also.

    55. Love the Dreaming Lishe...do you let the paint dry well between building it up?
      Thanks!

    56. I concur and am bumping for interest. I'm contemplating giving a future doll fangs and am one of -those- BJD owners who needs explicit instructions before ever attempting to mod her own doll, because I'm terrified of destroying it (or of just sucking that much). :sweat But nicely done everyone who's posted their efforts.

    57. I'm curious if anyone knows how to do this. I want to mod vampire teeth onto my next doll LTF Ante.

    58. There's actually a section for this in the sticky at the top of this part of the forum.

      Adding Vampire Teeth

    59. Hee. As an aside, a vampire Ante sounds delightful. ;)

    60. If and when I get my next doll I am extremely interested in attempting this myself. I like the pouty lips subtraction idea for fangs.
