Well, really now...Dave is kind of hard to parse until you really get to know him. He's the king of deadpan; barely ever even cracks a smile, although he's the master of the WTF face. He had a hilariously abusive childhood thanks to his Bro beating the ever-loving shit out of him...purely to get him ready for the game he was going to play when he was 13. As a result, he's been vastly more mature than his years for quite some time. He's whipcrack-smart, although it really doesn't show most of the time since he's made idiocy into an art form. He's self-sacrificing to a fault; if it means protecting his friends, he can, will, and has laid his life on the line. He actually gave up his first life (because Homestuck) on the chance that it would save everyone he cared about. (It worked, but it hurt like a bitch.)

As the Knight of Time, he's very uncomfortably aware that not one but two sessions' viability rest on his shoulders. Time and Space are the only two aspects absolutely required to play his game, and when you command one of those aspects...well, it can get a little pressure-y. Over time (no pun intended) he's finally come to realize that time travel isn't really all it's cracked up to be, and he doesn't really want to do it unless it's totally necessary to make sure the alpha timeline keeps going the way it's supposed to. Death doesn't faze him at all, since he's died so many times he's lost count at this point, but deep down he really isn't sure he wants to be immortal. Immortality means eventually losing a lot of the people closest to him to old age and death, and the idea of being alone is a crushing one. Yes, he has his very closest friends, but there are other people important to him that he doesn't want to lose. So what's a time god to do?

(Seriously, though. I will not even begin to TRY to describe Dave's background, because Homestuck is a beast on wheels and if I tried to sum it up any better than I did, it'd be a ten-page document in tiny font, single-spaced. But Dave is based directly on Dave Strider from Homestuck. It is a strangely addictive canon. It is also monstrously, unbelievably, soul-suckingly, brain-numbingly ENORMOUS. But that is okay. Because reasons.)
